3x21 BIRTHDAY
The Locker Room
April 18th, 2023
8:45 AM
With the camera cutting to the locker room, Scott Martell is seen sat down drinking from a bottle of water. From the looks of things, the self proclaimed Great Scott has already been hard at work since the early hours, his tank top drenched in sweat as he takes a breather before the day's classes. As he took another sip, his mobile phone began to buzz, and the young New Yorker picked it up to answer.
Scott Martell:
Yo…
Scott listened in to the other voice on the phone, though it was not clear who he was speaking to at all. Scott’s eyes opened wide as he scratched his eyebrow, shaking his head as he responded to them sharply.
Scott Martell:
Look, I just need to know whether you can set it up or not? I need to figure out a way to test this out without anyone scouting. You saw what happened when Alice overanalyzed my matches, right? She shouldn’t even be in this Academy, and she scouted out The Scoop for Reign. I can’t have that happen again when I’m finally getting the Gold Star shot that I should have had weeks ago. I can’t even have Dakota or the rest of the team see what I’m planning. It’s that important.
Martell stood up, shaking his head as he began to pace the room, clearly not liking what he was hearing from the other person on the line.
Scott Martell:
Come on… I’ve done everything I’ve asked of you. I’m on course to reach the top, and done all you’ve required. We had an agreement, yo? I just need you to set this one thing up, and send over “The Big Guy”. I just need this last bit of preparation, and that Gold Star is in the bag. I can feel it.
Leaning against one of the bright blue lockers, he peeled off his sweat drenched tank top, revealing that he was arguably in the best shape of his life, ready and raring to go. His voice, which was almost authoritative a short moment ago, now became softer as he responded to the person on the other line.
Scott Martell:
Yes… yeah, I know I asked that of you… But Ava is important to me. I never thought I’d meet anyone like her here, and I was going to be all business… Don’t be like that, you know what she means to me.
Rubbing his face with his hand, he closed his eyes, turning to the locker as he seemed like he was about to punch it out of pure frustration.
Scott Martell:
No, no… I get it. It does mean a lot how you managed to get the insurance for that. I appreciate everything you did to help her… But honestly, I just need this one last thing while I’m in the Academy. This is it, this is the chance.
Instead, he punched the air in delight, tapping his feet on the ground as his face lit up in pure joy.
Scott Martell:
Thank you. Thank you. You both will not regret this at all… What? What am I preparing? What is it called?
Scott was clearly ecstatic, a wide grin on his face as he took a long pause, that cocky grin painted on his face as he responded to their obvious question.
Scott Martell:
It’s The Move.
He answered, letting out a short laugh, before the footage faded away.
The Gym
April 19th, 2023
10:00 PM
The thudding of a punching bag being constantly wailed on was heard well before it was seen, the echoes reverberating around the gym. As the video faded in, Dakota was seen throwing lefts and rights, jabs and hooks, haymakers and elbows. What little tape remained on her fingers was soaked through with sweat and blood, her knuckles dripping the mix onto the bag and floor. A wild swing sent her spinning, and in her exhaustion she went to the floor. She dragged herself toward the wall, her trembling hands making for slow progress, yet she managed.
With a huff, she pulled herself onto a nearby bench where her bag and water bottle awaited her. She struggled to uncap the bottle, taking a few attempts to grip it enough to take a sip which wound up spilling all over her. She didn’t care, she was too determined to continue.. Her body had other plans, her legs giving way as she tried to force herself back up. Perhaps for the better, as her ringtone pierced the silence. Wrangling the phone was proving difficult for her bloodied hands, taking until the last moment to answer the call.
Dakota:
Hi, Daddy… I just wanted to let you know that you and.. Brooke have tickets waiting. I know it’s kinda short notice, but you told me to tell you when it was a really important one, and I don’t think it’s going to get any more important than this.
She leaned back against the wall, staring up at the ceiling through matted hair.
Dakota:
Yes, Dad… Just get on the fucking plane and stop giving me the run around every time I want you to be involved in literally anything I do!
She paused, almost dropping the phone from her shoulder.
Dakota:
Sorry, Daddy… I’m just really stressed out, really bothered by this bi-... Other student here. I hate her, I hate everything about her. I hate that she’s a complete, unapologetic, trash bag of a Gold Star. I hate the way she treats people. I hate the way she looks down on me. I hate the way she’s better than me no matter how hard I fucking work for it, I-...
She sighed, dropping the phone to her lap. It took a moment of her fathers incoherent rambling to get her to raise it back up, still shaking.
Dakota:
I hate knowing that I’m not going to give up if she’s still standing. I hate having to do whatever it takes to make sure that at the end of the night there is an “And NEW”, whether it’s my hand being raised or Scott’s… And let’s be real, no matter how good I get, they’re both better, Daddy. You go right ahead and say it. You’d love nothing more, I get it, and you can feel free to say it to my face after the show. But when it’s all said and done, if I have to leave on a stretcher, Reign isn’t walking out as she walked in… Because I hate her, and all I can ever hope to do is take SOMETHING from her, no matter how small it is… So.. Come if you want, Daddy, Brooke too. I actually don’t care anymore… I gotta go.
She didn’t wait for a response, she just ended the call without any further theatrics. Still weak, she forced herself to get to her feet, and with a little effort made her way back to her heavy bag. Though quieter than before, the thudding of her fists connecting once again echoed in the gym as the video faded out.
The Studio
April 21st, 2023
4:45 PM
As the camera cut to the studio at the Academy, “Great” Scott Martell could be seen wearing an extremely flashy red and gold ring jacket, long red wrestling tights with the word “Great” in jagged letters down the side, and a pair of oversized, flashy sunglasses, more resembling a pair that Elton John might have worn for a concert. With that fresh and cocky grin spread across his handsome, youthful features, he lowered his shades to wink to the camera.
Scott Martell:
This is the Moment. This is the Time. This is the Move.
Martell stated, sharp and filled to the very brim with confidence, mere hours before he would enter the ring to compete for the biggest prize in the Academy, the Gold Star.
Scott Martell:
Since day one, day one in the Academy. Ever since I walked through those doors after signing on the dotted line and coming to the Academy, this has been what I have been waiting for. This one night. This one chance.
Scott’s voice was full of power, something not quite heard as of yet from the brash New Yorker, but he was spilling his heart out as he spoke now.
Scott Martell:
And it should have been sooner. But politics, requests, suggestions all got in the way. So I’ve had to bide my time, wait it out, but now, NOW it all comes to a head. Was I pissed that I had to sit out the last supershow and watch from behind the scenes as I was told to wait for my opportunity because someone else wanted a one on one shot? Damn right I was pissed off. Was I pissed when I could have had, should have had my chance on the biggest of stages and that was taken away from me? Damn right I was pissed off. But you know what that did? It lit a fire under me. Made me train harder, train faster and made me more prepared for this very night.
Martell beat his chest as he spoke, his shades still lowered as he stared into the camera lens.
Scott Martell:
I never thought it would be under these circumstances. I didn’t think I would be put in the queue by Gian, nor did I think I would be traded to Team Strike. But that has only improved my skills, my focus and my technique. Walking onto Team Strike has been a breath of fresh air, and working with a crew that has the goal of making everyone better, rather than a group of individuals has been massively rewarding for me. I’ve been waiting, almost begging for that edge to help push me to the next level. To reach those Great heights I promised myself… And with the trade to Team Strike, training with this tight group, under a world traveled world champion coach… And an amazing woman at my side… I feel like I am there. Right here, right now, I am there. And I am feeling Great!
He took a beat, a moment, a single moment in time as he nodded to the camera.
Scott Martell:
Dakota, been all good training with you this week. Not really spoken to you all that much before the trade, but I have seen from day one that you’ve always had a good head on your shoulders, and from what I have seen training alongside you, even more so than watching you show in, show out, you have the skills to show off. I’m not here to bad mouth you, and I have seen what you can do when you start spitting bars on Twitter. You back up that venom when you’re all fired up. And I know you will be fired up tonight. I’m all for Team Strike… But I’m also here for the Gold Star.
He turned to his left, seeing a poster for the event, with images of himself, Dakota and Reign central, holding onto the Gold Star prize with a sickly grin on her face.
Scott Martell:
As for Reign… Well…
He began counting on his fingers as he began rifling off on the Gold Star.
Scott Martell:
Clueless, self centered, delusional, destructive, manipulative, unscrupulous. All words and phrases to describe you, Reign. Months ago, you tried taking the moral road, when you aimed to take down the last bitch who tried ruining this Academy. This was, of course, after weeks of insulting and damning your coach when they were actually trying to help you. But, you know, seems you ran some tapes of previous years on how some of the now hasbeens you have barely been got some attention in the Academy. But at the end of it, you made some friends. Got yourself a loyal boyfriend, had his family pimping out your name like you were one of their own.
He pulled off his shades, staring deep and speaking proud.
Scott Martell:
But that wasn’t enough for you, was it? Besides injuring your friend, your best friend, you decided to taunt and humiliate her while she was injured, even manipulating her own family, her flesh and blood to practically be on your side in all of this. Rather than bettering yourself, you took your time to try and belittle and put everyone else around you. Rather than using this school to get better, you tried to make everyone else worse. And you know why?
Folding his arms across his chest, Scott displayed that award winning, cocky smile of his.
Scott Martell:
Because you can’t evolve.
…
Scott Martell:
Sammy Grimes, with Reign’s thumbprint practically tattooed on his forehead, came out and said that you had brought more attention to the Academy than anyone in the past three years. While I’d like to differ, with the names of Faith, Tiana, Trinity, Addison, Bebe and Rainer coming to mind, the only thing she has brought to the dance is negativity. That scum flourish, that derailing students pays, that insulting coaches is the way forward and scamming your way to the top is the way forward. Reign, you may have even surpassed the last bitch in giving the Academy a bad rep. If anything, you have done more to encourage students to take up an offer at another school, where they can learn, train and be better, than for anyone to come to the MWE. But that all changes. That all changes tonight.
…
Scott Martell:
The one decent thing you have done in the ring, and it ain’t that match with Alice, that is for sure, because she was the real spectacular one in that encounter… Was counter The Scoop. And even then, that was her doing. That was you actually listening to someone else for once in your fucking life and following their guidance. Imagine what could have been if you had bothered listening to Kayla and Lady, huh?
Martell shook his head, ready to sign off as he hopped on the spot.
Scott Martell:
Tonight, come hell or highwater, the Reign of Reign ends. Tonight, a new, true Gold Star is going to be crowned. And tonight, you’re going to see what I have been promising all week. The Move to end all Moves. Practiced, honed, perfected. And no one, NO ONE in the Academy is going to see this one coming. Cause while Sammy rambles on saying everyone is talking about you… What they gonna be talking about when I put you down for not the first, not the second, nut for the THIRD time and have my arm raised as the new Gold Star of the MWE Academy? You know what they are going to be talking about? Do you?
Great Scott gave a great, big smile.
Scott Martell:
They are going to be saying that Great Scott Martell has made the Academy Great Again. Watch out for The Move… Greatness awaits.
