1x28 HAEC ORNAMENTA MEA II
The Principal's Office
May 3, 2021
9:08 AM
We cut inside the Principal’s Office, but Gian was nowhere to be seen. Instead we find Faizah Marshall sitting in front of the Italian manager’s empty desk. The Original BAE is checking on the phone, slightly impatient as she scrolled up and down with her finger through the timeline of her social media.
The door suddenly opens and in comes the former Millennium General Manager.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
I apologize for being late, Faizah.
Gianluigi says as he walks behind his desk to the opposite side of the room. Removing a painting from the wall, he enters the code on the dial pad to open the safe. Inside is laying the Gold Star title, the one Faizah left in the ring at the end of episode 27.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
I assume you’re here for this.
He rests the title on the desk, in front of the last person to hold it. He then sits back into his chair, locking his eyes on Marshall. She shifts her attention from Gian to the Gold Star Championship.
Faizah Marshall:
No worries. Your a busy guy. I mainly stopped by to explain why I laid the belt down.
Faizah takes a deep breath as she collects her thoughts.
Faizah Marshall:
There is nothing I love more than representing the Academy as the Gold Star Champion. Everyone can question my actions as of late. I stand by all of them. What I can’t accept is how I won that. Every time I look at the title all I can think about is Trinity ruining my moment. I didn’t need her help to beat Faith. I would have preferred to lose on my own merit. How can I be the best at everything when Trinity went rogue, not caring at all how her actions would affect me.
Faizah runs her fingers through her hair. She looks at Gian.
Faizah Marshall:
I’m not the best. I don’t deserve to be champion. Not because of Trinity. I don’t want her holding that over me so... there. JJ can beat Faith for it. I don’t care.
Gian remains silent for a few long moments, his eyes never leaving the young woman sitting in front of him.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
You’re surrendering your title, do I understand correctly?
It’s a rhetorical question, of course. A way to break the silence while pondering his next words.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
I’m surprised and… conflicted. Part of me is happy to see that you don’t settle, that despite your ambition to be the best you’re not willing to take shortcuts, even if in this case someone else took it for you. But on the other side…
The Principal rests his hand on the coveted title.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
This is what every one of your fellow students has been fighting for since day one. For some of them, this has been a dream for the whole year. Despite their best efforts, some of them didn’t even come close to get a chance at this. And I feel like leaving this in the ring like it meant nothing, no matter how noble your intentions may be, is highly disrespectful to all of them, and to those who held it before you.
Faizah nods, soaking in everything Gian had to say. Feeling enough time has passed, Faizah takes a deep breath prior to saying.
Faizah Marshall:
I wasn't trying to disrespect Millie.
She paused to ensure Gian knew Millie is the only student in the Academy she cares about.
Faizah Marshall:
We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Trinity. She disrespected The Academy months ago. The shadow she cast. I'm finally making things right, unlike her. She hasn't been apologetic about any of this.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
I can’t say I’m pleased with Trinity’s actions, but I can safely say the same with a number of things that happened throughout all this year, from most of the students.
Gian replies calmly.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
But I’m not sure I’m following you. You feel that the way you won the Gold Star was tainted, that the blemish of someone else’s actions will forever stain your record.. And your way to make things right is to give up the title? I would’ve fought that you’d rather wanted to prove that you are indeed the Best At Everything, as you claim. So why didn’t you use your time as champion to show everyone that you deserve to be called the Gold Star, despite the controversial circumstances that led you to win it?
Faizah looks up at the ceiling, quietly contemplating what Gian said. Her eyes travel to the Gold Star Championship, lingering on the title she won she reaches over to grab it. Holding the belt in her hands, she sighs. A half smirk forms on her face.
Faizah Marshall:
Guess you're right. Been difficult. Ever since that day a lot hasn't made sense. Might sound odd coming from me, part of me feels like I don't deserve this. I wanted to make it right. But I did beat Tiana and Faith in a triple threat, even with Olly trying to scew the outcome. Trinity telling me I would have failed without her bothered me more than I wanted to admit.
Faizah looks at Gian with renewed exuberance.
Faizah Marshall:
So if its ok with you I'm taking my title back. With God as my witness, I am going to be the last Gold Star Champion of the Class of 2021.
Faizah smiles brightly. That smile quickly fades as the principal starts to shake his head.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
I’m glad to see that you changed your mind, but if there is one lesson I tried to teach every single one of you is that all actions have consequences.
He reaches out to take the Gold Star and put it back in the safe.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Especially rushed decisions like the one you took last friday. I wish you would’ve come to talk to me before leaving the title in that ring, we could’ve worked something out. As far as I’m concerned, you officially gave the Gold Star up on the last episode and that’s not something we can walk back from.
Not quite what Faizah was expecting, especially after the conversation they just had.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
But I can give you the opportunity to win it back, this time without any shadow over it. The match for Hic Sunt Leones is confirmed, and it will be for the vacant Gold Star. You still have the chance to make history, I expect you to make the most of it.
At first a dejected expression comes over Faizah’s face. She takes a moment to process everything that transpired. She places her hand on the case that the Gold Star is being held in. Nodding she says.
Faizah Marshall:
You're coming home to me, promise.
She removes her hand from the case. She extends her hand to Gian. With a simple nod she responds to his decision.
Faizah Marshall:
Thank you.
He shakes her hand. She turns around and walks out of his office.
