1x24 SEMPER FIDELIS
The Principal's Office
April 5, 2021
11:30 AM
Inside his office, the principal Gianluigi Vaccaro was standing behind his desk, dressed to the nines in his three piece italian suit for what looked like an official statement.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Good morning students, and good evening to the fans who will see this on Friday night. I won't take too much of your time, I just wanted to provide a quick update on JJ Night's conditions. Luckily for him, he came out almost unscathed from last week's "accident". A couple of bruised ribs that are already healing, and it was just confirmed by the doctor after this morning's check up that he will be cleared to get back in the ring next week.
His expression remained unchanged, except for the slightest smile of relief creeping in as he announced the outcome of the latest exams.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
As I already anticipated on Twitter, even though Faizah took away from him the chance to compete at Dark Web III, nobody can take away the title shot he earned a few weeks ago. And I believe it's only fair that he'll get the opportunity to compete for the title and the A-Grade contract on the big stage, as he would have without that accident.
The term accident was used very loosely.
Gianluigi Vaccaro:
Thererfore I announce that JJ Night will be challenging Faizah Marshall for the Gold Star at Hic Sunt Leones in what will be, de facto, the closing act of the Academy for the class of 2021. And I expect them to close the year with a quality performance.
This is all I had to say, thank you for your time and attention.
As Gian sat back behind his desk, the camera faded to black.
The Courtyard
April 9, 2021
3:52 PM
It was a bright and beautiful spring day in Chicago, the chill wind making it a bit colder than you’d expect it to be on April 9th but the temperature wasn’t as bad, especially under the sunrays. That was where Tiffany and Trinity were chatting, sitting on a bench in the courtyard, not too far from the entrance gate.
Next to the blue haired girl was a yellow paper bag, but Thompson’s full attention was on whatever Tiff was saying to her.
Tiff:
Listen Trin, you and Millie have another important match tonight. You should be focusing on that instead…
Despite this being Tiffany Rollins’s 21st birthday, she was insistent on not taking any attention away from the students. Of course that was easier said than done when it came to Trinity Thompson, who seemed to be abuzz about the occasion all week.
Tiff:
I know what today is. And trust me, me and Asher have some plans this weekend…
Trin looked away at that last comment, and it took a moment for Tiff to realize what she just said, instantly blushing upon realizing it.
Tiff:
...I mean…you know what I mean…
Holding back a giggle, Trin nodded her head.
Tiff:
Anyway...we can worry about this after tonight. Just don’t overlook your match tonight.
Trinity Thompson:
Oh I’m not.. I know what’s at stake, we have the titles to defend, and our undefeated streak as a team..
Tiffany could see the determination in her young friend’s eyes, more so when she mentioned one of the opponents she’ll face later that night.
Trinity Thompson:
And there’s nothing I’d love more than pinning Faith. I got so close last Sunday before I let myself get caught like a dumbass… But today is your birthday, you’re turning 21 and… Well, what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t celebrate and get you a little present?
Turning back, she grabbed the yellow bag and handed it to Tiff.
Trinity Thompson:
I’ve been secretly working on this for the past two weeks… I hope you like it!
Tiff was clearly taken back by this. Taking the bag from Trinity’s hands, she opened it to see what was inside.
Tiff:
Trin…
After putting the bag aside, she pulled out its contents. It appeared to be some black material, but as Tiff unfolded it, it was revealed as a wrestling top, almost identical to what Tiff herself used to wear during her own time competing.
Tiff:
I…
Tiff was utterly speechless. The concerned look Trinity had on her face as a thousand questions and doubts raced through her mind in those seemingly eternal moments Tiff needed to unwrap the gift, disappeared the moment the former Cloud Gate champion held the top in her hands. The piece itself was finely crafted, the young girl was known to be a skilled tailor but she definitely put extra attention in the details, like the golden seams and the name "Tiff" embroidered on the back, that as well in gold.
Trinity Thompson:
You don't strike me as someone who wears fancy gear so I tried to keep it similar to what you used to wear.. With a little Trin touch here and there!
She said excitedly, looking at her own work.
Trinity Thompson:
I just wanted to thank you for everything you did for me. This seemed like a good way to express my gratitude and tell you how important you are for me… Maybe you can wear it whenever you'll make your return to the ring? That would make me super happy!
Tiff nodded her head in response, not just as approval of Trin’s craftsmanship, but as an attempt to keep her emotions in check. She struggled to find words until she finally muttered something.
Tiff:
I will. I promise you I will.
Trin opened herself up, and Tiff didn’t have to think twice as the two embraced in a heartwarming hug. After a few moments however, as she opened her eyes, Tiffany noticed someone behind her friend’s back. The look on her face quickly shifted from appreciation to shock as she relinquished her hold. Noticing this change of expression, Trin let go and turned to see what, or who, Tiff was looking at.
Of all the people that could show up at The Academy on the day of Tiffany's 21st birthday, her ex-boyfriend was the least expected. And yet, Coen Farrell was there, standing outside the gate, his skateboard under his arm. At first he didn't even notice Tiffany, too busy looking at and tapping on the screen of his phone, most likely sending a text message. But when he finally lifted his eyes and noticed the former Cloud Gate champion looking at him, he froze on the spot. It was only a few long seconds later that he managed to raise his hand and timidly wave in her direction. As he did so, he was approached from the side gate. Long brown hair, tied up off her face in a ponytail that swayed as she moved; Faith Savell accosted the waving Coen with her arms thrown around his neck. Embracing him in a hug as she planted a kiss on his lips.
It wasn't clear whether Faith noticed her or not, but there was a look of confusion on the face of the birthday girl for a moment as she saw this.
Coen Farrell:
Hey gorgeous..
Coen's attention was now fully turned on Faith, returning the hug and placing a soft kiss on her lips.
Coen Farrelll:
You look wonderful, how was your week?
He then asked, holding the former Gold Star in that embrace. He just followed her movements as she swayed them around in a sort of slow dance, and before he realized, he had his back turned on his ex. Surely that was a coincidence, right?
Faith looked over his shoulder directly at Tiffany before breaking out into a wide smile.
Faith Savell:
Hey yourself. Long, boring. Honestly I should’ve graduated already but...
She finally brought her eyes back to him, fixing her attention there whilst her hands linked at the back of his neck, drawing him closer. Certainly not for the audience only a few feet away though.
Faith Savell:
At least you’re here to rescue me for the weekend!
Coen Farrell:
Well, that's what a boyfriend does, right?
Tiffany flinched as she heard that word. Sure, the story between her and Coen ended for reasons out of their control and since that happened they hadn't really talked much.. But in the past few months, there had been a rapprochement between them.
Coen Farrell:
We can leave right after the show, get some dinner to celebrate your big win. How does that sound?
Faith smiled again, her full attention on Coen as she leaned into him. The young couple paid no mind to it, but a catchy K-Pop started playing from Trinity's backpocket. Thompson reached in to pull out her phone, only giving a quick glance at the screen before taking leave from Tiffany.
Trinity Thompson:
I really have to take this, sorry...
Tiffany nodded and waved her hand, her whole attention was on Faith and her ex-boyfriend.
Tiff:
It's ok, go.. I'm going back inside, I'll see you there soon.
She offered a smile to her friend who was now walking away as she talked on the phone, but rather than heading back in as she stated, she moved behind a wall from where she could pick up their conversation without being seen.
Faith Savell:
First, you get to see me win, Again. That’s something you haven’t done in a while, right? Be on the winning team.
Before he could say anything she waved a hand with a gesture that implied she was only joking.
Faith Savell:
And then we have the whole weekend to do whatever we want.
Coen Farrell:
I'm definitely looking forward to that.
He answered with the widest of smiles, having already forgotten about her little zinger.
Coen Farrell:
I'm so lucky to have you. You're the best thing that ever happened to me…
Around the corner, Tiff almost crumbled on the spot. To hear such a comment from her ex, especially to the young woman who has caused her so much grief and suffering over the past few months, seemed to have caused a great pain in her chest.
Faith beamed back at him, looking every bit the smitten girlfriend as she leaned up to softly kiss his cheek.
Faith Savell:
Aww, that’s so sweet of you to say! Come on, let’s go for a walk around the grounds before it’s time to leave. I wanna show you off a little.
It was clear that Coen had fallen head over heels for Faith. And who could blame him? The Star Of The Academy was not only beautiful, but successful and self-confident as well, and the young skater was certainly not the only man to fall under her spell. He took her hand in his own, and the young couple started walking around The Academy.
Coen Farrell:
Sure, I don't mind being a trophy boyfriend...
He joked, the two of them sharing a quick laugh as they continued their walk.
As the couple walked away, Tiffany, who had just listened to their conversation around the corner, finally stepped out, almost in a trance. She couldn't even fathom what just happened, but it did. Her worst nightmare. Faith Savell, the one responsible for her torment for the past few months, was now going out with her ex-boyfriend Coen. The mere thought of it left a pit in her stomach. As she stumbled more than walked around the corner for one last glimpse, she saw the couple walking away with their backs turned. Before disappearing out of camera view however, she glanced over one last time. Faith looked back once again, locking eyes with the former Cloud Gate. A smug smile writ across her face as she winked towards the rather ill looking Tiffany. Sliding her other hand up Coen’s arm to pull him closer for one more kiss.
That final visual was enough for Tiff to finally break a tear. What started off as a delightful moment with her friend turned into a moment of heartbreak. And on her birthday too. As the couple disappeared, Tiff simply stormed off in the opposite direction. That was the last we saw of Tiffany Rollins that night, but no doubt this had put a damper on her own plans with Asher this weekend...
