(OFF-CAMERA)
The sun was nowhere to be seen on this day. Rather, the clouds were covering the skies as people had a glum look on their faces. Of course it was Monday and it was back to the rat races for most normal people. Naturally, Christopher Kane has a smile on his having anything but a normal life. The globe trotter glances to his left, tilting his head back just a bit, to spy on a female backside. He didn’t like sneaking looks in public but today, oh boy, today that booty was popping out of a pair of leggings.
Christopher: You know, if your butt was any bigger, you’d rip those pants while you’re wearing my hoodie.
A brief moment of silence ensues, before Melissa Reeves turns back to her boyfriend.
Melissa: You say things like that and they sound like a complaint...but I know better, Mr Kane.
She giggles and walks ahead, facing toward him for a few seconds.
Melissa: And I told you, this hoodie is just very comfortable.
He sighs seeing her in his favorite Boston Red Sox hoodie. At least, he thought, she didn’t steal my cap too. He puts it backwards and shakes his head.
Christopher: Of course it’s comfortable. When do I get to wear your leggings around? I mean fair is fair, I think.
Now Christopher grins.
Christopher: I think they’d highlight my butt too.
She shakes her head.
Melissa: No chance. You’re too tall. You stretch these leggings out and I’ll... I dunno, but it’ll be very mean, whatever I do!
Reeves turns away again, trying to hide her own giggle, and wiggles her butt a bit.
Melissa: At least now I know why you’re walking so. Damn. Slowly.
Christopher wipes his mouth off after that wiggle and brings out his phone to take a photo. He has the snap set to silent so Melissa cannot hear him do the thing.
Christopher: Oh it’s like you weren’t looking at me the other day when I had those tight pants on, don’t even lie to yourself, Reeves.
He keeps grinning.
Christopher: You’re just as big if not a bigger pervert than I am.
Suddenly she stops and grabs his phone from his hands. She looks up at him with a knowing smirk.
Melissa: I’m not the one taking pictures though, am I?
With a shake of her head, she hands the phone back - not deleting the picture.
Melissa: Anyway. Where are we going, again?
Christopher: I needed a new background for my phone, sue me.
Kane puts it back in his pocket and holds his hand out for hers.
Christopher: Well, figure we could get Britt and take her to lunch again. I think we really brought up her spirits yesterday with lunch so why not do it again?
He tries to act like he doesn’t care about his siblings, even the half ones, but he does. He does all too much.
Christopher: Plus she thinks of you like a best friend and has no one else here so yeah?
Mel sighs.
Melissa: I feel so bad for her. I guess we’ve been through breakups and stuff too, but still...she seemed really happy just a short time ago? Like she finally knew who she was, and now this. It must be a big blow to her. I know she’s strong, but that will take the wind out of anyone’s sails.
Her face scrunches a little as her obvious sadness shows through.
Melissa: So I figure if we can cheer her up, even temporarily? Well, I mean...it’s worth it, right? She deserves that. She’s a good person and, sadly, there aren’t enough of those around.
Christopher: She’s probably one of the kindest people I know in wrestling. And a damn fine sister, but don’t you dare tell her I said that. Lemme text her to let her know where to meet us.
He yanks out his phone again and begins to text away while waking.
Christopher: I know she loves hamburgers so maybe find a good hamburger place?
Melissa: Hmm.
She nods.
Melissa: I know just the place. My friend kept telling me to go there. I’ll find the address.
She momentarily looks at her own phone.
Melissa: Oh, hah, Rori sent me pic again. I think...it’s…
Her eyebrow raises a little.
Melissa: A wolf? She’s funny.
Giggling, she swipes the picture away and begins her search for that address.
Melissa: But I’m looking forward to tagging with her later. We’ve only ever teamed as a trio before, it’ll be different doing things this way. Feels like a step forward in my career though…
She sighs.
Melissa: It’s nice to feel like I’ve got some forward momentum again. I think it makes me feel even more bad for Britty, actually. Like...I have my personal life together, my professional life is going the right way, and then she’s out here with her marriage over like that.
He nods his head.
Christopher: Marriage just doesn’t seem to work out with my family. Mine failed. Britty’s failed, though I mean she got drunk and married someone on the first date so I doubt it was bound to last, dad’s 50000 failed, mom’s failed, Uncle Spike’s, Freya’s… just doesn’t work out for us for some reason.
He can only shrug now.
Christopher: You’ve been tearing it up lately though, Mel. Been super fun to see my lil’ bad ass going out there and doing bad ass things. You and Kace had a great match a couple of weeks ago. I failed at my chance to be the guy at Heroes and Cons. Been weighing on me too. Might not get another shot given how Chuck feels about me.
He goes to keep on speaking but the panting of someone cuts him off.
Britty: HEY!!!!
Christopher groans thinking she couldn’t catch up to them this quickly but she did. Britty gives Mel a hug.
Britty: Ran as fast I could from the hotel. Nearly ran some old lady over.
Mel is forced back a step as Britty crashes into her.
Melissa: Hey stranger. You seem happier today?
She looks back at Chris.
Melissa: Chris, you’ll get your opportunity. I know that you and Chuck don’t get along but he’s not an idiot.
He nods his head and goes to speak but the bratty sister cuts him off.
Britty: Mr. Matthews is a good and fair man, but Chris like to stir the pot and make himself the victim like a big ole goober.
Christopher sighs and shakes his head walking into the burger joint. Britty notices that Mel has a Red Sox hoodie on and gives her a thumbs down.
Britty: I am happier today cuz it’s a new day and life can only get better from here. Although you are wearing that super ugly Red Sox hoodie when you should be supporting the Yankees, the true gods of baseball. Not a buncha sorry jerks from Boston. Like… what kind of loser is from Boston.
She giggles and points to her older half brother.
Britty: I hope the two of you have been good today and not a bunch of naughty naughties!
Mel looks down at the hoodie and shrugs.
Melissa: I don’t know anything about baseball. Really I should be wearing an Eels jersey, but those are very hard to find in the US. Well...plus they suck.
She giggles and looks to Britty.
Melissa: And we’re always good. On match day.
Britty: Gonna make sure you have a match every day of the week!
She giggles and hugs Mel again and whispers something into her before laughing out loud. Christopher sighs and finds a booth to sit in. Britty sits across from him.
Christopher: Why do you constantly do this to me, Britt?
Britty: Cuz Dylan isn’t here to do it. Or Lacey, Lilly, Sarah, Kaylee, Morgan or Emmy.
Melissa laughs as she settles into her seat. Beneath the table, she holds Chris’ hand.
Melissa: Point being one of you has to do it? Didn’t I see Dylan is traveling in later, anyway?
Britty: She is! We’re gonna have fun later tonight after the show, I think.
Britty smiles looking at the menu. Christopher kisses Mel on the cheek while Britty is distracted and looks the menu himself.
Christopher: Oh, wow, lot of burgers here huh?
Britty: And they’re all so good sounding. Like this one with pepperoni and pizza sauce!
Christopher: How don’t you weight 300 pounds?
Mel looks at the menu herself, and wonders the same.
Melissa: Must be all that talking she does.
She peers over the menu, smirking at Britty.
Melissa: Or the hard work in the gym, of course.
Britty: Little of column A, little of column B.
She sighs.
Britty: Eva used to make really good food too. Like, oh my gosh her tacos were so good. Best taco I’ve ever had really.
Christopher starts to snicker but tries to calm himself as Britty goes on.
Britty: Like it was just really meat and tasty. I could’ve eat her tacos all the time, but now I gotta make my own.
She sniffles and looks down at the menu.
Mel looks at Chris, then back to Britty.
Melissa: Well...tacos aren’t so hard, right? Plus there are online recipes you can use to get ideas.
She nods and smiles.
Melissa: Or I can get you a cookbook maybe.
Britty: But it’s not the same as how she’d make them…
More sniffles as a couple of tears fall. Britty grabs a napkin and dabs at her eyes.
Britty: Nothing will be as good as her tacos, Melly.
Christopher sighs and looks at his sister.
Christopher: Look, Britt, you’ll find someone else with a great taco or a great wiener and you’ll be happy. You cannot just focus on what you’ve lost but rather what you could gain. Hell, at least Evangelina isn’t putting you on blast like she did me when we weren’t even dating.
Britty: Yeah… I guess… It was weird wasn’t it? Me going out with someone you used to be naughty buddies with…
The loudest nose blow ever follows. Melissa sinks into her seat a little, clearly feeling a bit awkward.
Melissa: Chris is right...even if he articulates his points oddly. You’ll find someone new, someone better. Obviously this just wasn’t meant to be and we’ve all been there. But I know you’re a great person, a great chick. You’ll find someone just as great, I just know it.
Christopher: If Avery and I hadn’t of split and I didn’t wander in the desert like a man thirsty for water, I never would’ve found my perfect oasis in Melissa.
Britty’s face lights up hearing her brother talk so sweetly about someone.
Christopher: Like, despite waiting for Addy, it never felt right. The moment I went on my first date with Melissa, I knew something felt right about her. So what I had a few missteps, but I’ve just never had so much in common with someone like I do Mel. We can watch the same shows for hours, jam on our guitars, work out with each other or even read.
He gives her a kiss.
Melissa: Exactly…
Mel smiles to him.
Melissa: That was really sweet. I almost take back what I said about your articulation. Almost.
She nudges him with her elbow and giggles.
Melissa: But he’s right, Britty. That can and will happen for you too and when it does? You’ll just know it’s the right fit.
She tries to smile but cannot find it in her.
Britty: But some days I really like looking at girls and other days I like looking at boys. Like I’ve been talking to this really nice guy, don’t think he’s boyfriend material, but it’s gotten me thinking that I’m not really all that gay either. I’m bi…
She sighs.
Britty: And after I made such a big production out of it too… I’m just… I dunno. I kinda just want to focus on me and not worry about having a boyfriend or girlfriend, is that weird?
Mel shakes her head.
Melissa: Of course not. You have to be the best you that you can be, Britty. Relationships are great but they don’t replace that. You’ve just had your breakup, you’re smart enough to know this isn’t the time to get attached to someone else. But I think that if you give it a bit of time, the right person will show themselves.
Christopher nods his head in agreement. Britty exhales and wipes her eyes again before looking at the menu, not wanting her sadness to damper their lunch today.
Britty: Oh hey! This burger has fried cheese curds on it. I know what I’m gonna get!
The trio soon begins to enjoy their burgers, laughs and each other’s company.
