2x25 THE PROUD AND THE DAMNED
The Gym April 29th, 2022 5:30 PM
A lot of thudding echoed through the gym, each in three to four hit combos followed by a brief pause, then another and another… Addison McKinley had been at it for a couple hours at this point, alternating between punches, kicks, knees, elbows on the heavy bag, then a quick sprint. To say that she was on edge would be an understatement.
She leaned against the swaying bag, dripping sweat and breathing hard. Yet determined, she pushed the bag away… Only to be rolled up from behind. She struggled, but her assailant managed to keep her shoulders down for three. She jumped to her feet to be met with her trainer, friend, probably father figure, Sean Bennington. He smirked at her, though she was angry. She lunged and he sidestepped, rolling her again for yet another three.
She stayed on the ground, glaring up at him as he tried his best to not burst out laughing.
Addison McKinley: Uncalled for. I’m busy. I don’t need another lesson from you right now.
He caught his composure and lowered himself to the ground, sitting across from her.
Sean Bennington: See, kid, that’s where you’re wrong. Your problem has always been that you think you know it all. That you can do it all. You got somethin’, a drive, a passion, you got the talent and the skill, but until you get it in your head that you can lose it all in a moment? Well, you just lost your two outta three falls to me in the span of ten seconds.
Addison McKinley: I’m exhausted and you snuck up on me.
Sean Bennington: You keep working out like this and you’ll be exhausted for your match too, and he’s already got one up on you because your body quit on you. At least, I’m hoping it was your body that quit and not your heart, because I didn’t train a quitter.
Addi sighed, falling back against the mat.
Addison McKinley: I hit E a bit ago, been coasting as far as I can ever since. They’re running me ragged, fucking with my head…
Sean Bennington: You want to walk around acting like you’re the best, you’re in a position to prove it. I don’t want to hear you’re tired, or banged up. Every wrestler in the history of the business has been tired or banged up. And honestly, your mouth and your disrespectful attitude put you in this situation. And despite all that, they’re proud of you.
Addison McKinley: I don’t care if they’re proud of me when I’m the one getting my ass kicked every week, pulling wins out of my ass on the regular.
Sean stood, though he didn’t stand alone. He dragged Addi up by her arm, forcing her up.
Sean Bennington: You’re still complaining. I thought you were “Captain Gold Star”, not “Whiny Little Bitch.”
In an instant, her hand was slapped across his face. He smirked.
Addison McKinley: Fuck you, Sean. You don’t get to walk in here and…
The slap was repaid in kind, knocking the Gold Star to the floor.
Sean Bennington: You want to piss it all away with this defeatist attitude, go right ahead, kid! You want to sit there feeling sorry for yourself because of your own actions, go right ahead, because maybe I did train a quitter. You quit on your father, you quit on Skylar and Peyton, and you’re about ready to quit now. What a damn shame, right at the finish line.
She stayed on the ground, watching as Sean walked his way to the exit.
Addison McKinley: I’m not quitting. I’ve never quit, everyone else has, but not me. I’m not letting Gabriel get another one over on me, I’m walking out as the Gold Star, I’m marching into the main show knowing that I AM BETTER THAN THE REST OF THE ACADEMY! Year one, year two, I AM BETTER.
She stood up, facing back toward the heavy bag.
Addison McKinley: So FUCK YOU for doubting me, FUCK THEM for setting me up to fail, and most of all? FUCK GABE FOR BEING THE LAST ONE IN MY WAY!
The thudding of combos started up again, intermixed with the door of the gym opening and closing. Addi was once again alone as the video cut out.
Diary Room May 1st, 2022 12:01 PM
Once again we join Gabriel Landry in the diary room. On this day he is wearing a plain white t-shirt instead of his trademark hoodie. He is also wearing denim blue jeans. He smiles for the camera.
Gabriel Landry: I have a question for you Addison. One I don’t expect an answer to for obvious reasons. Meh, I’ll ask away anyway. Are you tired?
Gabriel takes a deep breath allowing the audience to ponder the question Gabriel asked Addison.
Gabriel Landry: The chip you placed on your own shoulder since becoming the Gold Star Champion has to be weighing on you. If I was in your position I would consider it a blessing to defend the Gold Star Championship every show. Even if I win tonight, I won’t have a chance to defend it once. But for you, you see all the championship defenses as some form of punishment? Why? No one in the history of the Academy. Not Faith. Not Faizah. Not Tiana, were afforded the chance to go on this amazing run, instead of stopping the smell of the roses, you choose to carry this vendetta against the family of one of the trainers? The chip on your shoulder may have helped you get this far, Addison. But the day we graduate, you are not gonna have the big bad of the Lasiewicz family to rage against. Who will your enemy be on the main roster? Who is the next boogeyman you’re going to conjure up to stick it to?
Gabriel sighs. He shrugs his shoulders.
Gabriel Landry: I don’t want that burden. Professional wrestling is supposed to be fun. I almost let two trolls make me forget about that. Do you think it was fun for me knowing two people went out of their way to sideline my career before it began? No. Do you think I was jumping for joy after I beat you by the way... by count out? No. Wasn’t fun for me, but here I stand, centered, walking into this match with you knowing one way or another I either become the last Gold Star Champion or you complete your quest. Will it really be complete, Addison?
I can assure you, even if you win this match and “stick it” to the enemy you created, you’re gonna be the biggest loser of us all. You ruined one of your friendships because of a guy, you made the final days of your Academy run all about pettiness, this should be one of the best moments of your life. Instead, I see a miserable woman full of bitterness, rage, pettiness, it breaks my heart. Championship or not, you haven’t won a thing. Not really. You’re young, so it's not so late.
As for me, I don’t want to make the same mistake I made last time. I’ll break up the count this time. And hopefully win the championship. That would be nice too.
Gabriel smiles.
Gabriel Landry: If not, then it’s ok. I tried my best. I didn’t lose myself. I will have a best friend leaving this place, despite the ups and downs, I learned a lot. Lets give everyone watching a good show. Good luck.
Gabriel bows his head as the scene fades to black.
Singles Match
Jasper King VS Luis Rivera
- Luis Rivera has been on an undefeated streak since joining the Academy and he never missed a chance to remind everyone. Needless to say, that didn't help him making new friends around here. On the second to last show before graduation, the former boxer put his streak on the line against his biggest challenge to date, the first Gold Star Jasper King.
- At first, Luis's quick feet and reflexes allowed him to stay away from Jasper's grasp. The Caifornia native danced around the opponent and hit him with quick jabs to the face and kicks to the legs. He then tried to knock the big man off his feet with a clothesline, but the King Of Pumpkins barely staggered. Rivera went for a second and a third one, but King just didn't go down. On the fourth attempt, the first Gold Star caught the opponent and slammed him into the canvas with a spinebuster.
- King controlled the match, slowing down the pace and throwing the opponent from one side to the other of the ring. He easily lifted Luis over his head with a Gorilla Press and just let him fall face first on the canvas. Before Rivera could get up, Jasper jumped on him with a running senton.
- A powerbomb into the turnbuckle followed by a running big boot almost ended Luis' undefeated streak, but the former boxer showed great ring awareness by resting his foot on the bottom rope, interrupting the count at two and nine tenths.
- Luis had come a long way since joining the Academy, his progress were visible week after week although there was still room for improvement. He still had his punches to count on, and they were always a formidable weapon. Especially the right hook that gave him all his wins since joining the Academy. It hit King right on the side of the head and knocked him down, but Jasper icredibly kicked out of it.
- It was a hard blow to Luis' confidence. He seemed lost, unable to shrug that disappointment off and Jasper took full advantage of it. After collecting a few near falls, the King Of Pumpkins lifted the opponent for a sitout powerbomb. Lucho desperately punched him on the head and just tossed his weight backward, flipping Jasper over with a hurricanrana. Although not flawless, it was good enough to keep the big man down for the count of three.
WINNER: Luis Rivera BY: Pinfall (Hurrricanrana), 10:43 |
Singles Match
Devin Levandrier VS Rainer Nordhagen
- Despite his claims, Rainer actually showed up for the match, although his attitude and body language showed how little he cared about the match. Devin instead looked determined to turn things around and pick up that win in singles competittion he has been chasing for a while now. He came very close to it, and to beat Luis' record for the fastest win in the Academy history, with a superkick right off the gates. Nordhagen raised his shoulder just in the nick of time.
- Oddly enough, despite the downward spiral he apparently jas been stuck in, Devin showed once again that he was one fine wrestler. Perhaps, when it comes to cleanliness of execution, the best of the course. His suplexes were just flawless, though they weren't enough to keep Rainer down.
- Finally the German-Australian got out of the shell and began to actually put the work in. Granted, he had to rake Levandrier's eyes to create himself an opportunity to strike, but after that he delivered a swift forearrms and kicks combo, knocking the opponent down with a roundhouse kick.
- The two kids spent the next five minutes on the mat, trading holds and trying to get that edge on the opponent. A long and beautiful sequence at the end of which Devin managed to apply his trademark sharpshooter. Rainer quickly started clawing at the canvas, dragging himself to the ropes and quickly breaking up the submission.
- Nordhagen was able to block one of Devin's suplexes and took the Canadian down with a backstabber. He kept working on that part of the opponent's body with a series of knee drops to the lower back and a bow and arrow lock, showcasing his undoubted skills that often get overshadowed by his arrogant attitude.
- His cocky demeanor came out in the final moments of the match when, after spiking Devin with a DDT, he attempted to make a cover by resting the foot on his chest. Obviously Levandrier kicked out of it and immediately put Rainer in an ankle lock but the former Gold Star escaped it. The two met in the middle of the ring and began trading strikes. Nordhagen kicked the opponent on the leg and dropped him to one knee, perfectly positioned for his patented running knee strike that gave the blonde another win.
WINNER: Rainer Nordhagen BY: Pinfall (Running Knee Strike), 11:16 |
Gold Star Match 2/3 Falls Addison McKinley © VS Gabriel Landry
- Last obstacle on Addi's way to end the year as the Gold Star, last chance for Gabriel to crown his dream to finally get the title. There was a lot of pressure on both students, and perhaps a two out of three falls match was the perfect stipulation as it allowed room for one, minimal mistake. Surely that's how Gabe felt when, a little under a minute into the match, he got caught by Addi's victory roll into the first fall of the match. (McKinley 1 - Landry 0 0:54)
- The match immediately got on the right track for the champion. Wisely, she switched to a defensive approach, leaving the initiative to Gabe and exploiting the mistakes his urge to even the score inevitabily lead him to make. Another quick pinning predicament, a school boy, almost got the champion the second and decisive pinfall.
- Despite the huge risk he just took, Gabriel didn't slow down. He landed some hard kicks to the ribs and chest of the Gold Star and whipped her in the corner where he hit her with a double knees to the face. Addi went down and Landry went up, jumping onto her with a picture perfect moonsault. McKins pulled her knees up and quickly rolled him into another cover, once again getting extremely close to the three.
- Landry finally seemed to have learned his lesson. No more unnecessary risks and a much more reasoned approach characterized the second part of this match. He scored a near fall with a brainbuster, and a second one with a hurricanrana driver as Addi was getting to her feet.
- McKinley had to, once again, change her style to effectively counter Gabriel's game plan. She couldn't wait for him to leave an opening any longer, as Landry was way more careful not to leave himself exposed to her counterattacks. Showing great ability, Addison floored the opponent with a leaping knee and then hit him with that diving tornado DDT that became a sort of trademark for her and gave her so many wins throughout the year. Not this time, as Landry got his shouder up in time.
- Addison was producing her greatest effort to bring home the W, but a superkick from out of nowhere turned the tides. Landry looked at the downed opponent and ran toward her, leaping and flipping in mid air to land across her chest with a running shooting star press. The referee got in position and started the count, slamming his hand on the canvas three times without McKinley being able to kick out. (McKinley 1 - Landry 1 15:38)
- All bets were off now that any strategy got out of the window. Instinct and adrealine were driving the two young students, and that benefited the entertainment factor. Fast paced, back and forth action continued for several minutes, each of them went close to score that decisive pinfall, neither of them was willing to give up.
- Addison surprised the opponent with a quick roll-up but rather than pinning him, she rolled him through and followed with a brutal kick to the temple. She rushed on top of him and hooked both legs for the cover but Landry showed great ring awareness and grabbed the bottom rope with his hand.
- McKinley went with the roundhouse kick but Gabriel ducked it and picked her up in an electric chair. Another counter from Addi who planted Landry on his skull with a reverse hurricanrana. Gabe almost bounced to his feet, visibly dazed. Addison took aim and charged for a bicycle kick but Gabe moved out of the way and hooked both of Addi's arms. Not a regular backslide but a backslide driver pinned Addison's shoulders to the mat. The Gold Star kicked out from that as well, but it was a fraction of second too late. (McKinley 1 - Landry 2 24:02)
WINNER: Gabriel Landry (NEW GOLD STAR) BY: Pinfall 2-1 (Backslide Driver), 24:02 |
