2x13 THE REWARD
The Principal's Office
January 20th, 2022
8:16 AM
The door of Gian's office swung open and out walked Bey Addams. Cut inside where we find Gian sitting behind his desk. In front of him, on the right, Helena Noir and Lady Magdalena were sittng in silence. On the left there was an empty chair, presumably where Bey was sitting.
Helena Noir:
What a shame.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
You just lost your first pick, someone you had great hopes for. And yet you don't seem too bothered.
Gian's words confirmed what many were already suspecting. Bey Addamas had quit the Academy.
Helena Noir:
I can't help who doesn't want to help themselves, Gian. The purpose of the Academy is to learn and improve. Bey never thought she needed, she came here convinced that she was better than anyone and never accepted any advice I gave her. And surely having a whole squad of cheerleaders worshipping the ground she walked on didn't help.
Helena glanced at Lady, almost looking to find confirmation to her words in her fellow Team Leader's eyes.
Helena Noir:
I don't consider this a failure. Not mine, not ours and not even hers. The system you built here, Gian, needs the two parts to work together. If the trainers and/or the Team Leaders don't do their job, the students won't improve. If a student refuses to cooperate with the trainers, they won't make any progress. And they risk to bring the rest of the students down.
Lady breathed a sigh, glancing over at Helena, and then to Gian. The Fair Lady leaned forward slightly, speaking slowly in that irresistible Parisian accent of hers.
Lady Magdalena:
I personally feel she was a lost cause prior to even entering the Academy.
The words cut harshly, causing Gian to raise an eyebrow to the French veteran’s words.
Lady Magdalena:
She is not without talent, I do not deny that at all. But given her experience in her previous graduation elsewhere, combined with the fanbase she had developed and the supporters she had from her previous Academy, this was nothing but a failed experiment. She had an air of superiority about her, refused to practise basic drills as she felt she was above them and her public outspeaking against staff was detrimental to the development of the young talents we already have here.
The French woman paused in her words, glancing over to Noir.
Lady Magdalena:
She was trying to use our Academy to elevate her name, as opposed to elevating herself by learning and bettering herself.
Helena Noir:
I’ve been labeled a lost cause myself early in my career, but I think I did pretty good.
The Swede commented with a bitter smile.
Helena Noir:
No disrespect, Lady, but I disagree. She could have been a great addition, she could’ve been a model and an inspiration for her fellow students. I only wish I could’ve made her see this before she decided to leave. But it is what it is now, no point in dwelling.
The former Liberty champion glanced at Gian.
Helena Noir:
Let me know if you have a replacement for her, Gian. I’d like to study their profile before adding them to my team.
Without waiting for his reply, Helena stood up from the chair and left the office. If her words suggested that she was determined to move on and forget about Bey, the disappointment was clear on her face. And perhaps, this early exit could be meant to hide the fact that losing her first choice pick stung more than she would ever admit.
Gianluigi and Lady exchanged a quick glance, none of them needing to add another word.
The Lunchroom
January 21st, 2022
2:00 PM
Addison McKinley was spotted sitting alone, feet kicked up on a table scrolling through her phone without a care in the world. Rare for her to sit in any one place for an extended period of time, but judging by the empty candy wrappers, chip bags and a Coke can spread around her, she’d been chilling for a bit. Her smile brightened, from a photo or video on her Twitter feed almost assuredly. If there was any pressure from the bit of exciting news she’d received earlier that morning, she was doing a great job hiding it.
Like clockwork, another post had her laughing, only this time she sat her phone down as someone very loudly sat down across from her at her table. In a huff she sat up straight, staring across at one of The Academy trainers, Taylor Wheeler. She quickly gathered up her trash into a neat pile and smiled.
Addison McKinley:
I’d offer you a Twix bar but I ate them all.
Taylor Wheeler:
I appreciate the thought.
He said with a light chuckle, staring at the pile of wrappers the student had amassed.
Taylor Wheeler:
I thought I’d find you in the gym, getting that last minute preparation before your big match… And here you are. Not feeling any pressure?
Addison McKinley:
Pressure? About what? Going against Rainer, fighting valiantly to take the Gold Star and actually have someone holding it that doesn’t think they’re above what The Academy stands for?
She shrugged her shoulders.
Addison McKinley:
No, no pressure, because I’m going to beat him because I’m not a stuck up little twat waffle who doesn’t even want to be here.
Taylor listened to her, his lips curling into a slight smile. The kid developed confidence in her ability, and that was something the trainer appreciated.
Taylor Wheeler:
Rainer definitely talks a lot, and he says some questionable things at times… But when he’s inside that ring, he lets his skills do the talk. Forget what he says, taking the Gold Star from him won’t be easy. You’ve seen the lengths he’s willing to go to keep the title around his waist.
Addi seemed about to rebut, but Taylor cut her off.
Taylor Wheeler:
But I think you can do it, and I’m not the only one. There’s a reason why they picked you to replace Bey in this title match.
Addison McKinley:
Yeah, they picked me because I’m the fastest learning and hardest working. The only thing he has over me is a little blonde bunny kissing his ass, and I’ll smack her in the mouth too if she keeps her crap up.
Taylor opened his mouth to speak but it was Addi to cut him off this time.
Addison McKinley:
And when I keep him down for the three count, have my arm raised in victory, he won’t have any choice but to acknowledge that I’m better.
The former wrestler chuckled lightly, loving the fire Addison was showing.
Taylor Wheeler:
Skylar told me that the “quiet Addison” we had here in the first couple of months wasn’t going to last long… Speaking of Sky, how is she doing? I saw she took quite the beating last Tuesday…
Taylor, who managed Skylar during the beginning of her career in Underground let out a long sigh.
Taylor Wheeler:
And I saw she did something stupid two days later, checking out of the hosptal.
Addi stared vacantly for a few seconds before shaking her head, pushing her phone across the table.
Addison McKinley:
I dunno, I have like thirty missed texts and a few voicemails between her and Peyton, you can check them if you wanna.
He looked at the phone, then eyed up at Addi again. He didn't seem surprised, but the smile he had on his face faded.
Taylor Wheeler:
Maybe you should…
He spoke in a serious tone, which caused Addison to raise her eyes and look back at him.
Taylor Wheeler:
I don't pretend to know what you're going through, Addison. These kinds of things are delicate and I'm the last person anyone should take advice from, when it comes to family. But ignoring them? That's not the answer. It's not doing any good to you, it's not helping them.. Running from your problems doesn't solve them. I can tell you that from personal experience.
Addison McKinley:
Skylar told me we were a family. Well I gotta tell you, TayTay, family doesn’t have as many lies as ours did. Does. Whatever. I don’t have time for the distraction that Sky and Peyton bring. I gotta worry about me and their problems can’t factor in.
She picked her phone up again and slid it into her bag on the seat beside her.
Addison McKinley:
They made their choices and they have to navigate them without me, because the only thing I want to focus on is taking down Rainer.
Taylor stood up from the seat, walking around the table and picking Addi's bag from the seat.
Taylor Wheeler:
You're talking like a true veteran, kid.
He joked in an attempt to break the tension.
Taylor Wheeler:
Come on, let's get you ready for the Gold Star.
Addi, conveniently, picked up the last Twix bar buried under the trash with a wink. She grabbed her bag and tossed it to Tay and let him lead on out of the lunchroom.
