(OFF-CAMERA)
She didn’t want to be this bored but she was. Brittany Kane sat in her easy chair with a tablet next to her and pained look on her face. She was sore, not that was anything new for Britty. It was part of her life to wake up in the morning and feel some sort of stiffness. Today, today was a day off. A day to rest and relax, to recoup her body from the work outs, the matches and anything else that may have needed some time to recover. Her roommate Dylan Carter was gone, skipped town for a few days on a personal matter.
Britty…she didn’t know what she was what anymore. Originally led to believe one thing, did some digging and found out that Dylan wasn’t actually her sister. Regardless, Britty thought to herself, Dylan was still going to be like a sister. Perhaps more than Ella Oliver was. A frown formed on Britty’s face thinking of Ella. She wasn’t close to her anymore despite Ella’s insistence of them still being best friends.
The tablet, an iPad, lit up with a notification from Ella herself. Britty sighed with some annoyance not wanting to keep this charade anymore, but she did, pretending like she cared about Ella again. There was a reason she wanted out to Vegas and jumped on the chance with Eva even though she knew it would fail after a matter of time.
What another can of worms that was entirely. The one night she got drunk and married someone, it had to be her. Britty tilted her head back to count the paint bumps on the ceiling with her mind racing of the few months she was with Evangelina. It was fun but it wasn’t built to last. No relationship with a marriage on the first night works out for the long term. But it was a way out of where she didn’t want to be, as selfish as that made her feel.
Britty didn’t know what she was anymore. Nothing felt right to her. Not where she lived, not her own personal life, and even wrestling didn’t feel right. She was an island unto herself. Only visited upon by invading countries in the ring or a few times she had a night with someone on call. Otherwise, she was simply by herself. Like she used to be. Like it was underneath the giant fist of her grandmother.
Booey, Britty’s kitten, hopped up into her lap and began to let out the little “mews” at her for attention. Britty stopped replying to social media to give her lil’ kitten the attention she wanted. The kitten was a wonderful addition to her pets, the dogs mostly left the cat alone, as Britty scratched a sweet spot to really get Booey to grin. It took her mind off of what was bothering her for a few moments until Booey had enough and hopped down to go nap on her little cat bed.
The iPad lit up again with a few more notifications. She shook her head seeing the direct messages from Ella on screen again. She didn’t want to respond to them, rather, just block her and leave it be forever.
Instead she continued to reply hoping that someday Ella would actually get the hint instead of trying to be all friendly. Britty loathed her, what she became. Almost nothing more than your garden variety “Look at me I like girls” type of person. Britty put the tablet back on her little table and kicked back as she watched DrLupo on Twitch.
If wrestling failed, she would be a full time streamer on Twitch. She already had a good subscription and follower count and made a good amount on the side doing her sporadic streams with her schedule. It’d be a less stressful, and less painful, option at the moment. Enough to save for college in a couple of years at the very least.
But wrestling is what she had. At 10 years old, Britty knew she wanted to wrestle but expected to do so after college. She kept watching Dr Lupo play the new Blackout mode in Call of Duty as he laid down a sick sniper shot to knock down a potential enemy. A smile came on her face as she got into the game she was watching. Moment by moment until Lupo was taken down and his bid to win the game was over.
Britty slumped down after her favorite streamer has his hopes for a win dashed. The tablet lit up up with another notification. Nothing super important. Nothing at all as she clicked the screen back to darkness.
Her stomach rumbled with hunger. She shook her head as the pizza would be there soon, but right now, her stomach wanted that delicious mix of cheese, toppings and grease. It was the cheat day, the relax day, the day where Britty allowed herself to be lazy. Her arm still had a good sized bruise on it from her last match. That was hardly new for her. Another match, another bruise. Such is life.
She stood up and stretched as a loud yawn escaped. This was her life. Only 20 years old and felt like she had already peaked. That nothing could get better for her. She already failed in a major relationship, failed in more than half of her matches, failed to get a college scholarship and really failed at everything she’s tried.
The realization sets it as she glanced at her Cloud Gate Championship. She even lucked into that. Nothing about her felt right anymore. She wanted to take 2018 and make it the year that was the greatest of her life.
With a little less than two months left she realized she failed at that too. Nothing. Just a title she lucked into to show for it. Loss of friends, boyfriends, girlfriends and about everything else. Britty placed herself on the edge of her bed and looked at the floor.
Nothing felt right.
She didn’t know who she was but a failure. All she wanted was to get her father to notice her but he’s dead. The doorbell rang, the pizza was here and she couldn’t get up from the bed. The doorbell kept reminding her to get up. She got her food and went back to her easy chair. Nothing looked good anymore.
All Brittany April felt was numb. Numb to the facts that she was nothing in the grand scheme of life. She closed her eyes and drifted to sleep instead. The only time she found peace.
