(OFF-CAMERA)
It was the guest house Brittany Kane lived in. She didn’t mind living in the guest house, it was spacious and had two bathrooms, three bedrooms and a huge kitchen. Of course the downside was she had to pay rent to her older brother, but she along with her pets had more space than they had ever had, and no lesbians to make her babysit while they made fuck. Yes, Britty had it well in San Dimas. She leaned back on her couch in the media room, one of the bedrooms that she had modified into a “woman cave” complete with posters of half nude firemen holding their hoses.
Literal hoses.
A bottle of fruit punch Body Armor was her drink of choice while the TV blared one of her favorite Twitch streamers, Dr. Lupo. It wasn’t uncommon at all for Britty to watch Dr. Lupo, or retweet him on her Twitter. Next to her was her laptop as she browsed the internet and giggled looking at some of her favorite websites. It was a good life for a 20 year old despite her what she may think. Her kitten, Booey, hopped up to take a lil’ nap next to her and get a few pets.
Britty: Oh hey there sweetie. Get some rest so we can get you a treat and cat nip later.
Booey had already settled in on the soft sofa. Britty began to bite her lip as she looked at a more adult website and sighed.
Britty: Yanno, Booey, it’s weird sometimes how we think about life. Like I should be happy. I got a nice guest house to myself, tons of awesome friends, pets like you and a good following in wrestling and on Twitch. And yet, it just feels hollow sometimes. I enjoy it here but I just feel like not having someone to enjoy it with sucks.
The cat remained sleeping while Britty droned on. She sighed again and closed her laptop.
Britty: You know what we need, Booey? A fun night out. Go somewhere, see some people and remind myself not to hop on the first person I see. Need to be serious about this no sex thing, yanno?
Naturally the cat doesn’t respond because it’s a fucking cat.
Britty: Be easier if I was 21 to get into clubs and stuff though. Kinda sucks. Just like less than seven months until I hit that milestone so that’s really cool.
The 20 year old stood up and stretched for a moment. She glanced out of the window in the room and smirked seeing her dogs run around. Britty sat back down and kicked back.
Britty: Man… if Dr. Lupo was single, I’d be throwing myself on that man. Jesus Christ what a daddy.
From behind Britty, Melissa Reeves cleared her throat.
Melissa: Want me to pretend I didn’t hear that?
She moved into the room, softly chuckling. Britty jumped into the air scared to death after hearing Mel’s voice. Naturally she didn’t expect that at all. Britty slowly got her heartbeat back to normal.
Melissa: I had been wondering what you were doing, I guess now I got my answer!
Britty tilted her head to keep an eye on Mel.
Britty: Please, take a seat, Mel. Got plenty of room!
She grinned and patted a seat. Not Booey’s spot, but a different one. The kitten opened her eyes for a moment to yawn but closed them again.
Britty: And please never repeat that. I mean… please? The guy has a wife and the most adorable baby boy. Not like I was, wow, I sound even worse right now, huh?
Mel laughed and shook her head.
Melissa: Oh sweetheart, you do worry sometimes. I won’t say anything.
She softly stroked down Booey’s side and looked around the room.
Melissa: Well I see you didn’t trash the place with a wild party whilst I was in the UK?
Britty: No, just kinda kept it low-key and hung out. Ordered a pizza one night. Cooked chicken wings another. Watched Dr. Lupo, movies, TV and all that stuff. Just pretty boring, honestly.
She sighed again. Britty glanced at Mel with a hint of sorrow in her eyes.
Britty: Would’ve been nice to have someone to share it with but it is what it is, I guess.
She half smiled and nodded.
Melissa: I know, Britty. I know. But this is how things are right now, so you have to just make sure you’re enjoying what you got. The rest? That’ll come later on.
She sighed.
Melissa: Like, think of it this way; if you love who you are then it’ll be easier for others to love you too. But if you don’t love you then how can anyone else?
Britty, being polite as she could, put the TV on mute to focus on Melissa instead of listening to Dr. Lupo yell about critical damage on a shotgun.
Britty: How can I love me, Mel? Just like, I’m super awful.
She paused for a moment as the sorrow turned to sadness..
Britty: I know we’ve talked about it before but most people I love die or just end up leaving me. Mom, grandpa, Freya and so many others. Like… it’s my fault Freya died, Melly. All my fault. If I hadn’t pressured him into having sex with me. I just, maybe, maybe she wouldn’t have overdosed and left her little girl.
A couple of tears fell.
Britty: I’m turning her little girl into me by making her go live with her grandparents. I’m helping our vicious cycle that kills people in my family before they have a chance to grow old, Mel...
Melissa moved to put an arm around Britty.
Melissa: Hey, hey...shh. Don’t cry. Freya was...a very troubled woman who didn’t take up help. It’s terrible that she’s gone and I really do feel awful for Tasha, but that’s not your fault. It’s not. She wouldn’t want you to hold yourself responsible, I don’t think.
She rubbed her hand across Britty’s shoulders.
Melissa: Not everyone will leave though. Chris hasn’t, has he? I haven’t, either…
Britty turned away from Mel for a moment.
Britty: Not yet. It’ll happen. You can big bro will break up at some point and I’ll be out a best friend again. At least you won’t choose a terrible mother over me…
She snorted in laughter if only for a second.
Britty: I feel cursed, Melly. I just feel cursed. Like no matter what I do, I’m going to fail or lose something. I walk around with a noose around my neck every day, fake a smile for people and pretend I’m okay because no one can show weakness in life anymore. Just sucks.
Melissa: Even if we ever did breakup, that’s not on you either. I definitely wouldn’t hold it against you. I mean...you know, I still talk to Cade sometimes. I still talk to Ash and she’s banging him. I don’t hold any grudges or whatever. I definitely wouldn’t hold anything between Chris and I against you. I promise.
She nodded.
Melissa: But curses are just a way to process bad stuff. Sometimes really bad things happen to really great people, but that doesn’t make it your fault.
Britty: I was put on this earth to cause misery, Mel. I honestly feel like that. I mean no matter what…
She stopped herself from going on and calmed herself.
Britty: I just want what you have, Mel. People like you. You have a wrestlemom. You have someone who loves you and wants to marry you. I have my pets, my Twitch channel and a dildo named Big Daddy.
Melissa laughed a little.
Melissa: Big daddy? Really? Look, I’ve had bad patches too, I have. Things are going...fairly well right now, but what I have is far from perfect. Chris is amazing and I’m lucky to have him, and people like Aurora do support me when I need it, but 90% of my life is on the road or training. I rarely see my friends, I rarely just have fun...it’s not perfect, I promise.
Britty put her head back to glare at the ceiling.
Britty: Still better than sitting alone every night hoping people just talk to you at all. You get to have conversations. You get to have someone cuddle you. I’m just a no good loser!
Mel thumped her arm. Not too hard, but enough to show her disagreement.
Melissa: No, no you’re not. You’re just having a rough time.
Britty: Yes, I am, Melly. And it’s okay. It really is. I can just be a loser for the rest of my life. So, I mean, I can just be a loser who collects pets for the rest of her life.
A few more tears fell.
Britty: I’m gonna to take a nap, I think.
Melissa: Okay.
Melisa lay beside her, pulling Britty into a hug whether she wanted it or not.
Melissa: Just rest, yeah?
Britty halfway pushed herself out of the hug feeling as if she was getting a pity hug.
Britty: Yeah. Maybe we’ll get lucky and I’ll pull a sleeping beauty and not wake up for a long time…
Melissa: Bad example, the story there is she eventually finds her happiness.
Britty: I guess you’re right. Thanks for listening, sis.
Britty smiled. Not a fake one this time. A real one. A real smile for someone she considered to be her best friend.
