Olly:
Ha. I knew I would find you here.
The afternoon classes had ended half an hour ago, but Tiana Petrova-Hammond was still kicking the punching bag. Olly, already showered and changed back in his civil clothes, walked toward the Gold Star, noticing (it was hard not to) that she was even more intense in her strikes.
Olly:
That bag must really be a dick.. What did it do to you? Why are you trying to kill it?
Tiana recognized Olly’s appearance with nothing but a side glance, continuing to kick at the bag over...and over...and over. Each thud echoed in the near empty gym, the sound of the chain holding it sounding like a wind chime. He hadn’t left, which she wasn’t sure if it was annoying or not, the day hadn’t exactly brought the best out of her.
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
There are just certain people who bring out the worst in me. They dig under my skin, try my patience…
She kicked at the bag one final time, sending it swinging a good distance. She slid to the floor with a grunt.
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
I’m over it.
Olly:
You’re talking about the Princess, right? I saw your argument early today.
Oliver picked up a water bottle from the floor and handed it to Tiana. He then sat down on the floor, next to Tiana. With a light chuckle he said.
Olly:
She has quite the personality, doesn’t she?
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
First… Don’t call her “Princess” in front of me, you might get a foot to the face.
She took the bottle, sitting it between her legs.
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
Second… I don’t know, her personality is brat. That’s all I got. I never really dealt with people like her once I got taken in by the Hammond’s, so I kinda forgot how it goes.
She held up the bottle and squirted the water into her mouth, then over the top of her head.
Olly:
She may be a brat, but she knows what she wants and how to get it.
Olly, who seemed to have grown closer to Faith in the past weeks and had the chance to know her better than almost anyone else in the Academy was quick to reply.
Olly:
Having a thick skin and some attitude can really come in handy in this world, and you know it. It’s a cut-throat business, there’s not really much room for friends and feelings.
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
Then the business needs to change.
She spoke very matter-of-factly. She stood up from the floor slowly, turning her attention back to the heavy bag, throwing a few slow combos at it.
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
I get it, Olly. You’re cool with her and all that, you can make excuses for her. I’ll even do my best to work with her, because I will do my best to help carry this team, but I’m not going to like her and how she acts because “that’s just how it is”. That doesn’t work for me.
Olly:
You abused that poor bag enough, Tiana.
Olly stepped dangerously close to the heavy bag, so close that Tiana had to stop or she could have hit him instead. She didn’t seem too pleased that he interrupted her, but then he turned around and picked up the focus mitts instead. He clapped them together, holding them in front of him.
Olly:
I’m not asking you to be her friend or to get to like her. Hell, you two are Team Strike, if you can’t work together, that’s all the better for us.
Assuming a guard stance, he began moving around Tiana, testing her reflexes with some quick jabs the Gold Star easily dodged.
Olly:
I’m just making some conversation, that’s all. And helping you clearing your mind and blowing off some steam..
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
You really want to get kicked in the face, huh? Because this is how you get kicked in the face.
Tiana kept dodging and countering, not putting much effort in due to reaching her exhaustion point.
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
Get better friends, Olly. You’re not a trash bag.
Olly:
I don’t know, a lot of people would disagree with you.
He said with a slight shrug of his shoulders. He noticed that Tiana seemed tired, but he kept pushing her.
Olly:
Not that I care about what they think anyway. Something else the Princess and I have in common...
Tiana’s eyes narrowed as she faked a roundhouse, only to drop her leg and kick Olly in the stomach with a push kick. She watched him stumble backwards and started laughing.
Tiana Petrova-Hammond:
Look, I said you “might” get kicked in the face, but I settled for the stomach. You’re welcome.
Tiana turned around and headed back to the locker room, leaving Olly crouched down trying to catch his breath. Raising his head, he looked at her leaving and started laughing.

Come as you are, as you were

Take a rest as a friend

"Come As You Are" by Nirvana plays as a door opens and closes. We're inside the Gym, filled with exercise equipment, surrounding the ring. We're at ringside where the highly anticipated Triple Threat Match between Team Strike's The Kid, and Team Ali's Olly and the self proclaimed Most Valuable Player Dez Ali will take place. While tensions between the three been building between the three since the premiere episode of The Academy, a poll earlier in the week showed fans and viewers didn't expect the match to go down so soon, however the boiling point came on last week's Episode 4 with Olly and Dez wreaking havoc and costing Faith Savell of Team Strike the match. This didn't sit well with The Kid who's already hate for Olly made things worst. So it has come down to one match, three guys, battling it out for the alpha male position of The Academy. Producers believe, The Academy Episode 5 is expected to draw it's highest rating since the Series Premiere and this is thanks to the three young males who's egos and don't give a fuck attitude collide in the Triple Threat Match. We see a shirtless Dez Ali (wearing a black Nike sweat pants and black & gray Nike sneakers) sporting his black and gold Beats which is blasting Nirvana's hit "Come As You Are" makes his way to the ring. He walks around the ring slowly touching the edge of the canvas, studying it taking it in. As he comes full circle of the squared ring, the young twenty year old takes a seat at ring side and simply stares into the ring as Nirvana continues to blast on his Beats. Moments later Michael Ali walks up from behind his son, who haven't seen or heard him enter thanks to the Beats. Michael places his hand on the left shoulder of Dez, who immediately takes off his Beats and looks back to see his father behind him.
Dez Ali:
Hey dad!
Michael Ali:
You okay?
Dez Ali:
Yeah I'm good. Just here, ......taking it in, before it happens.
Michael Ali:
Yeah the big Triple Threat Match. You going to have a lot of eyes on you son.
Dez Ali:
I know. I know I haven't the greatest son since all this started. It um, got any advice as the leader of Team Ali.
Michael Ali:
You have a thirty-three percent chance of losing this match. A Triple Threat Match gives you a disadvantage of sixty-six percent. No matter how great you are or how great you think you are, the best of the best have seen defeat in Triple Threat Matches. The question is how will you deal with such a high scale loss to the likes of The Kid or Olly?
Dez simply nods his head as if he understands what his father is trying to tell him.
Dez Ali:
What about the one percent chance?
Michael Ali:
Sorry?!
Dez Ali:
You said I have a thirty three percent chance of victory, basically so does Olly and The Kid. What about the one percent?
Michael smiles, clearly proud of his son.
Michael Ali:
That's why I picked you, number one.
The fifty year old team leader (sporting a black Team Ali t-shirt, blue jeans and UA sneake gets up from his seat behind Dez Ali.
Michael Ali:
That one percent makes the difference of who wins and who loses.
He taps Dez on his shoulder.
Michael Ali:
So you going to just sit there and stare or are you hitting the machines?
The father and son make their way to a bench, where sits and lays down, while his father piles on the weights on the bars. Michael Ali stands by to spot his son who is about to push 200 pounds.

The Courtyard
November 12, 2020
4:35 PM
Trinity Thompson was sitting on a bench near the basketball field in the Academy’s courtyard. The eighteen years old was talking on the phone, much like the last time, her dad was on the other end of the line.
Trinity Thompson:
Haha, no! Don’t be silly!
She let out a giggle, clearly amused by something her father said. But that look of pure joy that was illuminating her face quickly subsided, fading to a bleak expression.
Trinity Thompson:
Oh no, already?
This time a long sigh followed her words. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Millie Smith, fellow team member and designated partner for this Friday’s title defense. The shy girl had a basketball in her hand, looking like she wanted to shoot some hoops (she probably got that from Bree). But seeing Trinity there and possibly having unintentionally eavesdropped the conversation caused her to freeze on the spot, not wanting to disturb Thompson.
Trinity Thompson:
No, not yet.. It’s harder than I thought it’d be. Yes, I promise.. Love you da.
Motioning with her hand for Millie to come over, Trinity stared melancholically at the screen of her phone a little longer, regretting the fact that the conversation with her father had to be cut so soon. Millie started by dragging her feet a little, anxious about what her tag team partner would say to her, but eventually she got her legs in gear to walk over normally. She hoped that it had gone unnoticed.
Millie Smith:
Hey...hey. Is everything
Millie shut her eyes a little, silently huffing at herself for not being able to think of another word that didn't rhyme, but had squat.
Millie Smith:
Ok?
Trinity Thompson:
Uh? Oh yes, of course…
Trinity flashed a smile at the blonde girl, putting the phone back in her pocket.
Trinity Thompson:
I was just talking to my dad, is all. I miss him..
The last words came out as a whisper, barely audible.
Trinity Thompson:
Anyway, what’s up with you?
She exclaimed with a wide smile, in stark contrast to the gloomy expression she had a moment ago. An obvious attempt to change the subject and tone of the conversation from the uneasiness her personal matters caused to something more light and cheerful.
Millie Smith:
A little nervous about the tag team match.
Millie said while she tried to tuck the ball under her arm like she'd seen Bree do so many times when she was younger.
Millie Smith:
And the next class.
She nervously chuckled and tried to play it off with a small smile of her own. Millie then offered the ball to Trinity.
Millie Smith:
Do you want to shoot some?
Trinity looked at the ball, then back at Millie.
Trinity Thompson:
I’m not really good at it but maybe you can teach me.
Taking the ball from Millie, Trinity started dribbling as they headed to the court.
Trinity Thompson:
Yeah, no kidding we’re gonna have our work cut out for us tomorrow… Faith may be a bit of a bitch but she’s really good. And Tiana… Well, she’s the Gold Star, I guess that says it all…
Millie headed with Trinity and kept her arms to her sides a little.
Millie Smith:
Eep..
She muttered about the talented opponents they've got to face off against.
Millie Smith:
Do you think we can win, realistically?
As Millie was speaking, Trinity shot the ball, completely missing the target.
Trinity Thompson:
Crap...
She blurted out, chasing the ball that was bouncing away from them.
Trinity Thompson:
Well, it's a tag team match, and they don't seem to really get along…
Millie Smith:
A strange bedfellows situation.
Millie tried to show off a little of her studying up. She caught the ball and moved to the left of the key, bounced the ball twice and looked at the board behind the basket.
Millie Smith:
My sister, Bree, taught me to aim for the square on the board. You'll have a better chance of it going in.
She took aim and hit the board gently. It didn't go straight in because Millie was slightly off, but it did bounce off the rim, then the other side of the rim before eventually going in. Millie was surprised by it nonetheless.
Millie Smith:
It went in.
Trinity Thompson:
Nice shot!
She congratulated her teammate, grabbing hold of the ball and moved in position.
Trinity Thompson:
If they can't put their differences aside, we have a good chance.
Following Millie's instructions, Trinity aimed at the board and shot. She used too much strength though, and the ball bounced off the board and onto the floor again, rolling toward where Millie was.
Trinity Thompson:
Damnit!
Millie flinched a little at the bounce, before she sidestepped to catch the ball in both her hands. Millie then bounced the ball back to her teammate to let her have another shot.
Millie Smith:
We're going to be on the same page. Maybe we can do some work after class on a double team move like my sisters have with their partners?
Millie then glanced at the basket again and back to Trinity.
Trinity Thompson:
That's a very good idea!
She said, focusing back on the board and getting ready for the shot. SHe took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again, she looked up at the basket and shot. This time she not only hit the board, but the ball went straight in.
Trinity Thompson:
Yes! I did it!
Even Millie was impressed and smiled proudly at her partner. She caught the ball after it's second bounce and held it against her waist.
Millie Smith:
You're a very quick learner.
Millie said with a bundle of hope and optimism that she'd be able to apply that to their title match tomorrow.
Millie Smith:
Would you like to go again?
Trinity Thompson:
It's your turn now!
Trinity took a step back, letting Millie take her shot.
Trinity Thompson:
Let's make a wager.. First to miss it, buy ice cream, deal?
She said, knowing Millie's shyness and hoping that this would help them bond. Something they would definitely need tomorrow and in the future
Millie caught the ball and hesitated to answer. She nodded quickly to accept the wager, and then shot the ball softly. It hit the board and caught the bottom of the rim, the part that fixes the net to the board. It fliesd up slightly and just grazes the front part of the rim on its way into the basket.
Millie Smith:
What's your favourite flavour?
Millie asked while handing the ball off to Trinity. Millie then scuffled backwards so her partner had room and choice from where to shoot from.
Trinity positioned herself right in front of the basket, better not push her beginner's luck!
Trinity Thompson:
I like to try out new flavors, but if I had to pick one... Probably Cherry & Chocolate.
Looking intensely at her target, she shot again. It was a bit too short, but after hitting the front part of the rim, it rolled right in.
Trinity Thompson:
Whew, that was close... You're up, Millie!
Millie Smith:
Good shot.
Millie collected the ball and decided to take a normal free throw. She headed right to the line then stepped maybe half an inch back to avoid stepping over the line. She hurled the ball up and it landed directly in the dreaded gap between the board and the rim, wedging in their tight. Millie dared not turn. She closed her eyes and wished right now she could just disappear or turn invisible because she got the ball stuck.
Trinity Thompson:
Uh oh, looks like we have a problem...
Turning to Millie, she noticed how badly she took it. She stepped in front of the younger Smith and placed a hand on her shoulder.
Trinity Thompson:
We just need to find a long cane or something and we can take it down.
She said to comfort her, realizing that they were both too short to reach it even with a jump.
Trinity Thompson:
Or we can ask one of the boys... But we're gonna do that AFTER the ice cream. You haven't told me what your favorite flavor is yet, by the way…
Millie's face grew a little redder before she finally answered her partner.
Millie Smith:
I like strawberry.
She said before turning to Trinity and plucked up the courage to ask.
Millie Smith:
We don't have to say I got the ball stuck if a boy helps?
Trinity Thompson:
Nah, we'll say it was my fault.
She said with a slight shrug of her shoulders.
Trinity Thompson:
Let's go get that ice cream now, teamie!
Millie smiled almost automatically when she heard that, very reminiscent to hearing her cousin Honey when she hung around with her, and Millie put some trust in her teamie.
Millie Smith:
Can we go in my Mystery Machine?
Trinity Thompson:
I was hoping you'd ask!
She replied with enthusiasm as they both walked away.
