It was later in the day when Andrew was finally going to be able to deliver his seminar. It was an unusual place for Andrew to be in, never in his seventeen years has he ever actually delivered a lesson to a classroom of rookies but given he was the reigning Chicago Way Champion, he was asked to deliver a seminar on the use of violence and weapons in a hardcore environment. Andrew knew that the lesson would go much deeper than that, this was about much more than just weapons and violence, it was a state of mind. He wasn’t looking for a flashy entrance into the seminar, he was already sitting down at the desk, the MWE Chicago Way Championship belt resting on the desk and facing towards the students so they could actually see it. Some of the students start making their way in, excited to see the Embracer of Hate sitting on the desk waiting for them, already looking impatient. He wasn’t thrilled about being there but having the chance to instill his own truth could help open the doors for some students who might have been on the edge or looking for a means of opening their own door to a new world. After a few moments, Andrew noticed it was time and didn’t want to waste a second and didn’t care for anyone who showed up afterwards.
Andrew Raynes:
I just want you all to know that I’m not going to waste much time here, I want you all to know that this is going to be short and sweet because I am going to make you understand that the hardcore world is more than simply the use of weapons in matches, it goes far beyond that. If you’re interested in understanding the true way of life behind hardcore then I would suggest you pay attention or else this was a waste of your time.
Andrew gets up slowly and paces around.
Andrew Raynes:
Have you ever asked yourselves if you’re willing to get your hands dirty to win?
IT’s a challenging concept when you are breaking into this business, you are taught to follow the rules, be a good sport and show respect to everyone and anyone so that you can try and look better. It’s a cute little ruse that most trainers try and get across because they don’t want to see you fall down a path that you may not be able to come back from.
They shield you from the truth of this business. I am here to shed some light on that truth.
The students looked a little more interested, Andrew didn’t look overjoyed but it was nice to see someone of them give him a little more attention. He smirked as he looked over at his Chicago Way Championship.
Andrew Raynes:
How many of you have often wondered if there was more you were willing to do in order to win a match? Have you ever wondered what it would feel like if you could just let yourself go and unleash a brand of punishment that was more fitting towards your enemy? What I do isn’t about just simply brandishing a weapon to win a match, it goes much deeper than that. It's about telling yourself that you are willing to do whatever it takes in order to win, that you will do whatever means necessary in order to survive. The truth is, looking across the ring at the very person you are facing, they are looking at you the same way. Having the means to use whatever it takes opens up a much bigger mentality and stairway than you might be prepared to fathom.
It allows you to truly free your sense of self.
You’re often taught to fear the use of weapons, to fear using whatever it takes because they want you to rely on your skills and your abilities in order to win, you will eventually get thrusted into a match where anything goes, everything is legal and it's when you get to that point where the game is about to absolutely change for you. From the minute you are struck with that weapon to you picking one up for the first time, you will discover something new about yourself and you’ll assume it's scary because they never prepared you for those moments.
I know I wasn't taught, I had to learn on my own.
I had made a name for myself by defying everything extreme and sacrificing my body in order to win, the only difference between then and now was that I had been doing it for people other than myself. Getting a cheer from the fans, the crowd, my peers in the back. I wanted to do whatever it took to gain favor. When I realized that it was all for nothing, when I came back, I made sure that I did everything for me. I freed my sense of self when I decided that I wasn’t going to concern myself with the well being of others, the safety of my opponent and struck out to ensure I did whatever was necessary in order to win because I knew that deep down, it was going to be done to me.
Andrew walks around, seeing the students engaged and looking for more information. It was a bizarre feeling for Andrew but it seemed like they wanted to get more information from him. He smirks as he sits on the desk.
Andrew Raynes:
It’s why I have been able to be as successful as I have been over the last 5 years. Since coming back I have been able to do more for myself than I ever had in the beginning of my career. The ability to tell yourself that you will stop at nothing to get things done is a testament to how badly you truly want things around here. It's one thing to be cute and respectful but there will come a time where everything that's good gets tossed out the window, be it a personal matter, a title defense or anything else that's relevant that alters your view of things and makes you have to truly dig down deep into who you are. You can't be afraid of the pain, the blood, the scars that will be left as a result of the match you have. Entering into the world of weapons and whatever it brings you into a place that compels you to use any means necessary in order to win, to be the one who survives because that's what you are doing out there. You cannot be afraid to hurt your opponent or be afraid that you’re going to injure them because when you hesitate, they are the ones smashing you into a table, glass, tacks or anything else that has been brought into play while having your match. You cannot be afraid to look at this in the mirror.
Andrew slowly lifts his shirt up and the students gasp in slight horror, the scars and lacerations all across Andrew chest and his back spoke volumes to the lifestyle he has accepted and the punishments that have come in the name of victory and championships through his career. He lowers his shirt back down and takes a deep breath.
Andrew Raynes:
Again, this way isn't for everyone here and thats fine, but there will come times where you dont have a choice, where you are forced to come into this world and whether you like it or not, you’re going to come face to face with that little demon inside you thats going to be brought out by your opponent and your desire to stop at nothing to beat them. You can convince yourself that you won't hurt anyone here, because you’re friends, but even friends face each other and there will always be something of value at stake. Take it from someone who let his emotions get in the way when they mattered most only to have victory snatched away from him at the last second because he hesitated.
A mistake I will never make again, because I won't let anything stand in my way en route to getting the job done. I have not been afraid to injure, cripple or give myself the advantage because I know that anyone else would do the same thing. When you accept the lifestyle, you have to accept everything that comes with it, you are unshackling your very soul and allowing yourself to be free in a way that you will never be taught otherwise. The freedom to do as you please, in a business that welcomes it, is a major eye opener when it matters the most.
It's my hope that some of you can embrace it for what it is, use it to help carve your way throughout a business that is absolutely unforgiving and wont hesitate to chew you up and spit you out if you cant handle the true heat of this business.
Thank you.
