Victoria Salinas finds herself at a familiar place… though one she hasn’t been at in almost a decade. Looking up at a banner that says “Elite Seattle Wrestling”, she’s in awe of the fact that one of the local Seattle high schools that she wrestled at during her time at the Seattle Wrestling Academy is still very fit and very hungry for local Independent wrestling long after she went mainstream. She’s behind the curtains overlooking the construction of a wrestling ring for ESW’s show that evening.
Victoria: It’s so surreal to be back here…
Surreal as it may be, the happy memories come flooding back to the Montana native who went from shy, introverted rookie to a five time world champion. But little does she know that this experience is about to be more surreal…
Voice: Give me a V…
Voice 2: Give me an I…
Victoria just smirks and laughs as she knows those voices. She turns toward two men that are approaching her.
Victoria: After all these years, that’s how you greet me?
Nick and Dave, the two men she worked with at the start of her Indy career, reach her and she greets them both with a quick embrace.
Nick: Of course!
Dave: You were the official Blue Chippers cheerleader!
Victoria: I know… Mr. Riley and his ideas!
Nick: It did bring a different side out of you!
Victoria: True… but that’s not something I’d ever want to do again.
Dave: I heard about the Academy though. Hey, I don’t blame you at all. You’ve been through some tough times.
Nick: Yeah, no hard feelings. We both know what it’s like.
Victoria: Really?
Dave: Yeah! Nick and I are the head bookers and producers of ESW now! We figured this was something we could do for ourselves. After all… we weren’t able to make the mainstream no matter how hard we tried… then we got too old but… blessing in disguise.
Nick: We actually like this so much better than actually being in the ring. But… at least ONE of us made it mainstream, right cheerleader?
Victoria rolls her eyes and laughs.
Victoria: Riiiight… great times back then though. Gosh, everything seems so simple compared to now. But seriously, I couldn’t have made it without you guys. You two helped me step out of my comfort zone and helped me come out of my shell a little bit… so I do owe you both thanks for that.
Nick: Maybe if you thanked us then, we wouldn’t have put you through a table…
Dave: I know, right?
The three exchange a laugh.
Victoria: Oh goodness… I was so sad when they broke us up…
FLASHBACK: April 10, 2008
Victoria: B-S! B-S! That’s what you are! You’re both cowards that will never go far!!!
The crowd behind a 20-year-old Victoria cheers this dorky rhyme toward the Blue Chippers opponents as a match between them and a team named The Redball Jets is in progress. The referee has just been knocked down.
Crowd: J-E-T-S SUCK SUCK SUCK!
Victoria: HEY! Think of the children! That’s not nice!
Crowd: F-U-C-K JETS JETS JETS!
Victoria: Oh gosh…
Victoria sees Dave get thrown out of the ring in her direction. Nick is in trouble as part of a double team and Victoria slides in and delivers a low blow to one of the Jets. There’s a stumble that leads to Nick falling to the mat. The other Redball Jet turns toward her and she greets him with a smile to confuse him.
Victoria: F-U-C-K JETS JETS JETS!
The crowd erupts with a huge cheer as the Redball Jet gets pissed off.
Victoria: Aw! Have some spirit!
She waves a pom-pom in his face before she gets grabbed by the throat. Nick saves her with a suplex from behind and she quickly reaches into her top to pull out a set of brass knuckles that she quickly hides in one of her pom-poms. Dave drags the first Jet out of the ring to begin a brawl while Nick holds up the second Jet.
Dave: GET HIM!
Victoria: The referee is not in place… to see me punch you in the face!
Victoria confidently goes for a punch with the pom-pom covered brass knuckles but the Jet escapes and she reacts with shock as she accidentally clocks Dave in the face instead. She takes a hard spear as the referee starts to recover. Rolling away, she doesn’t see the other Jet win the fight against Nick outside the ring before they double powerbomb Dave and ultimately win the match. Deep down, she feels horribly sad having accidentally cost her boys the match.
Ring Announcer: Here are your winners… the REDBALL JETS!
Holding onto her stomach, she feels Nick grabbing her from behind and gently pulling her up. The Redball Jets leave and once Dave recovers, she’s instantly pleading with him and saying sorry.
Victoria: It was an accident… I’m so sorry…
Nick and Dave look at her.
Victoria: I didn’t mean to…
Nick: We’re sorry too…
Victoria: Huh?
Nick spears Victoria to the mat and the crowd hates this. Dave and Nick stomp her completely beating her all around the ring before they throw her out of it. They reach under the ring and pull out a table, setting it up and then they pick up Victoria and double powerbomb her right through the table.
Half and hour later…
Victoria is wincing in pain with her stomach taped and bandaged. Shawn Riley walks in seeing her look really uncomfortable and saddened.
Mr. Riley: Are you alright?
Victoria: No…
Mr. Riley: As you’ve probably guessed, you’re not working with the Blue Chippers anymore.
Victoria: I’m done for, aren’t I?
Mr. Riley sighs with annoyance.
Mr. Riley: Why must you always assume the worst? Good lord! You’re being split from them not because you’re getting cut… but because quite frankly, you don’t need them anymore. You’ve proven both in training and on local television that you can hold your own so… from this moment forward, you’re going to be a singles competitor.
Victoria: Oh… well… alright!
Mr. Riley: And… no more cheerleader!
Victoria’s eyes light up.
Victoria: Oh thank god…
Mr. Riley: I figured you’d like that. Your wrestling abilities have come a long way… but now’s the time for you to develop a stage presence. It’s up to you to determine how you’re going to stand out. Wrestling abilities alone won’t get you all the way no matter how good you are. So… try to develop a bit of a character for yourself. I know it’s going to be tough for someone of your personality… but you’re smart… you’ll figure it out…
Mr. Riley leaves the trainer’s room. Victoria sits by… stunned by the news she just got but nevertheless thrilled that she’s going to be focusing on purely wrestling going forward…
One month later…
Victoria is sporting new wrestling gear as she stands in front of a camera.
Victoria: For months… those two idiots… they held ME back… they thought it was so cute to put me in a cheerleader outfit and sexualize me every step of the way thinking they could just get away with it! Well, I’ve had it! I’m done being taken advantage of so… I’d like to see Nick and Dave find any random SLUT in the locker room… and I’ll find a tag team that wants to fight… and we’ll settle this in a mixed tag team match, how about that, huh? You two are going to rue the day that you decided to dump me like a pile of trash and when it’s all said and done… the only thing that’s going to be BLUE about you two will be your BALLS, BITCHES!
Crowd: OOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Victoria: Because I’m not some preppy, naive cheerleader… I’m the DEFINITION of intensity… and until I get my revenge… I’m going to be your worst nightmare!
Victoria walks away from the camera to big cheers from the audience not realizing Mr. Riley has a wide-eyed, but happy look on his face with what he just heard.
Mr. Riley: Damn… she’s got it!
October 2008
A frustrated Victoria is again in front of the camera with Trinity Williams, her old roommate, who by this point is an interviewer for ESW.
Trinity: Vicky… you tried SO hard to become ESW women’s champion against MY GIRL Sexy Lexy but you JUST fell short… how does it feel to know that you’ll NEVER be a star?
Victoria: You’re so full of shit!
Trinity: Aw… is Icky Vicky going to be a sore loser now?
Victoria slaps Trinity across the face.
Victoria: You’re one to talk about me never being a star! At least I didn’t flunk the academy!
Victoria snaps her fingers and gives Trinity the “hand to the face” signal before walking away.
January 2009
Off camera, Victoria is in the middle of a conversation with Mr. Holliday, the head trainer of the Seattle Wrestling Academy.
Mr. Holliday: You’re worrying me…
Victoria: Why am I worrying you? Is there something I’m doing wrong?
Mr. Holliday: No… you’re doing everything right. You’ve become one of the best wrestlers in ESW man or woman in just a short amount of time. My old stomping grounds at Pacific Northwest Wrestling… they want you and I have agreed to send you there. Congratulations, Victoria. You’re going regional. You’re expanding your horizons past Seattle and you’ll be wrestling across the states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho as well as British Columbia!
Victoria’s eyes light up knowing she’s moving up the ladder.
Mr. Holliday: Think of it as going from AA baseball to AAA… you know?
March 1, 2009
PNW Announcer: This is amazing!!!
Victoria is experiencing joy that she has never had before in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada… the thrill of the fans chanting her name as she clutches a championship belt.
PNW Color Commentator: In just 10 weeks… Victoria Salinas is the PNW Women’s Champion! She’s lived up to her reputation as a great wrestler and then some!
Victoria (voice over): For seven months… all across the Pacific northwest, I defended that championship against every woman that stood up to me. The crowds I was wrestling in front of were getting bigger, the cheers for me were getting louder, my reputation was spreading and suddenly, I was finding myself on headlining posters, I found myself on the splash page of PNW’s website, I was even given a feature in the Seattle PI and back home in Montana. My shyness and introvertedness was still a problem… my stage presence was still in progress… but my technical abilities got better, and better, and better… and I was beginning to develop an aerial attack that was drawing so much attention.
October 20, 2009
Bellingham, Washington.
PNW Ring Announcer: Your winner… and NEW PNW Women’s Champion… Rhonda Wellington!
Victoria rolls out of the ring feeling gutted that she just lost the only championship she’d ever hold in the Independent scene. She manages to hold back the tears as she leaves to the backstage area while the new champion celebrates. Once she gets through the curtains, she lets out a sigh and allowing the disappointment to fuel her. Mr. Holliday is right there with her.
Mr. Holliday: Hey, you’ll get better from this. I promise you.
Victoria: I feel like I let you down…
Mr. Holliday: No… you made me proud! Every time you defended that title, you showed the true potential of a champion. You’ll bounce back from this and I know you’ve got what it takes to be PNW Women’s Champion again.
Voice: Excuse me… pardon my interruption…
Mr. Holliday and Victoria turn to see a woman with a clipboard in her hands.
Woman: Are you Victoria Salinas?
Victoria: Yeah…
The woman extends her hand and Victoria shakes it.
Woman: I’m Candice… I work with Pure Revolutionary Wrestling…
Victoria’s eyes widen in surprise.
Candice: We’re one of the top wrestling companies in the world! We’re going to do our first tour of Europe in a few weeks and I wanted to talk to you about possibly joining us for that and beyond. I’ve seen you apply your craft and… you’d be a tremendous addition to our roster. Get yourself cleaned up and we can have ourselves a chat at this address! See you in two hours!
Candice hands Victoria a business card before turning and leaving. She experiences a star struck moment knowing exactly what this means.
Victoria: Mr. Holliday…
Mr. Holliday: ...I’m at a loss for words. You realize you’re the first student of mine to ever get this far, right?
Victoria: Something tells me… I’m not getting that rematch for the PNW Women’s title anytime soon…
Victoria remains still in shock realizing her career is really getting serious.
Back to the present day…
Victoria: Really, you two don’t realize how much you did for me. Who know that being put through a table would start a domino effect, huh?
Victoria smiles as she finishes recounting and discussing said past times.
Dave: It must have been the table smash heard round the world…
Nick: Really though… we’re honored to have been part of your journey and we’re happy for you for how far you’ve come and how much you’ve grown.
Dave: Yeah, ditto from me. If you ever want to be part of our show, don’t be afraid to hit us up!
Victoria: I’ll definitely consider that. Damn… it’s hard to believe that the school is closed for good tomorrow. But… this trip to the past… I know it’s going to serve me well for the future.
Victoria exchanges one last embrace with Nick and Dave before she leaves the high school hosting that night’s ESW show… all while preparing to say goodbye to the Seattle Wrestling Academy forever the following day.
Flashback.
October 20, 2009
Candice: Like I’ve been telling you…
Candice and Victoria are sitting over a dinner at a diner in Bellingham, Washington.
Candice: You have phenomenal in-ring potential. You’re one of the best 21-year-olds I’ve ever seen from a technical wrestling standpoint with the amount of experience that you have over just a couple of years and change.
Victoria: Thanks… I’m surprised to hear that.
Candice: Don’t be… you should give yourself so much more credit. It’s true that your stage presence is a bit rough around the edges and you’ve got a skittish, shy, nervous personality… and it’s something you HAVE to work on at the next level… but you’ve got PHENOMENAL upside… and I’m going to make an $80,000 gamble that you’re going to capitalize on it.
Candice pulls out a folded piece of paper and a pen and slides it across the table to Victoria.
Victoria: Um… what’s this?
Candice: The ticket to your dreams coming true, Victoria… a one year contract, 80 grand, title bonuses and incentives included… to be a part of Pure Revolutionary Wrestling.
Victoria’s jaw drops in shock… but also joy.
Candice: Sign on the dotted line and you’re going mainstream, young lady!
Victoria unfolds the contract and looks at all the fine print… her eyes filling up with tears of joy!
Victoria: Thank you! You really have no idea how much this means to me!
Victoria doesn’t hesitate at all, signing her name on the dotted line through the tears of joy flowing down her face thus beginning her journey on the global stage…
