3x04 THE NIGHT BEFORE
The Gym
October 26th, 2022
3:18 PM
In the gym at the academy, Clementine is currently showing off her old gymnastics moves to her guest and visitor; Gabriella Smith. Gabby is dressed in a very orange zip up hoody with a white t-shirt on underneath paired with some stretchy jeans and black boots. Clementine, as you’d expect, had on her Academy gym clothes and she was showing Gabby how she’d do the pull ups to make her upper body strong for those high momentum movements in gymnastics.
Gabriella Smith:
Wow. Does everyone work out this hard?
Clementine then dismounts with a sigh and gets handed her water bottle by Gabby.
Clementine Smith:
Kinda. I think. It depends on person to person.
Clementine shrugs and then spots just past Gabby’s head her team leader walk past so she calls out.
Clementine Smith:
Helena!
The Team Leader seems caught in her own thoughts, not even hearing Clementine at first. The second time around, the former Liberty champion finally notices her student.
Helena Noir:
Hello Clementine. Are you showing off to your guest?
The swede asks, flashing a quick smile at the duo. Gabby flashes a quick, almost false smile back while Clementine gives the genuine one, and already gets a little flustered.
Clementine Smith:
I just wanted to say thanks for letting me make up for my fumble last time, wait you asked me about my guest….yes…she’s my cousin. Gabby. Gabby, Helena. Helena Gabby.
Gabriella Smith:
Hi.
Gabby says with a quick, basic flail of her hand. Helena reciprocates the gesture, but her focus obviously goes back to her student.
Helena Noir:
Fumble? You didn’t fumble at all, Clem. You fought hard, you gave everything you had. That was all I could ask you to do.
Taking a step forward, Helena places her hand on Clementine’s shoulder.
Helena Noir:
You came here to learn, and you came with the right attitude. A loss is never a failure, even less at this point of your career. It’s a chance to learn and improve.
Clementine Smith:
Thanks. I definitely rewatched what happened…admittedly when there’s that many people it’s hard to keep track and be aware. Is that like something that ever goes away when you’re in a match with that many opponents?
Noir takes a second to think about the answer.
Helena Noir:
It’s not easy, even veterans of the business sometimes lose track of what’s happening in the ring, and usually that’s their downfall. Focus and ring awareness are skills you can and will improve with time.
Clementine takes that in, letting out a small sigh of relief.
Clementine Smith:
I hope so. I’m definitely aspiring to hold that gold star but I’ve been working hard with Scotty in classes to try and win it for the team. It’s my first tag match but, correct me if I’m wrong, it’s a lot like gymnastics. We do our best when we’re up. We train together as a team for the big day, we work together to win. No points here but so far, besides Luna and Dean, everyone in my family who’s wrestling has been tag champion-
Gabriella Smith:
Like Honey, a mult-tag champion
Clementine Smith:
I don’t want to bomb in the tag team scene…given they all take to it like a duck to water.
The mention of Honey brings a smile to Helena’s face.
Helena Noir:
That’s exactly what we are doing here. Being able to adapt to different partners is something that can be very useful, even if you pursue a singles career. General Managers are known to book tag matches to spice things up a bit, often pairing rivals together. It’s up to you to make the best of every opportunity you get. Like your cousin Honey did.
Clementine Smith:
Honey is definitely a HIGH, HIGH Bar to leap over. I don’t know if I can catch up to her. But she’s a great role model to follow, at least for me. But I do want to do everything I can to be a really shining star here. Do you have any notes for me to focus on? Just in case my rookie brain missed something that could trip me up again. Problem areas, whatever you think.
After a moment of silence, Helena finally speaks.
Helena Noir:
Keep an eye on your partner. I know you trust Scott and I saw you training together this week. But sparring and a competitive match are two different things, and unfortunately, I don’t think he should get in the ring. He’s injured, whether he wants to admit or not he’s far from 100%. The weight of the team will be mostly on your shoulders, but I believe in you, and so does Scott. You got this, Clem.
Helena says, patting her student’s back and walking away.
Clementine Smith:
Thanks!
She sighs, internalising the fact she’s got to have some broad shoulders come show day.
Gabriella Smith:
Here.
Gabby says pulling out a chocolate bar she’d bought before coming to the academy. Clem breaks off the top four squares.
Clementine Smith:
So I think I got this. I may have to wrestle more than Scotty but I can do it. Cool cool cool cool cool cool…cool.
The Hallways
October 28th, 2022
12:52 PM
The scene opens in the hallway outside the dorms as Reign Reyes makes her way down the hall, narrowly avoiding people while her nose is buried in her phone.
Reign Reyes:
Excuse me. Pardon me. Sorry.
As Reign passes a particularly shadowed area of the hallway, a distinct Irish voice calls out, Saoirse Tyrell emerging from the darkness.
Saoirse Tyrell:
I told you I’d find you first.
Even through her thick accent the words felt cold, the woman’s dead, monotone voice enough to give anyone a chill down their spine. Reign stops dead in her tracks, sliding her phone away as she turns to face Saoirse.
Reign Reyes:
I always thought it was the champion who was the hunted. Guess you’re just exceptional all around…
Reign’s voice took on a faux Irish accent.
Reign Reyes:
…ain’t ya, luv?
Saoirse rolls her eyes at that, stepping into the light of the hallway properly now, her eyes staring daggers at the brash Reign.
Saoirse Tyrell:
In more ways than you could ever know. Now, hit me.
Her lips curl into an unnerving smile, the kind where it’s abundantly clear that there’s zero emotion behind it - almost as if she isn’t human at all. She turned her face slightly, offering her chin to Reign.
Saoirse Tyrell:
Hit. Me.
Reign smirks at the offering but thinks better of taking a shot at her chin, lest Saoirse be up to something. Instead Reign fakes the punch and then changes levels, swooping in for a double leg and dumping Saorise squarely on her back. Without pause, Reign maneuvers into a dominant position and begins raining down punches on the Gold Star Champion. Saoirse instinctively covers up, burying her face into her forearms as Reyes’ fists pummel into her guard with ferocity. Eventually most of the shots make it through her guard, fists raining down into her face. Almost in an instant Tyrell threw her legs up, catching Reign in an armbar, gaining control of the girl’s wrist, sitting back to apply torque with the intention of snapping Reyes’ arm. Before she can fully apply the necessary pressure with her hips however, Helena Noir spills into the both of them, dragging Reign to a relative level of safety.
Saoirse stays seated, raising her knees slightly, resting her forearms on them as she tastes the blood on her lips with a smirk. Security has surrounded them by this point, but they seem to know better than to touch Saoirse Tyrell, letting the young member of the Band of Nine rise to her feet on her own accord.
Reign is livid, her eyes on fire as she stares over at the seemingly emotionless Saoirse. Security has a firm grip on her but Reign is far from finished, all her anger from the previous week fighting to get out of her in the rage-filled outburst.
Reign Reyes:
You like the taste of your own blood, you fucking FREAK?! I’ll give you plenty more chances to taste it!!
Reign tried to lurch forward but felt a tinge of pain in the arm Saoirse had latched onto and realized that resisting security was pointless. Instead she just stares daggers through her nemesis, her chest heaving with anger. Saoirse takes the slightest step closer to Reign and by extension Helena, staring at her coach, then looking to Reign, spitting the blood accumulated in her mouth to the floor beside Reyes.
Saoirse Tyrell:
This is not over. I’ll see you soon...I will have that arm.
With that, Tyrell turns and walks away, disappearing back into the shadows, leaving Reign to contend with Helena and the mass of security. Not in the mood to talk, Reign shakes free from their grasp and storms off in the opposite direction, leaving Helena to sigh and shake her head as the scene slowly fades out.
