2x02 THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

Academy Hall

In the halls of the Academy we see a happy go lucky Erika Eldon nearly skipping through the halls. Not having done amazing in week one but looking to rebound in week two, as she turns the corner only to bump right into Gabriel Landry. The two not having really had much conversation and the awkwardness level high given Gabriel is dating her mother.

Erika Eldon:
Um...hi.

Unsure what to really say given the two’s awkward dynamic. Gabriel offers a smile.

Gabriel Landry:
Hey. I should have looked where I was going. My fault.

Scratching her neck at his apology she shakes her head.

Erika Eldon:
You don’t expect me to like, call you dad or anything right?

Erika says this clearly, catching Gabriel off guard even more so because Erika isn’t the brightest and it’s not clear whether she is joking or not. Gabriel scratches his forehead.

Gabriel Landry:
You’ll never have to call me dad even if me and your mother get married. We’re a year apart... that would be awkward. Heh, don’t worry. Call me Gabriel or Gabe, whatever you prefer.

He said that with a charming smile hoping to put Erika at ease. Breathing a sigh of relief, as he says this.

Erika Eldon:
Ok good cause that would have been so awkward. But you did awesome last week, way to go. Good luck this week though I must admit I do sort of like Rainer. So hoping you both do well.

Hearing the name Rainer does elicit a sigh from Gabriel. No secret to anyone that Rainer has directed some vitriol his and his tag team partner’s Jaspers way. Gabriel shrugs his shoulders.

Gabriel Landry:
I don’t mean to pry but... how close are you and Rainer?

Erika Eldon:
Oh not like that close...yet. But I am hoping to get to know him better. He is really sweet.

Erika says this perhaps being one of the few in the Academy to think this about Rainer. Gabriel folds his arms into his chest. He tilts his head to the side.

Gabriel Landry:
All I am going to say about the guy is what I’ve seen. Make your own decisions. Take this into account, the guy has been a jerk to a lot of us, including your mother. The one person he has been... I guess... sweet to, is you? Don’t find it odd the guy is antagonistic to your mother but brags about getting closer to her daughter? Doesn’t add up in my opinion. Maybe he possesses an ounce of dignity, I haven’t seen it. If he is playing you, he’s going to answer to me, got it?

Erika Eldon:
I think he is just misunderstood. Trust me I am a great judge of character. Good luck though, Gabe!

Erika says this waving as she walks off on her way, Gabriel seeming leery of Rainer and likely feeling some responsibility to watch Erika’s back as he’s dating her mother. A strange dynamic nonetheless as Gabriel heads on his way to get ready for his big main event match.

The Gym

Late in the afternoon, the gym was almost empty. With most of the students already done for the day this made it the best moment for some special training, away from prying eyes. That was the main reason Jasper King and Gabriel Landry chose this time to train together in preparation for their main event tag team match scheduled for Friday night. Apparently, the two were working on some tag team maneuvers, with Landry climbing on the Stronk Boi’s back using him as a platform to jump and connect a beautiful 450 splash on the mannequin placed in the middle of the ring.

Jasper King
WOOOOOO! That was sick, bro! If we can pull this tomorrow night against Dev or Rainer, they’re DOOMED!

Gabriel slowly gets up from landing on the mannequin. He turns to Jasper. He reaches for his stomach.

Gabriel Landry:
I agree with you, man. Hope I don’t miss the 450. It would suck to hit nothing but mat.

Gabriel smiles, not relishing the thought of crashing on the mat. The King Of Pumpkins scratches his head; that was a possibility he never even considered. That thought anyway is soon pushed away as that big, jocund smile reappears on Jasper’s face.

Jasper King:
Nah, you won’t bud… And you know why?

In a boost of enthusiasm, he pats his tag partner on the bag, using a little too much strength.

Jasper King:
Because you’re the best Fly Boy in the whole Academy!

Jasper’s enthusiasm brings a smile to Gabriel’s face.

Gabriel Landry:
Your faith in me means a lot. You’re right. We got this. There is no one I want on my side more than you.

Gabriel pats Jasper on the shoulder.

Gabriel Landry:
It’s not easy dealing with all the negativity, especially from Rainer. It's like he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed every morning. Why he is the way he is is beyond me. Thankfully there are good dudes like you around. Might have lost my mind by now.

Gabriel chuckles. Jasper rolls his eyes at the mention of Rainer Nordhagen. It’s no secret there’s no love lost between the two, and much like Landry, he had to deal with the German’s zingers since before The Academy even started.

Jasper King:
Don’t even mention him… I tried to get along, you know me.. I try to get along with everyone and I don’t want any trouble… But he’s just so… Mean all the time. With all his fat jokes...

Gabriel Landry:
I stopped trying to figure out why he’s a jerk. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s trying to use Erika to piss off Karen. Listen to me..

Gabriel’s facial expression becomes stern.

Gabriel Landry:
We need to rise above the negativity. Easier said than done, I know. There will always be jerks like that guy in life. Giving our power away means he wins. We can’t let him win. Not tomorrow. Not every time he tosses insults our way. Not ever. Deal?

Jasper glances at his friend and tag team partner, reflecting on his words.

Jasper King:
Yeah, you’re right Gabe…

The Gold Star raises his big hand and holds it in a fist toward Gabriel, who quickly does the same and bumps his fist against the much bigger one of his tag partner. That’s when this moment was spoiled by another voice coming closer to them; one that sounded like they were in a conversation, only for it to turn out they were having a conversation with their camera…

Sounds like we might not be alone for our workout tonight lovelies. I wonder who we’re about to meet?

From around the corner comes Shaina Sheridan, the video blogger who claims aspirations of becoming a professional wrestler. She hasn’t been spotted without her camera since arriving at the Academy, always addressing her “lovelies” with daily updates on her journey into the world of wrestling. Upon spotting the two boys in the gym together however, she suddenly recoils, stopping herself dead in her tracks and dodging back around the corner. Luckily she wasn’t spotted, but this gave her a great opportunity to spectate.

Shaina:
Whoa… What kind of lovefest did I just walk into?

Although her remark was rather mocking, the expression she gave to her camera was enough to pass it off as a humorous quip to amuse her followers. Inside the ring, Jasper and Gabriel continue their conversation, completely unaware of Shaina’s presence, let alone of the fact that she’s filming them. The young social media star, in the meantime, went to hide behind one of the machines in the gym, a position that gives her a good angle on the ring while keeping herself away from the duo’s sight.

All of a sudden Jasper just picks up his partner in a gorilla press position. Gabriel instinctively tries to get away, until Jasper speaks and reassures him.

Jasper King:
I just had this idea… What if I just throw you and you hit… I don’t know, like an elbow drop or something?

After listening to the idea that Jasper proposed, a light bulb just went off in his head.

Gabriel Landry:
Or you could release me and I’ll land on them, from this height the splash will be more impactful.

Still oblivious to the intruder hiding behind one of the machines, they failed to notice her continuing to tease them behind their backs for the amusement of her viewers.

Shaina:
OMG it looks like the fat boy is about to throw the little guy out the window or something! Wait...isn’t he the one dating that one old woman? Karen or something? The fat one is probably jealous. Hashtag Drama Alert!

Jasper is pondering his friend’s suggestion, all while holding him in the air effortlessly.

Jasper King:
Sure, let’s try it. Maybe I can give just a little push…

He walks next to the mannequin and let his partner fall on the target with a picture perfect splash!

Jasper King:
WHOA! You were right!

Stretching his hand toward Gabriel, he helps him up to his feet.

Jasper King:
What do you think? Also, are you ok? That doesn’t hurt, does it?

Gabriel shakes his head.

Gabriel Landry:
As long as I have something or somebody to land on, it doesn’t hurt per say. I do want to limit the amount of times per match I attempt moves like that. The mannequin has been kind to me today. All good. No real pain.

A smile does form on Gabriel’s face.

Gabriel Landry:
I can’t deny the adrenaline rush, though. Know what would be incredible. Maybe one day you can climb up to the top. No 450’s or anything, unless you’re up to it. Eventually you’re gonna have to defend the Gold Star. The other students are going to throw everything at you to beat you for it. Coming off the top rope with a huge splash would send a message to everyone here that you’re not going to relinquish the Gold Star anytime soon.

Jasper King:
Ohhhh… You mean like Tank Steiner’s moonsault? That’d be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

The Gold Star glances at the corner, and his expression immediately changes.

Jasper King:
I don’t know if I can do that… I never told anyone but I’m kinda scared of heights… I fell off a ladder once, back at our farm… I landed on a mound of hay and it kinda cushioned the fall, but my back and butt hurt for like a week.

There was a faint snicker in the background, but the two lads didn’t react to it. Gabriel has an expression of empathy for his friend.

Gabriel Landry:
Don’t do anything you’re uncomfortable with. Plenty of time to overcome that fear. In the meantime, you smash them, I’ll splash them. More than enough for a formula for success.

Back in the background, Shaina is still snooping in on what is supposed to be a private training session between tag team partner, quietly keeping her followers up to date.

Shaina:
So the big one is afraid of heights? Wow that’s lame. Good thing nobody can lift him up. I mean he looks like he weighs about 500 tonnes. The skinny one sure likes getting thrown around a lot though. I wonder if that’s his...you know what? Looks like the kind of guy who likes getting stepped on. Might explain that relationship he’s in. Hope her daughter doesn’t find out...

Still unaware of what’s happening not too far from them, Jasper and Gabe continue undisturbed.

Jasper King:
Smash and Splash… I like how that sounds!

The big guy smiles, sitting down on the canvas visibly proved by the intense training session.

Jasper King:
It could be our tag team name… I would like to team with you, just think about it… A Strong Boy and a Fly Boy just doing strong boy and fly boy things.. A perfect mix of power and agility, we could be unstobb.. Unsot… UNSTOPPABLE!

Gabriel sits down on the canvas in front of Jasper. He forms one of his hands to form the Wolfpac hand gesture.

Gabriel Landry:
Smash and Splash it is, man.

Gabriel looks at his hand.

Gabriel Landry:
Might need our own unique sign... for now this works. I’m all in, man. To us, the future tag team champions of the world.

Jasper mimics his friend, his stubby fingers forming the infamous Wolfpac sign.

Jasper King:
To us.

As the two guys share hand gestures, Shaina is still snooping around, whispering into her camera after watching everything that just happened.

Shaina:
Like wow. Talk about cringe. I feel dirty after all that. Is there even an award for team-ups here? Oh well...think I’ll head back to my room. So much for a quick workout after seeing those two sweating all over the place. Eww…

She tried to creep away from the scene as carefully as she could, making sure not to attract any attention. She almost tripped over herself, even dropping the camera, on her way out, but when the tag team partners turned to see what the noise was, there was nobody to be seen. Shaina had just fled from the scene.

Shaina:
Phew! That was close! I am so glad to get outta that sausage party! If those two think they have a chance here together, I think they’re in for a reality check...

Team Title Match
Trios Match
Team Noir (Bey Addams & Bebe LeBeau & Shaina Sheridan) VS Team Strike (Erika Eldon & Addison McKinley & Emma Wakefield)

The Team Title was on the line in a match featuring six of the seven young ladies of The Academy. The highest expectations were, of course, on Bey Addams who outlasted everyone else booked in this match in last week's battle royale, getting involved in that unlucky last elimination that crowned Jasper as the first Gold Star of the year.
Bey decided that she would start, Shaina seemed happy with it while Bebe tried to make her case, but was ignored by her two partners. Team Strike seemed to have reached an agreement that would see Erika starting but when it looked cler that Addams was the chosen one for Team Noir, Addison changed her mind and went to face the talented opponent.
Addison poured her heart in this from the very first moment. She seemed to have something to prove to her opponent, and perhaps Bey's words after they were put on the same team by accident were the reason for it. But her attacks were quite sloppy, lacking the precision to be really effective. And in the end, Bey took her down with a nicely executed German Suplex after ducking a wild punch.
Bey's Wristlock's Academy gave the baby sister of Tapp Addams a huge advantage on her fellow students, and it showed tonight. She put on a real clinic, finding a counter to every counter McKinley tried in order to escape her chain of holds.
Not only great mat wrestling skills, Bey showed a certain proficiency with throws as well, connecting three consecutive suplexes before making a cover on Addison, who kicked out in two.
The youngest member of the class got her opening with an enziguri kick that caught Addams on the side of the head, stunning her long enough for Addi to reach her corner and make the tag to Emma.
Wakefield took advantage of the momentary disorientation to hit Bey with a flurry of elbows and knee strikes, eventually knocking her down with a bicycle knee strike.
After the good start, she found herself in the same spot Addison was. On the floor, trapped in a side headlock from which she eventually escaped, only to end up in a front facelock. And so on, into a shouler lock, a wristlock and finally a waistlock. From that position Bey suplexed Emma and obtained another near fall.
On the outside Bebe was almost begging to be involved but Addams ignored her and, after dropping Erika down with a neckbreaker, she made the tag to Shaina.
The self proclaimed "Top Tier" entered the ring all guns ablazing, showing Eldon into the corner with a good kicking combinations. When she went to charge her though, she ran right into Eldon's raised boot. Erika saw the stunned opponent and without thinking twice climbed on the middle rope and pinned her with a crossbody. It was Bebe who made the save.
Erika made the tag and Addison was back inside the ring, charging at Sheridan with a surprising aggresiveness. For over a minute she unleashed her fury on the blogger, planting her on her head with a well executed evenflow ddt. Shaina quickly rolled away and reached for that hand stretched out to her, making the tag to Bebe.
The young LeBeau entered the ring, ready to take the fight to Addison. She was really pumped, staring at her opponent across the ring. The Bebe charged and... Tag? Bey Addams took the tag before LeBeau could actually do anything, telling her in a not very nice way to stay out. "I got this". She said confidently.
Bey and Addison were, training wise, the most advanced in the respective teams. They truly set the bar for this match, their exchange certainly pleased and impressed the respective trainers.
Perhaps it was the fatigue, after all she's been in the ring for longer than anyone else, but Bey seemed in great difficulty against Addi. Her springboard enziguri knocked down Addams, and once again Bebe was the fastest of the bunch to enter the ring and make the save.
Addison made the tag to Erika who showed off his athleticism and scored another near fall with a sunset flip.
It was now Emma's turn to take on an exhausted Bey. Tonight we learned that Wakefield possess a mean superkick, from which Addams was barely able to kick out.
Even in a situation like this, Bey managed to reach her corner after catching Emma with a codebreaker. Bebe took the tag and finally got her chance to shine.
The young LeBeau was chaos personified. Almost on a frenzy, she knocked Wakefield down with an axe kick then focused her offense on Addison and Erika outside, knocking Mckinley down with a bicycle kick and Eldon with a discus elbow.
Emma managed to make the tag to Addi, but not even the talented former actress could get the best of the wild Bebe. Shades of her sister in that legdrop bulldog that almost got her team the win.
Now that the tides had turned Shaina seemed eager to get back in the ring. Was she trying to steal Bebe's lightning and take credit for the win? She screamed at Bebe to make the tag, right when LeBeau was waiting for Addi to get up to finish her with a superkick. Bebe turned toward her partner and... Flipped the bird? Shaina looked shocked, but Bebe was determined to take the win for her team. She went for the superkick but Addison ducked it and rolled her into a pin, keeping her down for the three count and giving Team Strike the win and the title.

Tag Team Match
Jasper King & Gabriel Landry VS Rainer Nordhagen & Devin Levandrier

King and Landry, or Smash & Splash as they branded themselves, showed great sinergy and chemistry from the early moments, quickly isolating Devin in their half of the ring.
King's unmatched strength was allowing him to dispose of Devin as he pleased, wearing him down with those stone-like fists and slamming him into the canvas with a violent bodyslam. The StronkBoi made the tag to Landry who entered the ring in style with a springboard legdrop that earned him the first near fall of the match.
Gabe was a more affordable challenge to Devin, mostly because the two were pretty much the same size, with Levandrier having the slight height advantage. When Landry attempted a springboard crossbody, he got knocked down by a standing dropkick from the canadian.
What a beautiful display from these young men. Fast paced, back and forth action where both showed off their strength. Speed and agility for Landry, technical prowess and determination for the young scion of the Levandrier family.
Devin connected a beautiful butterfly suplex, then offered the tag to Rainer who leaped over the top rope and entered the ring.
Nordhagen's skill was unquestionable, but his attitude? That surely could be considered reprehensible. Trash talk, blatant disrespect and continuously taunting Jasper who was standing on the apron were par for the course for Rainer.
On top of that, in his arsenal he had moves like the brainbuster that forced Jasper to a desperate, last minute save.
Gabriel never gave up, eventually finding an opening to double the German over with a kick to the stomach and drop him with a running swinging neckbreaker.
King asked for the tag but Gabriel had something to prove. And he did, planting Nordhagen on his head with a head-spinning tilt-a-whirl ddt. Luckily for him, Devin was right there to make the save.
Finally the tag was made, a double one actually. Jasper and Devin were back inside the ring and just like the start of this match, Jasper quickly got the upper hand thanks to a massive spinebuster.
A chin breaker gave Devin the opening he needed to try to turn things around. Levandrier remembered one of the oldest teaching in the business, something he probably hears time and time again from his family members. If they're big, go for the legs. And by doing so, he managed to chop down the big guy, putting him in a painful leg submission.
Jasper reached the ropes and forced the opponent to release the hold. He picked himself up, saw Devin making the tag to Rainer and the German charging at full speed. One, single well timed open hand chop caught Nordhagen in mid-air and swatted him on the mat, leaving a red handprint on his chest.
Smash & Splash had the chance to show one of the moves they worked on during the week, the gorilla press drop into a splash. Devin entered the ring, Jasper stopped him and yet, somehow, Rainer was able to raise his shoulder in time.
Gabe made once again the tag to Jasper. King and Nordhagen went to trade blows with Rainer surprisingly getting the best thanks to his speed that allowed him to dodge those terrific strikes and counter with rapid fire kicks. He missed with the roundhouse though, and Jasper caught him in a full nelson, lifted him in the air and slammed him into the canvas.
Nordhagen scored a near fall with a bicycle knee strike, but eventually he found himself lifted in the air in powerbomb position, his fate looking to be sealed already. He called for help from his partner who, reluctantly, entered the ring. You could tell that Devin was torn between helping his friend and the reluctancy to break the rules he always stood up for. His doubt was solved by Gabriel, entering the ring as well and charging him with a spear. The impact sent both men out of the ring, a nasty fall that persuaded the referee into checking if they were ok. In the exact moment he turned his head, Rainer raked Jasper's eyes causing the King Of Pumpkins to drop him. Landing on his feet, Nordhagen quickly kicked King between the legs and dropped him on his head with a pedigree. He called the referee, made the cover and picked up a big win over the Gold Star.
