The scene fades in from black to a shot of Kelsey Spencer standing outside. She’s rugged up with a big coat, scarf, a beanie atop her blue hair, and even a pair of mittens. It’s clear this Australian-born athlete isn’t too accustomed to the cold Canadian weather. With her back slightly turned to us, she stares off into the distance, admiring the scenery.
"The past couple of weeks have been awesome,” she says as she glances over her shoulder.
One last look at her surroundings before she turns to fully face the camera.
“I've made a lotta great memories on this most recent tour. Coming back to Canada to wrestle has been a real treat. I love the fans here, I love the atmosphere they bring. You know, they say every wrestling crowd is different depending on where you are in the world, and the Canadian fans have shown me that. Every time I've come up here for Riot, they've given off this warmth that's unlike anything else I've experienced. It's not better, it's not worse, it's… different. And I really like that."
She nods her head and wears a modest smile.
"While I'm sad that our stay north of the border's coming to a close, I'm optimistic about what the future holds. When one chapter ends, another begins. There'll be more tours to come, of that I'm sure, but I wanna make the most of what's left of this one. I wanna leave the Canadian fans with a memory they'll never forget. A moment that'll stick with them for a very long time."
She clears her throat to combat the cold air drying it out.
“My journey to this moment started when I arrived here in Millennium Wrestling,” she recalls. “I came to Millennium Wrestling to test my skills against the toughest wrestlers I could find. And Riot especially, with names like Corey Grimes, Melissa Reeves, Zafar Khan? It doesn’t matter what someone the likes of Chris Constantine Jr. says; some of the best wrestlers in MWE can be found on the Riot roster.”
She pauses for just a brief moment to stroke her mitten-covered index finger against her chin.
“But, while challenging myself like that is really fun, there’s one thing I really wanna do above everything else.”
With authority, she declares, “I wanna be the best.”
“I wanna be the best wrestler Riot has to offer. And to do that, I’ve gotta beat the best. The best on the Riot roster… and right now, that's the one wearing the hardware to prove it. Yup, the current Riot Champion, Liv Mercer. I’ve already done it once to earn this title match, so I know that it’s possible… I’ve just gotta do it again when it counts the most.”
“Liv, I’ll admit that you really got me a couple of weeks ago in that tag team match. You used the assets you had at your disposal to get one up on me when Riot came to Nova Scotia. You had your boyfriend come down and clobber me over the head with a right fist. I was knocked loopy, I was seeing stars. The next thing I know, Cardi B’s blasting over the sound system, you’re standing over me with the Riot Championship title held high. You pulled the wool over my eyes, Liv. I didn’t see it coming.”
Spencer steps a little closer to the camera, adjusting the volume of her voice down just a touch to match.
“But there’s one thing you’ve gotta understand, Liv, and that’s this. Your tricks won’t work twice… Not on someone like me. Oz Dalton may have given you the opening you needed in Nova Scotia. But this Sunday, when we get to the Bell Centre in Montreal, he won’t be able to catch me off guard. In fact, the same could be said for a lotta the stuff you’re probably counting on, I bet. I’ve been watching tape on you, I’ve been studying every match you’ve had here - especially the ones you’ve had as the Riot Champion. I’ve scouted your bag of tricks, I know what to watch out for.”
Kelsey takes a step back, and a deep, cleansing sigh along with it. She spreads her arms out wide, only to bring them back together for a clap.
“From what I can see, you’ve got two options here, Liv,” she continues. “Two options that you can take when it comes to our Riot Championship Match on Sunday. Option one is you can reach down deep into your bag of tricks and you can pull out something I’ve never seen before, and you can hope that it’ll be enough to trick me at the right time for you to get the win. Or, option two, you dig down deep into your soul and you find that extra drive you need to get the job done. Because Liv, I’m sure you can tell by now that I’m not like anyone you’ve defended your title against before. It usually takes a little more to keep me down that it does most others.”
“I hope you weigh your options. And I hope you see that option two’s really the only one you’ve got here. The eyes of the world are gonna be watching. They wanna see a match they’ll never forget. And a lotta those eyes are gonna be glued to you, wondering what you’ll do when the going gets tough."
Seemingly out of nowhere, the energy of the #1 Contender spikes, the fire of her searing words no doubt warming the crisp, cool air around her.
"Show them you really are the best!” she implores her opponent. “Show me you’re as good as you say you are! Leave Oz at home, put the likes of Eliza Valentine in the back of your mind and focus on what's right in front of you. Eliza likes to talk a good game on social media, but she's not the one who's gonna be standing across that ring come Sunday night. I want you to show up for a fight on Sunday, because lemme tell you, hands down, this will be the toughest challenge you've ever had to face as champion. This is a golden opportunity for me to take everything I want - to lead the Riot brand as its champion - and I'm not about to let it go to waste. I won't let that slip through my fingers. I've got no desire to go to the back of the line after Sunday night."
With a fierce gaze, her eyes lock onto the camera as she makes one final statement.
“Every chapter’s end leads to another chapter’s beginning. And this Sunday, the end of your reign as Riot Champion will mean the beginning of mine.”
