Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Still nothing?
The question was meant for Helena Noir. The former Liberty champion is pacing nervously back and forth inside Gian's office, her phone glued to her hear.
Helena Noir:
Nothing. She's not picking up...
Frustrated, she interrupts the call and put the phone back in her pocket.
Helena Noir:
This is bullshit Gian. We all saw what happened at Dark Web! They took her, why aren't we calling the police?
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Nowhere in the footage we were able to gather shows they abducted her. As far as we know, she could have followed them on her own accord.
Gian replied in a serious tone, his voice betraying a certain level of concern.
Helena Noir:
Come on, you don't believe that...
He shook his head.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
No, I don't. But this is what any officer would tell you.
Helena Noir:
So there's nothing we can do?
After taking a minute to think it through, he replied.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Our former student Trinity was taken by them. I don't know if she remembers where they live but...
Helena Noir:
Saoirse!
The principal raised an eyebrow.
Helena Noir:
I can contact her. Ask if they have Gardiner and if she's ok...
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Do you think she will tell you?
Helena Noir:
It's one hell of a longshot, but it's all we got.
He gave her a nod. As Helena started scrolling on her phone, the camera cut to black.

Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Thank you for joining me so quickly, Marissa. I know your students are waiting for you, but hopefully this won’t take too long.
Standing up from his chair, Gian greets the Olympic gold medalist with a firm handshake, inviting her to take a seat in front of him. He slightly turns the screen of his computer so that they both could look at it.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
I’m sure you already know why I asked you to join me. I wish we didn’t have to come to this, Deyanira was one of the most promising students we have and it’s unfortunate that she decided to pursue a different path. But there are other prospects that could use this opportunity. I would like you to take a look at some profiles I selected and believe would be a good addition to your team.
Without wasting any time, aware that Marissa has quite the field day lined up with her team, he clicks the play button. The video shows a young man, truly a physical specimen despite the young age and with an athleticism you wouldn’t expect from a guy that size. Marissa’s eyebrows raise slightly as she watches the tape, she leans back in her chair slightly, folding her arms. A few more seconds pass before she reaches for the remote, hitting the ‘pause’ button.
Marissa Kanensson:
Look, we could sit here and watch hours and hours of tape, trying to figure out who is promising enough to replace Deyanira. But, something doesn’t feel right here, Gian. I don’t think Deyanira voluntarily left at all. I think she was forced. Don’t we owe it to our students to afford them our protection from outside influences?
She sighs, brushing away a lock of her blonde hair, reaching forward, placing a tattooed hand on Vaccaro’s desk.
Marissa Kanensson:
Gian, give me a little time to get to the bottom of this. I don’t think it’s fair that we can just allow someone to…leave like she did. If I go and she says she doesn’t want to return, then I’ll leave it there and we can decide on a replacement - plenty of students have come in later and done just fine. So, let me figure this out, okay?
The principal stares back at her in silence for a few seconds, clasping his hands in front of his mouth as he ponders his options. His eyes drift to the computer screen, on the frozen image of that same guy lifting another kid over his head without breaking a sweat.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
I had the same feeling, her family certainly played a major role in this.
Nodding his head, he turns the screen away from Kanensson.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Unfortunately I can’t give you as much time as I’d like. Reach out to her, fly there if you need to and write it off as business expense. But I need an answer by the end of next week. If she isn’t here for next Friday’s show, I’m afraid we won’t have a choice but to move on. And believe me, it’s not a decision I’m making light-heartedly.
Marissa bows her head slightly, resigned to a slim feeling of defeat, knowing how it’d likely go with Deyanira’s family. She then looked back up to the principal, nodding at him.
Marissa Kanensson:
Alright, I’ll go. I won’t promise anything, but I’ll do everything I can possibly do to get her back here. She’s got unfinished business, and I’m not about to let her just…give up on this all.
His lips curl into a slight smile, almost comforting in a way.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
If someone has a chance, it’s you Marissa. Just remember what you said, we should always have our students’ best interests in mind. And as of now, technically she still is your student.
Pushing back his chair, he slowly stands up once again.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Speaking of which, I believe there’s four more of them who are waiting for you.
Marissa returns the smile, rising to her feet and exchanging another firm handshake with the Academy’s principal.
Marissa Kanensson:
Indeed. Hopefully, next time you see me I’ll have my fifth back with me.
With a warm squint of the eyes Marissa turns on her heels, exiting her office, a clear mission in mind.
