INT. GYM - MIAMI, FLORIDA
The next RIOT show was coming up, and Dean felt conflicted with himself with how it ended. A decision loss wasn’t the way he wanted to end it, especially seeing how he thought he’d done better than the champion. Under these circumstances, Dean would welcome having the advice and help of a veteran to help him out and reassure him that he would be up to the task. Very fortunately, Dean’s sister Mimi had a certain acquaintance - the then Union GP Middleweight Champion, “The Primarch” Robert Guilliman, of the Real KILLAS MMA camp.
The Primarch, for his part, was not the kind to turn down a request for assistance - especially if it came from Mimi - and he gladly joined up with Dean and Mimi at the Miami gym Dean’s other sister Maxie worked at, specialising in MMA, Boxing and Wrestling. So there they were hard at work, with Guilliman holding the heavy bag as Dean launched rights and lefts mercilessly, in a pattern he’d learned and used in many of his Millennium matches.
THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
Very good, keep that momentum going. Don’t let them ever get the chance to breathe if you must not.

Guilliman nods gravely as he feels Dean’s impacts on the bag. After a while, Guilliman signals to stop for Dean to get a breather.
THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
Decision loss, eh? I know what that is all too well. So far, my only loss in Union GP ended that way. Edan McLeod is a lightning fast boxer, and he did capitalize on his speed. But well…

He gives a political smile.
THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
The next fight I had, I met him again, and put him down for a knockout. Like this.

Motioning for Dean to keep his distance, he launches a tremendous high kick that lands perfectly on the heavy bag, wobbling it back and forth.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
“And allow me to tell you - no victory is as sweet as that which comes with vindication. Focus on that, and let that be what drives you in your match. Then think your opponent is on the way of vindication, and deal with them in the only way a Real KILLA would - by sending them to their grave.”

Dean gives the bag his own strike, landing his Mean Dean knee. The impact wobbles the bag back and forth while Dean walks past Robert to grab a quick drink. He wipes his lip afterwards and asks loudly to Robert behind him.
DEAN SMITH:
And against the Submission types?
And against the Submission types?
He asks, knowing Cole Gregory used submissions in every one of their encounters so far. Guilliman motions for him to come at him.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
“To apply a submission, one must first perform a takedown. Come and try to take me down.”
“To apply a submission, one must first perform a takedown. Come and try to take me down.”
Moving to the center of the ring where they were training, Guilliman puts up his guard as Dean came.
DEAN SMITH:
I mean...have you come up against submission specialists…?
I mean...have you come up against submission specialists…?
He turns slightly to hear any words of advice.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
“That would have been my two first UGP fights. Sang-Hyun Lee styles himself a submission wizard, so does Adegoke Müller. When facing submission specialists, you have two choices. Either you play the cat and mouse game, or you stop their takedowns.”

Dean comes forward and attempts to take down the Primarch, but the latter successfully guards his legs, and both of them end up in a sprawl position.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
“Like that.”
“Like that.”
When Dean gets back to standing, Guilliman motions with his right knee.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
“Adegoke Müller got tagged with this, and down he went for the knockout as well.”

DEAN SMITH:
Yeah well, I’m looking to knock out Cole Gregory. His subs got me before, but after the injury I’ve held my own with him, defeated him outside the invictus rules and now this split decision loss.

Dean turns around now to face Robert.
DEAN SMITH:
Guess I am looking for vindication, but I keep coming up short..

”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
“It’s in times like these where you focus on your opponent’s strengths. He’s a submissionist?

DEAN SMITH:
Strikes too, but I’m better...
Strikes too, but I’m better...
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
Theoretical: Your opponent’s submission skills are formidable, and pose a considerable threat. Practical: Work on countering submissions.

BEAT.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
And so it is with every aspect of an opponent’s skills. He has great striking power? Make certain his strikes don’t land. Does he have great stamina? Make sure you can go toe-to-toe with him. The important thing is effectively matching, or countering, the opponent’s strength. Once you do - that’s where your own innate strengths will give you the advantage. Information, friend, is victory. Learn to master this concept, and you shall know no fear. ”

DEAN SMITH:
(Chuckling)
I already don’t show any fear.

I already don’t show any fear.
Dean gives Robert a nod, putting his ego aside to learn from someone in a better position than himself right now.
DEAN SMITH:
But I will. You know how to pull off a Bridging Arm Triangle Chokehold aka ‘The Cole-Lapse’?
But I will. You know how to pull off a Bridging Arm Triangle Chokehold aka ‘The Cole-Lapse’?
Guilliman shakes his head.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
I am a striker first and foremost - there is nothing I would hate more than finding myself on the ground. However, once there, I know how to escape. That is how I won the Union GP Middleweight Title against Cristian Bonanno.

He gets on the ground on his back, and motions for Dean to get close.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
Try to put a submission on me.
Try to put a submission on me.
And Dean approaches, using the Cole-Lapse specifically. Guilliman, however, is fast enough to move his arm around Dean’s neck before Dean can press it against his own shoulder, thus neutralizing the move.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
The best way to avoid finding yourself in that sort of tight positions is preventing them from happening in the first place. And thus…

The Primarch rolls, putting all his weight behind the waist, and finds himself on a top mount position right over Dean. He motions for a punch on ground and pound, but as Dean instinctively puts up his guard, he goes back on his feet, over the prone Invictus Title number one contender.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
... that is how you turn the tables on your foe.
... that is how you turn the tables on your foe.
Dean then gets himself up from the ground.
DEAN SMITH:
I know how to do that, don’t you worry. I was in the market for more ways to counter it.

As he gives the bag another punch, letting out some frustrations.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
Not so easily said when you’ve fallen victim to that, however. Come on.

Guilliman puts his guard up again.
DEAN SMITH:
Well I’ve managed to counter it once.
Well I’ve managed to counter it once.
He looks at Guilliman confused why he wants him to come on. Guilliman approaches and shoots his traditional high kick, just barely missing Dean. He then replies to Guilliman with a forward shoot kick, which the Union GP Middleweight Champion barely manages to guard. In reply, Guilliman goes for a right hook, which the Invictus Title contender blocks as well, and with that, both fighters step back from each other find themselves in the center of the ring again. Guilliman taps both fists against each other.
”THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN:
Here I come again. Make every shot count!
Here I come again. Make every shot count!
And as both fighters approach each other again, the scene fades to black.
