In the days after her comeback victory over Charlie Webster, Victoria Salinas finds herself back home in Edmonton. With some downtime, she’s going through a closet that is in her basement finding a small bit of excess stuff lying on a pool table in boxes. Curious, Victoria walks over to it and looks through one of the boxes and she raises her eyebrows once she spots a familiar item. This surprise fades to sadness as she lets out a sigh.
Victoria: Oh no…
She’s not happy to see a picture of herself and her ex on the night that she won her fourth of five world championships. Digging through the box, she sees related items ranging from old skateboarding pads to an old video game controller. Sighing again, she’s coming to realize, as she goes through the second and third box, that these items are reminders of her ex. The most close to home thing that she finds in these boxes is her old engagement ring. Glancing at the current engagement ring from Gavin on her ring finger, she’s definitely feeling awkward especially when she’s staring right at unused wedding invitations and photos from said wedding day. Suddenly, she feels this sickening sensation in her stomach. She’s beginning to gag and choke a bit and right away, she makes a beeline for a garbage can nearby. She drops to her knees as quick as she can, vomiting in the garbage can. Taking a few deep breaths as she slowly stands up, she shakes her head, walks back to the table, grabs one of the boxes and carries it up the stairs off of pure adrenaline, into the kitchen.
Victoria: Okay, obviously that’s all going out.
Taking another deep breath, Victoria gives herself a break as she quickly serves herself and drinks a glass of water.
Victoria: Just what I needed… bad flashbacks…
Victoria shakes her head as she grabs the box she brought up from the basement and walks outside to her front porch where her dumpster is waiting. Putting down the box, she opens the dumpster, picks up the box again, takes one last look at the old skate pads and video game controller among other items and quickly dumps everything in the box in the dumpster.
Victoria: One down, two to go…
Voice: Need a hand?
Victoria turns around to see a familiar brunette woman standing in front of her with a smile on her face.
Victoria: Allison!!!
Victoria greets Allison Mayberry, her former GM in GCW and one of her longest tenured friends in wrestling, with a hug that Allison returns right back.
Allison: I see you’re finally letting it go, huh?
Victoria: What are you even doing here?
Allison: Well, I heard about a recent career choice you made regarding… “vainglorious”...
Victoria: Yes… I’m going to embrace that part of me again. When I was with my ex, I suppressed it for SO long! I THOUGHT it was the right thing, and it seemed to be with the way my career was going at that time but… all it did was keep the confident part of me locked away in a corner and it just slowly… died. With him, I was living a lie. I sacrificed my happiness, my confidence… for someone I ultimately realized I never loved at all. For so long, it killed me. I forced myself to be with him for far too long… and where did it get me? It not only sunk my confidence and my self-esteem… it also brought down my career.
Allison: I’m glad that you’re not holding back anymore, Vicky. The fact that you were able to win your 4th and 5th world championships during this time is a testament to your strength…
Victoria: I’m so confused by how I was able to pull that off despite all that…
Allison: Simple. You had enough “vainglorious” in you to be able to achieve those. Your confidence was still there. Once that 5th reign ended though… you had nothing to distract you from the relationship you had long not wanted anymore. By the time you started your feud with Myra Lynwood in GCW, it was already eating at you.
Victoria: I never regretted leaving him. What I regretted was how I…
Allison: Vicky… you shouldn’t. HOW you left him… yeah, it sucks to hurt someone else’s feelings… but you couldn’t live that lie anymore.
Victoria: It got to a point where I was vomiting after I kissed him… hell, just looking at some reminders of that whole thing… I actually threw up a few minutes ago.
Allison: See what I mean?
Victoria nods.
Allison: Say what you will about your parents objecting and protesting the whole thing by not going to the wedding at all… but when parents know, they know. Anyway… any more relics of the past you need to throw out?
Victoria: Yeah, I have two more boxes down in the basement. Want to take one?
Allison: Sure!
Victoria and Allison walk back inside Victoria’s home and quickly make their journey down to the basement. Allison grabs the second box and Victoria grabs the third. They don’t take long to get to the dumpster. Allison dumps the contents of the second box inside as Victoria brings in the third box which consists of all of her wedding related stuff. She hesitates a bit as she takes one last look at the toxic relics of the past that serves as a reminder of something she never wanted. Looking in the dumpster, she finds all the pictures of her ex that she still had, his face and eyes in those pictures glaring at her.
Allison: Let it go, Vicky. Let it go. He’s not relevant anymore.
With some anger, Victoria dumps all of the old wedding stuff in the dumpster.
Victoria: Shut the basement for me, will you?
Allison: Sure!
Allison goes back inside the house to oblige, closing the door behind her. Victoria meanwhile, takes one last look at what she just threw away.
Victoria: May the worst mistake I ever made in my wrestling career be gone forever. I’m sorry that I hurt you, but I’m not sorry that I left you and I never will be. I knew you weren’t for me at least two and a half years before I walked away… and I sacrificed so much of my time and my career because I didn’t want to hurt your feelings. After all this time I’m letting go of you… because you don’t deserve to be relevant in my life and career anymore! This will be the last time I ever think or speak of you… because from now on? I’m doing ME again… just as I know I am!
Allison: Look what I found, Vicky!
Victoria is surprised to see Allison coming out of the house with a skateboard.
Allison: Good thing I made sure to take one last look at the basement!
Victoria chuckles.
Victoria: Thanks.
Allison: Here…
Allison hands Victoria the skateboard.
Allison: You do the honors.
Victoria briefly looks at the bottom of the skateboard where she sees the autograph of her ex on it and then with all the adrenaline within her, she lifts up the skateboard and takes a hard swing at the edge of the dumpster, nailing the midway point of the board right on it! Half of the board goes into the dumpster and Victoria wastes no time chucking the other half in before she slams the dumpster shut. Taking a deep breath, Victoria can feel whatever negative feelings of that forsaken relationship melt off of her shoulders. The fact that she’s smiling indicates she’s feeling happy and relieved.
Victoria: I don’t know why that felt so good…
Allison: It was something you needed to do… and I bet all of that shit he was talking about you on social media for months after the fact made THIS feel even better. Funny... he was so nice to you when you were together, but once you two split, he showed you the asshole he really was.
Victoria: Allison?
Allison: Yeah?
Victoria: From this moment on… let’s never speak of him again. Let’s talk about why you’re here… is there something you want to talk about?
Allison: Yes, actually! Let’s talk about it inside. I know you’re bringing “vainglorious” back and I think this creates a PERFECT opportunity for you to be top-level again…
Victoria: What do you have in mind?
Allison: Well…
Allison lets out a confident smile as she and Victoria walk back inside the house. For Victoria, this marks the moment where she finally let go of something and someone in her career she had long been ashamed of… and finally she can look ahead to the future no longer burdened by what she considers the worst mistake of her career. She can look forward to being at her best and being a champion again and most importantly, on a professional and personal level, she can look forward to a hell of a bright future… a future that is unquestionably…
...vainglorious!
