The Hallways 3/9/2023 8:53 PM
The scene opens on everybody’s favorite Gold Star, Reign Reyes, walking down the hallway with an acoustic guitar strapped across her body. She strums it gently and it sounds… awful. Clearly she has zero musical ability.
Reign Reyes: You know what I love about you, Dakota? How you try so hard not to try. It’s comical. There you sat in a classroom all by your lonesome. Just you and a camera. Telling the world how you, young lady, don’t like to be the center of attention. But there you were, making yourself a beacon of hypocrisy. And what did it take from me to push you over the edge? To shove you out of your comfort zone? A single tweet. I didn’t tell the world your career was over or point out that you’re forever haunted by the actions of your dear father? Nope. I just tweeted, “That's your problem, Dakota. You're always a spectator.”
Reign nods.
Reign Reyes: That’s some next level villain shit right there, huh? In fact I need to come clean, I didn’t come up with that biting bit of commentary on my own. I had to hit up my Uncle Julian and pass it through the villain chain of command where they workshopped it a bit before getting it just right.
She rolls her eyes.
Reign Reyes: The truth of the matter is that you Dakota, are what we like to call in the gaming world, a care bear. You run around looking for a reason to whine. Just begging to be butt hurt. In layman’s terms, you’re a bitch.
Reign shrugs as she shoulders through a set of double doors and continues down the hallway, addressing the various cameras as she goes.
Reign Reyes: You seem to get a kick out of the fact that you made some noise at my expense. You’re proud of that. But look where it got you. The main event. Under the glaring spotlight. The one place you don’t want to be. Think you’ll rise to the occasion?
Reign waggles his eyebrows and laughs.
Reign Reyes: We both know you won’t. You’ll wilt and wither. You’ll die on the vine. You said it yourself. There’s a reason you’re not the lead singer. Hell, I doubt you even play lead guitar. You strike me as more of a bass player, happy to fade into the background and hide behind your hair. That’s why you style it like you do. Security. It’s the same reason you needed to cut your promo from behind a guitar. You’re like Linus and his blanket. In fact that’s why I have this beauty right here.
Reign raises the guitar towards the camera as she shoulders through a final set of double doors and into the gym.
Reign Reyes: It’s for you. At any time during our match should you feel like it’s all a bit too much, know that this baby right here, will be just under the ring.
She ducks out from under the guitar strap, picks up the ring apron and slides the guitar under the ring.
Reign Reyes: The last thing I want is for you to feel uncomfortable. To shrink from the moment. To be out in the big bad world without your safety net.
Reign stands, addressing the nearest camera directly.
Reign Reyes: It’s good that you didn’t come here to parade around as the Gold Star, Dakota. Because you won’t get that opportunity. It’s good you didn’t come here to rub your success in other people’s faces. Because that would be a very short session given your track record here thus far. Watching me get pinned by Scott was your happiest moment since you stepped foot in the Academy? First of all, you’re welcome. I’m glad I could bring you SO much joy. Second of all, that’s fucking pathetic. But you predicted I’d say that, didn’t you? You’ve got me all figured out.
She starts towards the exit but stops, turning to face the camera once more.
Reign Reyes: You were wrong about one thing though. You said I’m a dime a dozen. That could be no further from the truth. At For No One you’ll learn that first hand. I may be an asshole but I’m a special kind of asshole. One you won’t easily forget. I asked to defend against you because it gives me the chance to do something nice for Ava. I saw her lying there in that hospital bed all alone and my heart broke. Thanks to you I’ll be able to give her the one thing she truly needs… a roommate.
With a wink Reign turns and heads for the exit, strumming an air guitar the entire way.
Team Title Triple Threat Tag Team Match
Team Noir © (Sammy Grimes & Clementine Smith) VS Team Jones (Missy Propaganda & Kyle Ashton) VS Team Strike (CJ Night & Marina Marston) - All three teams were road-tested, but even though Sammy and Clem had experience as a team, they still didn't seem too fond of teaming up. They simply weren't on the same page, struggling to work together even for the basic tag interactions, making it easy for the opposing team to take control.
- Missy and Kyle on the other hand worked like a well-oiled machine. They isolated Smith in their corner and worked her with kicks and punches to the ribs. The resident magician even hit the former gymanst with a rib breaker, holding her across his knee for Missy to kick her in the head with a low dropkick.
- When Clem finally managed to catch a break, she chose to tag Marina rather than her own partner. This caused more tension to rise in the team, to the disappointement of their team leader Helena Noir.
- Marston took on Kyle with a series of kicks to the torso and then tagged her partner in. With CJ in, the pace picked up immediately. The youngest student of the Academy fired up the fans with a dropkick to the face followed by a standing shooting star press, but he only got a count of two.
- He sent Ashton into the ropes and that was when Sammy Grimes tagged himself in. He and Night really took it to the next level with a ridiculouus exchange. They traded kicks and counters at a crazy pace, showing off their outstanding agility with gravity-defying moves. Truly a sight for sore eyes that kept the fans glued and in awe. At the end of it, Grimes was the one standing tall after a corner shiranui.
- Finally, although reluctantly, Sammy and Clementine began to work together. They keep it to a bare minimum, tagging in and out and occasionally attempting a double team move. This new found harmony produced a near fall for Team Noir after they hit ;Marina with a double superkick, but CJ saved his partner.
- In the final moments of the match Missy Propaganda stole the show. After tagging in at the expenses of Clementine, Missy began to swing those legs, hitting CJ with a flurry of strikes. Night managed to get some separation and tag Marina in, but despite her attempts, Marston couldn't get the job done, and eventually succumbed to Missy's roundhouse kick.

Gold Star Match
Reign Reyes © VS Dakota
- Some people may have been surprised by seeing Dakota in a Gold Star match, others have been critical of management for, in their words, pandering Reign's whim. But the truth was that Dakota has made some drastic improvements in recent weeks, and this shot should be considered as a reward for the work she put in and the progress she made. Proof of that were the first moments of the match where she seemed to have a counter for every one of Reyes' moves, putting the exclamation mark on a solid start with a facebreaker knee smash. Reign really felt that move, instantly rolling out of the ring to regroup and check on her nose. Luckily for her, there was no blood loss.
- Reign was learning a valuable lesson today: never understimate your opponent, especially when they are as motivated as Dakota was. The tension that grew between them in the past weeks was fueling the guitarist in what was hands down her best performance so far, even better than she performed on last week's tag match. A hangman neckbreaker really got her hopes up, but Reyes kicked out in 2.9.
- After a surprisingly uphill start, the Gold Star managed to turn the tide with a spectacular springboard cutter that caught Dakota completely off guard.
- The third generation was truly showing off her talent tonight and, at the same time, trying to humble the opponent and make a statement. Her strikes were particualrly stiff and The Long Kiss Goodnight, the buzzsaw kick Reign learned from her mother, might have been enough to get the win, but Reign didn't even attempt to make the cover.
- Biding her time, Reyes looked in absolute control. Moves like The Crowning and the Savell's Stomp, both tributes to major influences in her wrestling style really increased the gap between the Gold Star and her challenger, and the impression everyone had was that Reign could end it anytime now.
- The problem with toying with the opponent like Reign was doing was that the longer this went, the more confident the Gold Star grew. And the more confident and indulgent she became, the more she lowered her guard and opened herself to Dakota's comeback. It started with a codebreaker and went on for a few minutes filled with striking combinations and a number of DDT variations that left the Gold Star dazed. Dakota leveled her with a running single leg dropkick and then climbed to the top rope. Jumping backward, she soared the air with a moonsault, but once again Reyes kicked out in two and half.
- The second high-risk move didn't pan out as well as the first, with Reign raising her knee to protect herself from Dakota's dive and thus making her landing extremely uncomfortable and painful.
- It was quite surprising to see Reign heading to the corner and removing the protective pad from the top turnbuckle. The referee obviously reproached her for it and forced her to hand over the pad, which he quickly went to position back on the exposed turnbuckle. As he did so, Reign rolled out of the ring and searched for something under the ring, bringing out the same guitar she used in her promo. She wasn't going to perform for the fans though. Instead, she smashed it on Dakota's head.
