Tag Team Match
Addi McKins & Luis Rivera VS Faizah Marshall & Clyde Eldon Jr.
- Teaming for the first time since the disbanding of Planet Faizah, Eldon and Marshal still seemed to be on the same page. The same couldn’t be said about their opponents, who had been arguing and taunting each other since entering the ring. A rivalry tracing back to the Academy days between two very proud competitors with a huge ego despite the young age.
- The bell had already sounded and they were still arguing about who should’ve started. Finally, Luis gave up and let the Khaleesi begin the match. As soon as Addi turned around, she got leveled by Clyde’s clothesline. Eldon then picked her up and shoved her in the corner, delivering a few shoulder tackles to the stomach before offering the tag to Faizah. The Original BAE signaled him to lift McKinley over the top rope, which he did. Another nod from Faizah and Clyde dropped on all fours. The Cloud Gate champion stepped on her partner’s back to deliver an enziguri to Addi.
- The ruinous fall on the outside appeared to have injured Addi’s shoulder, not a good news two weeks before the PPV. Faizah noticed it and wisely began to target it. She kicked and torqued the shoulder, keeping Addi away from her corner. After a shoulder breaker, Marshall attempted the cover, pressing with both hands on that injured shoulder, but still couldn’t keep Addi down for the three. Captain Gold Star desperately needed a tag, but even when she had the chance after catching the champ with a codebreaker, her pride and whatever was going on between her and Rivera prevented her from making the tag.
- Eventually Luis was able to get involved with a sneaky blind tag, pissing off the exhausted Houston native. The former boxer brought a breath of fresh air to the match, stunning Clyde with his quick punches combination. He then whipped Eldon in the corner and followed with a splash, squashing him against the turnbuckle. Climbing on the middle rope, Luis then delivered ten punches to the opponent’s skull, making the cover right after for a count of two.
- Unlike Addison, Luis didn’t seem to have a problem sharing the spotlights and when Addison asked for the tag, after Faizah got it from Clyde, he gladly got her involved. The two young wrestlers fought back and forth for over three minutes, giving the New Jersey fans a preview of what will happen at the Five Year Anniversary show. Addison hit the springboard knee strike, scoring another near fall on the champion. A minute later McKinley was laying on her back, staring at the lights after Faizah connected a reverse DDT. As for the champion, she was standing on the top rope, ready to go for the BAE Alert.
- Luis grabbed his partner’s arm and pulled her out of the ring, saving her from a certain end. He may have done it to protect his undefeated streak, but either way, it allowed the match to continue. Addison needed a moment to regain her bearings, but as soon as she did, she blurted at his tag partner, yelling that she was just playing possum and he ruined it. Marshall jumped toward them with a diving crossbody, Addi somehow saw that coming and she moved out of the way, leaving Luis to take the brunt of the fall. Having come out unharmed by this, Addi could then unleash hell on Faizah, planting her with a tornado ddt from the apron on the concrete fall. She might have gotten a bit carried away and didn’t hear the referee’s count reaching nine, or maybe she didn’t care about winning the match as much as she did about sending a message, seeing how she kept raining down blows on her even after the bell rang.
WINNER: Draw BY: Double Count Out, 10:39 |
Singles Match
Pierce Manning VS Darcy Graves
- It was a different Pierce Manning the one who entered the ring tonight. Not really on his general attitude, he was still being a jerk to the fans, but in the ring. More focused and determined than he had been in a long time, The Man greeted Darcy with a barrage of lefts and rights, immediately pinning her into the corner. A few more uppercuts and the two time Riot champion was ready to lift the opponent on the top rope and taking her all the way down with a superplex.
- After the rough start, Graves finally seemed to be finding her footing in the match, blocking a german suplex attempt by holding onto the top rope and throwing her head backward, catching Pierce on the nose. The Man had to let go of his waistlock and Darcy quickly stepped through the ropes, standing on the apron. From there, she jumped back in the ring with a springboard crossbody, pinning the opponent for a two count.
- As the match continued, Graves managed to cut Pierce down to size with a low kick to the lateral knee. Manning dropped down, his hand instantly reaching the sore part, leaving himself exposed to Darcy’s kicks to the chest. After six of those painted Manning’s chest a bright shade of red, Graves turned off his lights with a brutal roundhouse kick. At the very last moment, Pierce raised his shoulder.
- Manning retook control with a lariat to the back of the head after countering Darcy’s double axe handle attempt with an atomic drop. Darcy was on all fours, trying to pick herself up. Pierce wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her with a back suplex, dropping her hard on her neck. He was smiling maliciously as the woman began to rise to her feet, already savoring his next move. A neckbreaker, simple and right to the point. Unfortunately, not enough to get the win.
- It was only a matter of time though, as Manning looked in full control now. He scored a couple more near falls with moves like his patented rotating belly to back suplex side slam and a quick DDT, but they only served at weakening Darcy. The win came with his TBTM (rope assisted piledriver), definitely a boost of confidence after a difficult time of his career.
WINNER: Pierce Manning BY: Pinfall (TBTM), 7:31 |
Tag Team Match
Bree Smith & Gabriel Landry VS Karen Eldon & Rainer Nordhagen
- The match started with a despicable, yet not surprising, early attack from Karen and Rainer, taking down the opponents with two simultaneous cheap shots. With the opponents down, the pair began to stomp the crap out of them, eventually disposing of Bree and Gabe and booting them under the bottom ropes.
- Order was restored and the match officially started. Despite Rainer constantly bending the rules, Gabriel took the lead, mostly thanks to a beautiful handspring cutter. The former Academy student, who still has a guaranteed title shot to use between now and May, wasn’t going easy on his long-time rival, blasting him with hard kicks to the ribs. Rainer was on the ropes, laying against them visibly in pain. For Gabriel, this was a golden opportunity to send him tumbling on the outside but Nordhagen ducked and launched him over the top rope, laughing as he crashed on the floor outside. And Karen laughed too.
- As soon as Rainer tagged Karen in, Gabe backed down in his corner, choosing to let Bree deal with the Lockdown champion. Was it just a courtesy toward his partner who had unfinished business with Eldon or did he feel uncomfortable in fighting his ex? Either way, Smith was now legal and this wasn't good news for Karen. The Breebarian was pissed, clearly still not over the way she lost her title to the blonde, and that “Where’s Olly?” she mocked Karen with after powerbombing her into the canvas was proof of that.
- A rough night for the champ, who barely got any move in, unable to find a counter to Bree’s overwhelming power. Smith was having a great time, tossing and throwing the Lockdown champion all over the ring, or squashing her with a splash in the corner. But if we learned something about her is that she should never be counted out, and even tonight, even in a moment of great difficulty like this, she was able to find a way out, nailing Bree with a DDT after biting her arm.
- Rainer’s freshness turned the tides back in his team’s favor, at least at first. With a facebreaker, Nordhagen went very close to the win, but Gabriel managed to make the last minute save. Unfortunately, the momentum was about to shift once again after Bree made the tag to Gabriel. Landry and Smith worked together like a well oiled machine, which was surprisingly seeing how this was their first time as a team. The Breehemoth wrapped her arms around her own partner and launched him backward with a German suplex. Landry corrected his trajectory mid-flight to land on his feet, or rather with a double foot stomp on Rainer’s chest.
- The Junior Heavyweight champion survived various pinning predicaments, and eventually found the opening to hit Gabe with a stunner. With the opponent down, Rainer mercilessly took a run and punt-kicked him in the head, leaving him on the floor. Karen begged him to make the tag, seeing an opportunity to get a win over her weakened ex-boyfriend. Nordhagen nodded and the tag was made. But that was when things took an unexpected turn. As soon as she stepped in the ring, Karen KISSED her daughter’s boyfriend. Everyone was, rightfully, shocked, including Rainer himself who stood there in total confusion. Landry, of course, was rattled to the core. On his knees, he was just staring at Karen, a million thoughts racing through his mind. Eldon took a few steps toward him, slapped him on the face and connected her running knee to the face. Gabriel didn’t even try to avoid the telegraphed Can I Speak To Your Manager, frozen on the spot in utter shock. Karen hooked his leg and made the cover, Rainer snapped out of it just in time to prevent Bree from breaking up the pin.
WINNER: Karen Eldon & Rainer Nordhagen BY: Pinfall (Can I Speak To Your Manager?), 10:08 |
MWE World Championship Cage Scramble Qualifier Match Round 1: One Fall Match Andrew Raynes VS Tiffany Lynn-Page
- The first qualifier match of the night saw the returning former Chicago Way champion Andrew Raynes taking on a former tag champion in Tiffany Lynn-Page. The Primadonna would have loved nothing more than to advance to the next round and keep the dream of entering the scramble with her boyfriend Duke Andrews alive. But to do that, she had to go through Raynes first, and that was far from an easy task.
- The Embracer Of Hate took the early lead, forcing Page in the corner and mounting on the second rope. He then hit her with sledgehammer-like elbows to the crown of the head, hitting four of those before Tiffany was able to slip between his legs and get out of the corner. Raynes dropped down off the ropes and turned around, charging at Lynn-Page for a clothesline but eating a knee to the mush instead. Tiffany followed with a roundhouse, knocking him down.
- Duke’s girlfriend built some good momentum, culminating with the PAWG (cartwheel into a backflip kneedrop, but Andrew popped his shoulder up in time. She went to drag him up to his feet and tried to send him in the corner with an Irish whip but Raynes reversed it. Tiffany grabbed the ropes, performing a handstand to avoid the charging opponent and land behind him. Andrew quickly turned around and charged again but Tiffany took him down with a dropkick to the knee.
- Raynes wasn’t letting anyone get in the way of his triumphant return. Grabbing the opponent by the back of the head, he smashed her face onto his knee with a facebreaker, following with a knee drop to the downed opponent. He then grabbed her feet, raised her legs and stomped her chest before falling back and launching her into the turnbuckle with a catapult.
- While Raynes was dominating this part of the match, Tiffany was the one who actually got close to the win with the Prima Donna (chick kick). A good (or bad, depending on who you ask) positioning saved Raynes, who just had to raise his arm and grab the rope to break up the pin. But in the end, he was the one who got his arm raised thanks to his new finishing maneuver, a leaping STO called Shattered Glass.
WINNER: Andrew Raynes BY:Pinfall (Shattered Glass), 10:42 |
Singles Match
Kenzie Garrett VS Tiana Petrova-Hammond
- The Intercontinental champion walked into this match full of confidence, but it was clear from the first minutes that this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park for Kenzie. Tiana got the early lead as she took the champ down with an armdrag. As Garrett tried to stand up, Petrova-Hammond immediately switched to a front facelock, driving her knee to the opponent’s head. Kenzie managed to push her back, buying herself a moment to recover. Tiana charged back in but a jumping knee to the face stopped her on her tracks.
- A striking contest wasn’t exactly what one would expect out of these two, but this seemed to be the playing field they chose to battle in, at least in the first part of the match. On paper, this was favoring Tiana, her calf kicks were keeping the opponent on the defensive. A push kick shoved Kenzie into the ropes, and the champion was able to use that momentum to put force behind her jumping forearm smash that sent the russian-american stumbling back. Garrett followed with a running crossbody, obtaining a near fall.
- Kenzie kept pushing, using her speed to try surprising the opponent with flash pins, but Tiana showed great presence of mind, alway kicking out well in advance. The Geek Gladiator then planted the former Academy student with a half-and-half suplex, but not even that was enough to keep Tiana down.
- The first ever Gold Star needed to find a way to slow down the pace and keep Kenzie grounded. She saw an opportunity when Garrett climbed to the post and jumped with her cannonball senton called Pinball Wizard, moving out of the way at the last second to watch her crash on the canvas. Wasting no time, Tiana wrapped her up with the Fight Lab Calf Crush, but Garrett was able to reach the ropes and force the break before any real damage was done.
- Tiana kept working on the leg with various submissions, but the IC champion wasn’t going to give up. After escaping another leg lock, Garrett pushed herself up with the help of the ropes, preparing herself for Tiana’s upcoming attack. The Russian-American lunged in trying to grab the leg but Kenzie raised the other leg, kicking her in the head and pushing her back. She left the ring and prepared herself for a springboard attack, dodged by Petrova-Hammond. The Soulknife landed on her feet, but the leg Tiana had worked on gave up and she stumbled forward, right into the Gold Star Standard (roundhouse kick). Tiana made the cover, picking up a huge win over the Intercontinental champion.
WINNER: Tiana Petrova-Hammond BY: Pinfall (Gold Star Standard), 11:00 |
We then head backstage to the locker room that is empty save for one man, Seth Iser. He’s dressed in a variation of his black and purple wrestling attire with the usual black trench coat. And with a calmness etched on his face and his arms crossed he just seems at peace at the moment. He just opens his eyes and eyeballs the camera that’s walked into the locker room in an attempt to get a word with him.
Seth Iser: Why don’t you knock rather than sneak around like that?
He just asks that question with the slightest hint of annoyance creeping up on his voice but doesn’t get up from his chair. He closes his eyes in a brief thought.
Seth Iser: I see Pierce was more motivated than usual tonight…hell, maybe I’ll get my answer about him later but he’s not the topic of conversation at the moment. There’s plenty of time for that…but you Tiff? Our rubber match is tonight.
There’s a semblance of a smirk creeping onto his face as he stays content to sit on the chair as he’s thinking about things, even twirling his left index finger in his beard for a moment.
Seth Iser: You finally regained your will to fight. Took you long enough…I was wondering when you’d snap out of your hesitation. But…I don’t think you ever conquered your greatest weakness. A bit of a shame in that really…but you’re still young. Maybe you figure that part out, maybe you don’t. But whether the people cheer or boo me…like me, don’t like me. Hate me or revere me…they do respect me. Some even fear me and that does go hand in hand with respect. And part of that is…doing things my way without a care for the court of public opinion. It’s a form of insecurity.
A frown then creeps on the veteran’s face as ponders this through.
Seth Iser: You and the Mannings have that in common even if you go about that weakness differently…no wonder Megan hates you. I think she sees herself in you…and can’t stand it. Funny how that works…
The frown then fades away and there’s a light chuckle almost as if that thought amused him rather than trying to make a joke.
Seth Iser: But Tiff…kid, I remember what happened at the pay per view. You retained the Cloud Gate Championship…against me. Viva La Revolucion 2019 night 1. You kicked out of the DDT and then had to dig deep within yourself and dove off the top rope and hit that damn Thrillkiller. On that night you retained your championship and you pulled even with me…
A frown creeps back onto Iser’s face recounting all that information as he stands up. That particular defeat still bothers him.
Seth Iser: I remember that night far too well…and I hate it. It was a black mark against me at the time…one I can’t even fully correct now. But my old football coach’s advice back when I was a young kid popped into my head. You learn a line from victory…and a book in defeat. And I learned…oh yes this old man learned. Hell, I won the biggest prize in two companies since our last meeting…and we’ve both had to fight our fair share of demons. More learning experiences. Then father time tried to come calling for me thinking those injuries would claim me…and I made father time tap out. I’m a better wrestler now than I was when I faced you then. Can you safely assume the same as you’re just now starting to tap into that will again?
The sneer is in full place, the peace you saw when he was at the beginning is gone, as if he’s channeling some old bitterness.
Seth Iser: Maybe you can…especially with one burden free of you at long last. But I’ve replayed that night far too often in my head. I conceded you beat me then, shook your hand even. But I have my own point to prove…that someone at my age can be even better than he ever was at what people thought was his peak. And all this’ll be for you…is another hard lesson learned in defeat. A new book for you to read from…
And with that Iser leaves the area saying what he needs to have said and then leaving.
MWE World Championship Cage Scramble Qualifier Match Round 1: One Fall Match Luna VS Anna Daniels
- The first big news was that West Long wasn’t in Luna’s corner. The Star Of The Night didn’t walk to the ring alone though, getting accompanied by the Riot Champion Clyde Sutter instead. Is that part of the deal she struck with Tiffany in India? And what about the Warwolf? Anna didn’t look impressed with the change, or worried about Clyde’s presence at ringside. And in all fairness, Sutter seemed more worried about potential outside interferences rather than trying to be a distraction for The Muse.
- Luna started the match with the right foot, surprising Daniels with some Krav Maga combinations and scoring the first near fall of the match with the Upgrade (two knee strikes followed by an overdrive neckbreaker). It was barely a two, but Luna still felt like the referee was too slow and protested his decision.
- The Star Of The Night’s attempt to strike Anna down with the Starstorm fell short as the Muse dodged the discus spinning roundhouse. Moving behind the former Lockdown champion’s back, Anna hooked the opponent’s arms and lifted her for a tiger suplex. She followed with a second one, ending the trifecta with the Australian suplex. It was the Threeish Doctors, and it marked the turning point of the match.
- Luna seemed at the mercy of Daniels, struggling to stay in the match as the Time Lord kept chalking up two counts. The closest to the decisive three came with Sombras Que Corta (neckbreaker cutter), from which Luna barely managed to kick out.
- It wouldn’t be an Anna match without the Dalek showing up with the intent of EXTERMINATE! the Time Lord. The fans were waiting for it to roll out of the curtain and welcomed it with a decent pop. Sutter stood in his way, wanting to stop the overgrown tin can from doing any damage in this match. Anna got distracted by what was going on outside the ring as she was about to jump on Luna with her Cake Or Death?, giving the Star Of The Night the chance to counterattack. A punch to the ribs almost caused Daniels to fall to the outside, but the Time Lord managed to hang on and sat on the turnbuckle. Luna set her up for the Dark Side Of Luna (cheeky nandos kick), but it wasn’t enough to get the three. Dalek eventually got past Sutter, blinding him with its infamous hot juice to the eyes. This time it was Luna who got distracted and Daniels took advantage of the situation, catching the former champion in a cobra clutch triangle choke. The name of this submission, The Dark Side Of The Moon: Remastered was very similar to Luna’s move, but unlike it, it was successful.
WINNER: Anna Daniels BY: Submission (The Dark Side Of The Moon: Remastered), 11:52 |
The scene opens up in a modest apartment bedroom. After a moment out walks Alex Andrews into the shot. She puts a couple items away and then sits on the corner of the bed, facing the camera. She gives the camera a serious look.
Alex Andrews : This is a big moment for me, isn't it? In for a chance in a qualifier match up against a former MWE World Champion. Yeah, no pressure, right?
Alex brushes a lock of hair behind her ear as she continues.
Alex Andrews : I've had one heck of a year, haven't I? Had a pretty dominant run as the MENTV Champion, successfully beat Pierce Manning and grinded him into a halt. I would say I did pretty good as the Riot Champion too, if I might say so. All in all, I would say no did pretty well for myself. I showed up and showed out. No one takes the name Alex Andrews for granted any more. But this...
She waves causally in front of herself.
Alex Andrews : Is a bit different, it's a whole 'nother level, right? To even be in the picture, in the running for the MWE World Championship is a big deal for me. I get it, I understand the pressure and the esteem that comes with that title. I know I have my work cut out for me here too. I know what Melissa Reeves has done and no one can deny her accolades. No one. But this is big for me. I'm not say it's "do or die" but it's close. And I can't tell you how badly I want this. Especially to be the one to pick up that title after my friend Lowri had to give it up would be awesome. I know I might be a bit of a dark horse in this, but stranger things have happened. And you know what, World Champion Alex Andrews isn't such a far out idea, now is it? In case you didn't know, I am a reigning and defending Grand Champion myself. I know what it takes to beat former World Champions, I can dig pretty darn deep. I. Can. Do. This.
Alex flashes a smile at the camera and nods before standing up and walking out of the room.
Singles Match
Seth Iser VS Tiff
- David versus Goliath. The size difference between the two competitors was impressive for those watching at home, but not for Tiff. She had been there before, twice. Sure, that was a long time ago, and a lot changed since that night in 2019. For both of them.
- A very aggressive opening for the former Cloud Gate champion, hitting the veteran with a flurry of kicks to the legs. Seth had his share of nagging knee injuries throughout his career, and even in recent times. Tiff seemed to know that and targeted his left leg, connecting some stiff kicks that caused the veteran to buckle. Rollins tried to hit him again but this time Seth blocked the kick and took her down with a dragon screw leg whip.
- Almost specularly, Iser started targeting the opponent’s right leg, looking to take away the Death Kick from her. Very methodical in his offense, Wrestling’s Greatest Mind alternated kicks and stomps with painful submissions. A knee drop to the leg right into a figure four leglock caused Tiff to scream in pain, but she refused to tap out and struggled, eventually managing to grab the bottom rope.
- The momentum changed once again when Rollins managed to duck a lariat from Seth and chop him down to his knees with a sharp kick to the hamstring. Wasting no time, she smashed his face with the Peacemaker, a tribute to her uncle Andreas Lasiewicz. The move itself wasn’t enough to get the three, but it surely left Iser dazed. She tried to capitalize on it with the Death Kick but the former MWE World champion dodged the superkick to the head.
- Credit where it’s due, Rollins was surely giving the man a run for his money. After a cannonball senton in the corner, Tiff jumped on his chest with a double foot stomp, knocking the wind off his lungs. The referee’s hand stopped a inch away from hitting the mat a third time, and only because Iser got his foot on the bottom rope.
- As Tiff came charging in, Seth pushed her in the air and slammed her on the canvas with a pop-up powerbomb, pinning her to the mat. She kicked out in two but Seth quickly transitioned into an ankle lock, trying to make her tap out. She managed to break free but as soon as she got up to her feet, she was met with a kick to the stomach and a Deprivation DDT. A tough break for the Five Foot Death Machine, coming at the end of an incredible performance. But like Iser said, every defeat is a chance to learn.
WINNER: Seth Iser BY: Pinfall (Deprivation DDT), 15:08 |
It’s after Tiff and Seth Iser put on a show for the Atlantic City crowd...
Pierce Manning: Ahem...
The familiar voice of Pierce Manning can be heard. Takes a moment for the crowd (and Seth) to realize Pierce Manning is shown on the tron, somewhere backstage. All eyes divert to him. He is still shirtless. Hasn’t put on a suit between the time his match ended and now.
Pierce Manning: Seth, you want my official answer, huh? Before I put this matter to rest, I have a story I wish to tell. December 25th, 2021 was one of the worst days of my life. Eleven months ago I lost MY Riot Championship to Alex Andrews. I was the Face of Riot, I was on a goddamn high. That girl beat me... she... beat. Me. Still upsetting to admit that. Oh well. Shit happens.
“ wasn’t going to allow that loss to eat me alive. No. I decided I wanted something bigger. I wanted the respect I felt I was entitled to. Call me a traditionalist, shouldn’t being a two time Riot Champion, the last Invitcus Champion, putting on performances of a lifetime would be enough to inch me closer to what I earned. A shot at the World Championship. Of course not.
Pierce scoffs.
Pierce Manning: I’m not Angelica Jones who just waltzed in here to get HANDED an opportunity to challenge for the World Championship. I’m not Glory Braddock, a woman I have beaten twice by the way, she was handed a chance to try to dethrone Duke and BROOKFORD. Damn right I am not Queen Lowri Moss..
Pierce rolls his eyes.
Pierce Manning: -- we praise Lowri freaking Moss. Yet, every time she asked to not be included in tournaments, like the one for the Cloud Gate Championship. Yes Queen. Or a number one contenders match she asked to be removed from. Yes, Queen, we’ll honor your request. She didn’t even have the guts to at least lose the championship on the way out, her mental health issues were too goddamn a much. Queen Lowri got what she wanted, again. Oh fucking no, I expect to get one shot. Just one. We can’t give Pierce what he wants? This company can’t come up with a reason that makes sense. Oh fucking well.
Pierce flashes two middle fingers for the camera. He takes a moment to take a deep breath.
Pierce Manning: Anyway... as I was saying. All of this frustration boiling over for eleven months made me realize... MWE doesn’t give a damn about me. This company never did. Normally I wouldn’t give a damn. Take into account I was never my father’s favorite child. I love my sister. Doesn’t change the fact she is number one in my family! Every company I have wrestled for, it didn’t matter how well I did, has treated me like a second class citizen. No respect on my goddamn name. At all. Overlooked for the Billy Danielson’s. The returning asshats like The Sandstorm Inc guy. Or Constinine who can show up after being a massive flake. World title opportunity right? How else do you expect me to feel, huh? Am I supposed to bend over and accept this mistreatment? Am I not allowed to hold the belief Elsa and Moretti are no different then my father? Seth, you’re probably worse than my dear ole daddy.
Pierce sneers.
Pierce Manning: You are condescending. You are an arrogant prick! You are so goddamn cold, Seth. All of this is just one big game to you. Did you care about me at all? Did you just let me tag along cause I am the man in Megan’s life? Would you have taken me under your wing if it wasn’t for my relationship with her? Will I get the respect from management? I’ve given up on that. No one in the locker room except Megan will put respect on my name. I’ve conceded that point. The person whose respect I need more than anyones... is mine!
Pierce pauses, allowing that rare admission of vulnerability to sink in. He composes himself enough to complete what he has to say.
Pierce Manning: The only way I am going to respect myself is if I am the one who officially accepts your challenge. There. Your answer. It’s going to be me and you... dad!
Pierce spits at the camera with massive vitriol.
MWE World Championship Cage Scramble Qualifier Match Round 1: One Fall Match Alex Andrews VS Melissa Reeves
- One of, if not the, most highly anticipated qualifier match, two fan favorites colliding in what could potentially be the match of the night. The atmosphere was electric, the fans cheering for their favorite in an almost 50/50 split situation. The two competitors met in the center of the ring, shaking hands before starting the match with a collar and elbow tie up. Jockeying for position, they traded holds trying to get the early upper hand, giving way to a long chain-wrestling sequence that saw Reeves taking the opponent down with an armdrag.
- After the technical exchange, they switched to a more direct approach, trading strikes back and forth. Andrews got some momentum going as she managed to string together an interesting combination of forearm and knee strikes, forcing Mel into the ropes. Once again though the Australian’s experience came into play as she baited the opponent into going for her Elysium (running bicycle kick), stepping out of the way at the last moment. Alex’s leg hit nothing but thin air, ending up resting on the top rope. With a swift sweep kick, Reeves took her down and jumped on her chest with a double foot stomp, obtaining a count of two.
- Reeves looked in control but it didn’t last long. Just when she went for the Reaver Slam, Alex slipped away from her grasp and quickly countered with the Broken Wings (backstabber). Andrews immediately made the cover but Mel kicked out in two. The fight continued with Alex trying to build some momentum with a combination of rights and lefts but Mel interrupted her with a quick jab to the jaw. Mel insisted with some chops but the former Riot champion caught her with a knee to the stomach and followed with a scissors kick. With Mel down, she tried another pinning predicament with the Mouse Trap, but Mel kicked out.
- A beautiful exploder suplex by the Australian sent Alex flying into the corner. Still a bit dazed, the former Riot champion stood to her feet and rested against the turnbuckle, hoping to catch a quick break. Reeves had other plans and blasted her with a running forearm strike and quickly put her in a headlock, dragging her to the center of the ring where she planted her with a fisherman DDT.
- Alex’s toughness was never in question, but seeing her kick out from the Facial Deconstructor still left the fans shocked. Not Mel though, she patiently waited for the opponent to get up to hit her with the Magnitude Nine.. That was when she saw out of the corner of her eye Miki’s entrance video playing on the tron. Confused about why she would be walking out, Mel turned her attention to the entrance stage. The Newark native didn’t exactly come out; she was literally launched down the ramp by RAZE and Olly, who looked particularly proud of their action. Mel was livid, but she knew she had to focus on the match. It was too late already as Alex, who likely hadn’t seen what just happened, quickly rolled her up and picked up the win. Her celebration only lasted a few seconds, just the time she needed to realize why she was able to catch Reeves off guard. She immediately apologized, helping Mel up to her feet. Reeves listened to her apology and explanation, but her focus was obviously on The Division.
WINNER: Alex Andrews BY: Pinfall (Roll-Up), 15:22 |
As the feed comes back from the commercial, we find the Millennium General manager Elsa McCarthy standing in the ring. Vincent Moretti is there as well but, unlike this counterpart, he doesn't have a microphone in his hand. The hostess smiles as the camera closes up on her, beginning to speak.
Elsa McCarthy: The Five Year Anniversary show is coming up quickly and I don't need to tell you how great a milestone that is for us. In an ever-changing landscape like the business we all love, with company coming and going in the span of mere months, going on hiatus and coming back, we have been a constant for five long years, providing you with some of the greatest action and greatest names you ever saw.
A spontaneous round of applause echoes in the Arena, the fans chanting "MWE! MWE!" on top of their lungs.
Elsa McCarthy: As you know, this company was born from the ashes of Pride Pro, thanks to an intuition of Chuck Matthews. Millennium Wrestling Enterprise survived the fall of GWA, it survived an adventurous change of property when Grace van Beek took over and, against the expectations of many doubters, turned it into the juggernaut we all know and love now. Together, we toured this country, then we toured the world. We went through a pandemic, helping each other through those difficult times. We opened a wrestling school that already brought into the spotlights some talented wrestlers, and more are training as we speak, getting prepared by our staff to become future stars.
A mumbling could be heard coming from some sections of the Arena, as they read an eulogy in the General Manager's words. In reply to them, Elsa continues.
Elsa McCarthy: No, we're not closing. And I'm not here to announce another change at the helm either. All this is just to say that we believe...
She quickly turns to Moretti who nods his head in agreement.
Elsa McCarthy: After five years we believe it's time to open the MWE Hall Of Fame!
Another roar erupts from the crowd. Alena and Jenny at commentary state how MASSIVE this news is, immediately starting to speculate who will be inducted.
Elsa McCarthy: There was a long discussion about who should be in this first class. We always had a big roster, and that leaves us with a number of alumni who definitely deserve a spot here for the mark they left in our company. It wasn't easy to select four names among the dozens, but we're happy to announce the first MWE Hall Of Famer...
Of course she paused, building some suspense.
Elsa McCarthy: REBECCA SAINT!!
The pop for the former Lockdown champion was absurd. As they say, gone but not forgotten.
Elsa McCarthy: We already invited Rebecca to the Five Year Anniversary show and she confirmed her presence. One more reason for you guys to get your ticket and join us in Chicago on November 27th...
The chant for Rebecca is still going, forcing Elsa to take a break. Once the fans calmed down, she continued.
Elsa McCarthy: She's not the only inductee, of course, but she's the only one we're announcing today. The next names will be revealed on Riot and on the next Millennium. Thank you for your time and enjoy the main event of the evening.
With the fans still going ballistic, Elsa and Vincent left the ring. Rumchata Ayano, instead, stepped in, announcing the only known competitor in the main event.
MWE World Championship Cage Scramble Qualifier Match Round 1: One Fall Match Faith Savell VS TBA
- Standing in the ring, Masterclass was waiting to find out who her opponent, and final entrant in the Championship Scramble Qualifier will be. Speculations have been running wild all week, trying to guess who the mysterious entrant may be. BROOKFORD, Gareth Prichard Jr, the return of Gavin Grimes and Anastasia Starling were some of the names thrown around on social media. The answer was less fancy, but not any less fascinating. “Cult Of Personality” blasted out of the loudspeakers and, three months and half after that night of July, Glory Braddock made her return to MWE.
- Faith wasn’t impressed and taunted the Best In The World by asking her if she was ready to take another loss from a Savell, after Julian beat her for the Briefcase. Glory’s answer was immediate, a punch to the throat that cut Faith’s speech short, leaving her breathless. The British Bombshell then delivered a flurry of knife edge chops and whipped the Masterclass into the ropes, running after her and hitting her with a kitchen sink knee.
- Like her or not, the young Savell surely had earned the Masterclass nickname with strong performances in the ring, ever since her days in the Academy. Glimpses of her absolute talent were on full display even tonight, even against a sixteen times world champion. A quick movement to avoid Braddock’s roundhouse kick and put herself in position for a tiger suplex, ending her offense with a running shooting star press that earned her a two count.
- Even on the mat, Faith could hold her own against the Best In The World. For every hold Gloria applied, Savell had a counter, although the same thing could be said the other way around. This meant that this long phase didn’t see anybody coming out on top, but it was surely fun to watch for the fans. In the end, both women were standing up to their feet, glaring at each other.
- Another lock up, but this time Savell was quick to shift into a headlock takedown. Braddock was just as quick to get up to her feet and break free, pushing the opponent into the ropes and catching her with a leg lariat on the rebound. A furious series of stomps from Braddock looked a lot like a much needed release of a lot of pent up frustration accumulated in the months away from a MWE ring and, perhaps, before that too. Faith was still laying down in pain when Gloria ascended to the top rope and jumped onto her with the London Plunge (swan dive headbutt), worth a two count.
- Whenever she had some room to use her speed and agility, Faith proved that she could be a true thorn on Gloria’s side. The Faith No More (inverted DDT) almost crushed Braddock’s hope to qualify for the Cage Scramble, leaving Faith baffled when she kicked out. The Year One Valedictorian was quick to shake it off and went to pick her up, attempting The Masterclass (double underhook piledriver). Glory countered it, sending the young opponent flying over her back.
- The British Bombshell took back control with the Beautiful Insanity DDT, planting Faith on her skull. She then tried to wear her down with some holds, but once again Savell gave proof of her ability finding a way out of them. Even when Glory caught her with the Shekinah Glory (triangle choke) the former Academy Student was able to slip out of it, saving herself.
- The match ended with some controversy and no, that wasn’t because Julian, Olly or anyone from the Division showed up. Savell came once again close to the win with her Masterpiece (630 senton), but Glory somehow kicked out in time. A minute later, though, she fell victim of The Glorification (unprettier) and got counted down to three, even though her foot was on the ropes. Her protest didn’t do any good, the decision was final. Glory Braddock advanced to the second round.
WINNER: Glory Braddock BY: Pinfall (The Glorification), 18:31 |
