It’s another engagement party for Victoria although this time around, the mood is much happier. This party isn’t taking place at a skatepark, but at a private suite in downtown Seattle located near the Space Needle. Victoria is definitely a lot happier as she and Julia Rivera exchange a hug.
Julia: Congratulations!
Victoria: Thanks!
Julia: I can tell that this time around… this IS what you really want. Gavin is a MUCH better upgrade over…
Victoria: Julia… we’re not talking about “him”, alright?
Julia: Sorry. I just couldn’t stand to see you so miserable.
Victoria: It’s in the past, I’m fine now. More than fine!
Jazmyn Cordova (formerly Rain) is the next to walk up to her.
Jazmyn: Some party, huh?
Victoria: You and Lance did an amazing job with this, Jaz!
Jazmyn: Hey, that’s what the maid of honor and best man have to do, right? Listen, Lance and I are about to toast you both and then we get into the whole “speech thing”. You’re ready for it, right?
Victoria: I hope so… *laughs*...
Jazmyn: By the way, what happened to your parents? I don’t see them.
Victoria: We’re… it’s complicated…
Jazmyn: Oh… well… I do hope they are at your actual wedding this time. Anyway, let’s get going. The toast is about to start.
Jazmyn and Victoria walk toward a gathering of people. Victoria runs into a few familiar faces along the way, exchanging hugs and congratulations with the likes of Julia, Allison Mayberry (her former manager and boss in GCW), Darren Holliday (her trainer), Veronica (her high school best friend), Casey Holliday (protege) Derek Cordova (Jazmyn’s husband) among others. Gavin’s friends and family are also in the gathering as Jazmyn stands by Lance, Gavin’s best man.
Jazmyn: Alright everyone… tonight we pay a special tribute to Gavin and Victoria who, at a date they’ll disclose tonight, will become a married couple that will hopefully last a lifetime.
Lance: They’ve both come a long way. In fact, both of them went through some harsh breakups. I remember how devastated Gavin was when his ex-wife cheated on him. He told me he was done dealing with relationships and wanting to find the right woman. Then… it just so happened he came across an old high school crush in Victoria and he forgot about all that. Gavin is someone that I know has a big heart… even though the guys and I have given him shit for it sometimes… but I know how much it means for him to finally find the right woman. It’s been a hell of a long time coming, bro! Congrats! Victoria… I know we don’t know each other much but from what I gather of you, you’re a great woman with an equally big heart. Don’t whip him too much though…
Victoria laughs with the rest of the crowd.
Jazmyn: Victoria is someone that I have admired for years. She helped me get through one of the harshest, worst stretches of my entire career. She’s always wanted to reach out and help people and try to make their lives better. Both of us went through the same ringer especially when we both chose to move on from GCW but at the end of the day, we both go through it all stronger. Gavin… I may not know him too much but what I do know about him is that he’s the right man for Victoria. He is someone that is going to treat her with all due respect in the world, someone that is going to be there for her, someone that is going to take her seriously and walk with her on a journey of a lifetime and she certainly deserves this happiness…
Victoria flashes a smile, but inside she feels empty. Sighing a bit, she listens to Jazmyn finishing her speech.
Victoria (thinking): Do I really deserve this, though?
The applause dies down and Victoria gets herself away from the scene trying to take the same breather she did from her previous engagement party, though this time it isn’t out of embarrassment over who she’s getting married to… this time it’s a guilty feeling. She carries it with her as she walks into a room. Slamming and locking the door shut, she’s completely isolated, or so she thinks.
Voice: I suppose congratulations are in order…
Victoria becomes surprised at the sound of Dr. Montgomery’s voice. She turns to face her therapist who had been hanging out all alone.
Dr. Montgomery: New job… new engagement… and yet, you seem so troubled.
Victoria: What are you doing here?
Dr. Montgomery: Julia invited me, figuring you were going to isolate yourself from the scene at some point.
Victoria: Look, with all due respect, this is an engagement party, not a therapist session.
Dr. Montgomery: And yet, you’re in this room… feeling guilty because you feel like this happiness that surrounds you is something that you don’t deserve.
Victoria widens her eyes as she knows damn well how right he is.
Victoria: How can I deserve it? After I did what I did…
Dr. Montgomery: You do realize that after you left GCW, you most likely had detractors saying you didn’t deserve to wrestle anymore, right?
Victoria: Most likely…
Dr. Montgomery: And you most likely angered some people in HYBRID when you suddenly left, yet, you managed to get a new job in Millennium and you did quite well in your debut there, did you not?
Victoria: What does my engagement party have to do with that?
Dr. Montgomery: It’s two new beginnings for you, Victoria. You need to forget about what happened in the past. You can only stay in your shell for so long, be a shell of the person you are and stay in your corner for as long as you’ve been doing. Where’s that going to get you? This second chance at marriage won’t last if you don’t put enough of yourself into it…
Victoria: You mean like… my last one… but I couldn’t…
Dr. Montgomery: And what excuse do you have this time? Ever think in Hybrid you were a bit more of a mere mortal compared to the rest of your career because you didn’t put enough of yourself into your matches… with the exception of one? And how do you think that’s going to work out for you in Millennium?
Victoria: So what am I supposed to do? Be VAINGLORIOUS again? Dress up all snobby and sophisticated and act like I’m better than everyone? I DID break out of my shell before and it led me to great things… but I lost myself in it…
Dr. Montgomery: And so you’re afraid of making the same mistake you made a few years ago… I thought maybe you’d have enough confidence in yourself to realize you’re a lot older now than you were at the time. You’re certainly smart enough to not make the same mistake again, am I right?
Victoria: Yeah, you’re right.
Dr. Montgomery: Maybe your “vainglorious” phase has some answers… because I think a part of that phase is part of you. You’ve gone from one extreme to the other… from boisterous and obnoxious to introverted and conservative. Try to find a balance between both extremes, Victoria. You know what they say, “don’t worry, be happy!”
Victoria tries to let this sink in, but she suddenly hears a knock on the door.
Victoria: I should get going…
Dr. Montgomery nods as Victoria leaves the room. She happens to find her fiance Gavin standing right in front of her, looking quite worried.
Gavin: Vicky, is everything okay? You just stormed off. You’re not having second thoughts about us, are you?
Victoria: What? No! Gavin, I’m sorry. It was me… I just wasn’t sure if I deserved to have someone like you and I’m going to be honest… I haven’t put all of myself into us, there’s a piece of me ingrained in my psyche that is causing me to hold back… both with you and with my career… and it’s time for me to stop…
Gavin raises an eyebrow.
Victoria: I need to stop holding back out of fear of what other people are going to think of me and you and I both know that. You’ve been more than nice enough to keep this to yourself, but I know you feel the same way.
Gavin: You’re right, I have felt that you’ve been holding back sometimes. It doesn’t make a difference to me because I know who you really are and I know who you’re capable of being. Take all the time you need to discover that.
Victoria: Thanks for being so understanding! Don’t worry, things are going to get better from here. I promise I’ll out more of myself into this because you and I both deserve that!
The two briefly embrace before they exchange a kiss. Victoria feels a hell of a lot better and whatever remaining guilt she had from the last year is finally beginning to melt away. They walk together back down the hallway and back to the engagement party where they receive a warm reception from the guests. All Victoria can do is smile knowing that she’s finally back on track to bringing back the person inside her she’s kept inside for so long!
Julia: Congratulations!
Victoria: Thanks!
Julia: I can tell that this time around… this IS what you really want. Gavin is a MUCH better upgrade over…
