Singles Match
Alex Andrews VS Donovan KeaneDirect consequence of last week’s tag match, the opening contest saw Alex Andrews taking on Donovan Keane. As the bell rang, Alex charged at the man who, with his distraction, cost her that tag match, taking him down with a Thesz Press. Andrews mounted Keane and unleashed a flurry of shots for a very aggressive start. Keane was able to grab the bottom rope to interrupt the beatdown. He then used them to pick himself up, spotting Alex charging at him. A repeat of that onslaught was the last thing Donnie wanted. To avoid it, he grabbed the top rope and fell to his back, causing Andrews to spill over the top rope and on the outside. A quick glance at her position and Keane launched himself over the top rope with a slingshot plancha, taking the young woman down. After smashing her head against the steel post, he rolled her back in the ring and climbed on the apron, using once again an aerial attack to pin her with a springboard shooting star press. Andrews kicked out in two. Donovan had the opponent in a side headlock, Alex tried to fight out of it with some strikes to the abdomen, following with a mule kick and a double knee lift. Donnie was down but he quickly kipped up and rushed Andrews but she sidestepped him and sent him into the ropes. On Donnie’s return he was able to stifle her offense with a running head scissor takedown. Alex slithered backward to give herself some room to recover as Keane taunted her in an attempt to get under her skin. Lady Limitless popped up and charged at Diablo looking for a wild cross body but Donnie caught her and dropped her on his knee for a rib breaker. Rather than dropping her on the mat and trying to pin her, he hoisted her up and went for a second, lifting her a third time and hanging her upside down in the corner. Taking a short run, he hit her with a dropkick, but that wasn’t enough to keep the young woman down. Visibly frustrated, and Donnie’s continuous mind games were only aggravating this feeling, the young girl slammed her fist on the canvas before charging in. Donovan was faster and planted her on the mat with a spinebuster! He grabbed her legs and fell backwards to send her into the ring post with a catapult, but Alex landed with her feet on the middle rope. Keane was slightly surprised and went back on the attack but she jumped back and caught him with the Alex Crusher (cutter). The final moments of the match saw Andrews gradually take control. The turning point was the Elysium bicycle kick that knocked Donnie down. Luckily for him the ropes were nearby and he could rest his foot on the bottom one, saving himself in this circumstance. But at that point Alex was all over him, throwing a volley of kicks and punches to the Nightfall Rising member. Keane looked dazed at the end of that sequence and Alex rose to the occasion planting him on his head with the Queen’s End (hammerlock ddt). That only earned her a count of two, but set the course for her final assault. Donovan somehow avoided the Hella Rough (unprettier) and pushed her against the ropes. She bounced back and ducked the clothesline, connecting a dropkick to the knee that brought the young man down, perfectly positioned for her Brain Death. The scorpio rising kick to the skull flattened Keane, and she quickly hooked his leg and pick up an important win, getting back on track. WINNER: Alex Andrews BY: Pinfall (Brain Death), 9:46 |
Amy Maynard: "THAT'S NINA!"
The former intern was already back in the ring, Echo turned around and swung the chair aiming at the Chicago born's head. Nina ducked it and yelled at Mars to run. She didn't need to say it twice, Razzles rolled out of the ring but remained there in case Nina needed help. But that didn't seem to be the case, not when The Sting (Fedor Punch) hit and knocked down the former Invictus champion. Nina immediately grabbed the chair and smacked it against Echo's body a ridiculous number of time, leaving her beaten and bruised.
Nina: "Fight Lab sends its love, BITCH!"
She screamed in the Aussie's face before dropping the chair one last time right on the skull. As quickly as she came, she left the ring. Razzles instead remained there to watch her former friend as she was receiving the attention of the medic personnel. The doctor looked up at the referee and shook his head.
Echo won't be cleared to compete in her scheduled match against Omari Johnson.
The clip from last Sunday's Riot ended with a smiling Nina standing over the former Invictus champion. A very similar image to the one that opened this segment, a close-up of the former intern with a wide smile on her face as she watched the events from last week.
Nina:
You know, that felt so damn good.
Her finger was pointing at Echo, laying flat on her back after the Viper hit her with the chair.
Nina:
I've been wanting to knock that bitch out for a long time. I ain't even mad that she left the Lab, I honestly couldn't give a fuck whether she trained there or not.. But what he said to Yulia and Damian...
The Chicago born shook her head and clicked her tongue.
Nina:
That shit don't fly with me. I owe everything to that woman, she's always been standing by my side when I worked here as an intern, she stood up for me when they unlawfully fired me, she gave me the chance to channel all that anger and taught me everything I can do in that ring.
A pause as Nina finished wrapping her fists.
Nina:
And even tho you're too big a bitch to admit it, she did the same to you. Perhaps she didn't have to teach you EVERYTHING, but let's be honest... You kinda sucked when you first got here in MWE. You were just another rookie, Echo, she made you a champion. She made people care about you... Shit, she cared about you more than anyone else, and you know it. She poured her heart and soul in your career, she sacrificed more than you'll ever know to for you.. And you, ungrateful cunt, you spat on her face.
She pressed "play" on the remote, showing the last part of the clip where the paramedics escorted the Aussie backstage.
Nina:
What I did last Sunday? That pain you felt when I was smacking your empty head with a chair? That was nothing compared to the pain Yulia felt, that was nothing compared to what I'm gonna put you through. I'm not done with you, Echo. I ain't even started.

Tornado Tag Team Match
Nina & Razzles Mars VS Echo & The Eye
The impression was that Echo didn’t want to be here at all. She stood in the corner while her partner fought against Nina, barely paying attention to what was going on, inside the ring. The Eye and Nina were warming up the crowd with a fast paced contest. The Eye dodged a roundhouse kick with a spectacular backflip, followed by a dropkick that put the former intern down. She immediately rolled up to her feet, miraculously ducking The Eye’s spinning heel kick, taking him down with a leg sweep. She hit him with a fist drop and dragged him in her corner, making the tag to young brit who was welcomed by a huge pop from the fans. She repaid their enthusiasm with a great performance and her usual energy that got her a couple of near falls on The Eye, the closer to three coming after the Mars-ipan Kablam (slingshot ddt). Quite telling of how little she cared, Echo didn’t even try to make the save, simply watching as her partner kicked out in two. This attitude changed when The Eye surprised Sailor Mars with a stun gun and kicked her head off with a nasty spinning heel kick, leaving her laying on her back as he, visibly proved, reached her in the corner for the tag. The Aussie entered the ring with a devious smirk on her face, looking down at her former friend who was only now starting to get up. Then, all of a sudden, she pivoted and hit Nina with a discus punch, knocking the Chicago born off the apron. The following three or four minutes were the longest Razzles had experienced in a while. Echo was flatout punishing her with stiff strikes and excruciating submissions, all while taunting Nina, asking her to come save her friend. Only once she tried to make the cover, after a buckle bomb followed by a bicycle kick. Nina eventually rushed in and interrupted the count, and Echo, despite having asked her to do that for quite some time, didn’t look too happy with it, and made sure Nina was aware of it. The Snakebite was never one to shy away from a squabble, more so if it could buy her partner some precious time. She went on Echo’s face, the two exchanged insults and little shoves as the referee tried to separate them. It was only when Mars picked herself up that Nina agreed to leave the ring. The Eye tried to warn his partner but it was too late already to avoid Mars’ reverse rana. Echo was dropped on her head but quickly got up to her feet, stumbling into Razzles’ Everlasting Gobstopper (split-legged jawbreaker). Mars tried to reach her corner where Nina was eagerly waiting for the tag, but Echo grabbed her ankle. Nothing that a well placed enziguri couldn’t solve, finally allowing her to make the tag. The exchange between the two Chicago Fight Lab trainees was as hard as it gets. There was certainly no love lost between them, not since Echo turned her back on the gym and their mentor, Yulia Kirilenko. They also seemed to know each other very well, especially Nina who managed to stay one step ahead of the Aussie, almost predicting and dodging most of her strikes, countering with her quick attacks. After ducking a right hook, the former intern used a fireman’s carry takedown to take the opponent on the mat, following with an elbow drop to the sternum. Grabbing her by the hands, she delivered a hard double wristlock knee strike to the face and went for a cover right after, but Echo kicked out in time. A moment later the former Invictus champion caught the running Nina with a spinebuster and made the tag to The Eye. He showed off his undoubted skills, obtaining a couple of near falls after a tiger feint kick and a flipping piledriver. Out of nowhere, Nina struck him with the Viper Sting (sambo casting punch), but she was too worn out to make the cover, preferring to make the tag to her partner. The Eye thought it was a good idea to take a break and let Echo back in, but the Australian walked out on him and on Razzles, who was daring her to fight. As Echo left between the raining boos of the Missouri fans, The Eye had no choice but to pick himself up and face Razzles, who almost felt bad before hitting him with a codebreaker. Next she went on the top rope and finished the match with the Peppermint Twist, obtaining the win for her team. Nina joined her in the middle of the ring for the celebration, but both of them had their eyes and mind set on Echo, who was laughing on the stage. WINNER: Razzles Mars & Nina BY: Pinfall (Peppermint Twist), 10:34 |
Backstage in the dressing room area we find Sophie O’Brian dressed in her ring gear. She is ready for battle and that may surprise some but the truth is that she is the newest member of the Riot roster. This puts her on the same brand as her best friend, Glory Braddock. Sitting on a chair watching Sophie is Braddock herself, wearing a tight black skirt, purple blouse, and patent leather high heel pumps. The British Bombshell is certainly glad to have her friend as a full time member of the Riot roster, because Glory has ambitions; her sights are set upon the MWE World Championship, and she knows that this will be a war unlike any other they’ve dealt with since arriving in MWE and she’ll need all the help she can get.
Glory Braddock:
I’m glad you made the move to Riot, mate. This helps me tremendously, you have no idea how much I appreciate this.
Sophie O’Brian:
All you ever need to do is ask, my friend. I will do anything for you. You know this. Sun Tzu says, “Treat your men as you would your own beloved sons and they will follow you into the deepest valley.”
Braddock chuckles.
Glory Braddock:
This is true. And while ordinarily I prefer to wage war on my own, this is unique in that I know that someone should be there watching my back at all times. I’ve witnessed how deception, manipulation, and the numbers game stopped the likes of you and Henri Black, two of the toughest opponents I’ve ever faced. If I am to succeed and become MWE World Champion then at the very least I need to have people watching my back. That’s here Glorious Golden Era comes into play.
Sophie O’Brian:
At least you already fulfilled your promise to win. Your fifteenth world title before 2021 was over.
Braddock nods her head.
Glory Braddock:
This may be true but as you well know this sport was built upon the rich foundation of competition. A true competitor won’t settle and be content.
Sophie O’Brian:
I agree and that is why I am relieved you finally have decided to reach out and take what is rightfully yours. And I will be there with you every step of the way to make certain nothing stops you. As for me? Well, whether I finally knock that arrogant brat Megan off her perch to claim the Intercontinental title or if I follow in your footsteps by dismantling Pierce for the Riot title, gold of some sort will someday find its way to me. Despite what certain people may claim, I am truly the smartest individual on this roster. I also am patient. I can afford to wait and play the long game, knowing that sooner or later, my time will come and my plans will come to fruition.
Sophie smirks as she places a hand on Glory’s shoulder.
Sophie O’Brian:
But don’t worry, mate. I have your back. I will proudly go to war with you.
Glory Braddock:
Thank you, Sophie. But tonight I have your back. All of GGE has your back against Omari Johnson..
Sophie nods her head.
Sophie O’Brian:
Excellent. Then Johnson shall serve as an example of what to expect now that I have arrived on the Riot roster.
Singles Match
Sophie O'Brian VS Omari JohnsonSophie’s debut on Riot put her against one of the Bad Boyz, Omari Johnson. The two circled each other and immediately started testing one another. Sophie went to shoot in but Johnson was a little faster, sidestepping as O’Brian tried to grab his legs for a double leg takedown and sank in with a knee strike to the side. His natural speed allowed him to keep himself away from her offence while he landed a few counter blows. Sophie was not deterred and she shot in again but again Omari moved out of the way with a cartwheel. Again Sophie went for the attack, but this time she faked it, hitting Johnson with a leg scissors into a rolling kneebar as soon as he made his move. He clawed at the canvas and managed to interrupt the submission before any real damage was done, but this surely put him on notice, if he wasn’t already, on how dangerous the northern irish can be. With that in mind, Omari changed his strategy, switching to a less defensive approach and taking the fight to her head on. The result remained the same, Sophie took him down once again, this time with an arm drag into an armbar. Omari was still close to the ropes so he didn’t really have any issues getting out of this submission attempt, but you could tell by the look on his face that this was starting to get to his head. After that first study phase, things got real. Sophie evaded a roundhouse kick from Omari and then caught him in a sleeper hold. To get a tighter hold, she would jump on his back, but he quickly dropped his head and flipped the veteran on her back. Johnson then went for a springboard moonsault but O’Brian moved. He landed on his feet and took a cocky bow. Sophie made him pay for that mocking act and planted her knee on his face with her Death Of Wisdom (variation of the codebreaker), hooking the leg to obtain the first near fall. Sophie rushed him again, but Omari’s agility kept him out of trouble as he leaped up for a hurricanrana. Sophie was dropped on her head and before she could react, Omari was on top of her making the cover after performing, this time successfully, his Amazing Sault. O’Brian raised her shoulder before the two, sending a clear message to her young opponent. He’d need a lot more than this to keep her down. He tried with everything he had, strikes and spectacular aerial attacks alike, but O’Brien was always able to kick out. And her attacks in this exciting back and forth contest always gave the impression to be able to put him out for good. Twice she went incredibly close to the three, with an enziguri that saw him grabbing the bottom rope desperately and with a wicked superkick to the back of the head, from which Omari kicked out at the very last second. He tried the nth comeback of his match, with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors, but Sophie turned it into a deep Boston Crab, right in the middle of the ring. Omari had nowhere to go, and his lower back had been through a lot of punishment so far. Chances that he would tap out to this were pretty high, and perhaps that was the reason why Dré Angelo and Karib Trinidad came to his rescue. The Tattooed Demon’s boot connected with Sophie’s face, causing the instant disqualification. They weren’t done yet, looking to punish her further. And they would have if Glory Braddock and Sophie’s brother Mark rushed to the ring, followed by the MENTV champion Neil Newman. With the Glorious Golden Era rushing to the ring, the Bad Boyz thought it was smarter to just leave. WINNER: Sophie O’Brian BY: DQ, 9:50 |
Still a bit sore from his match, Donovan Keane is back in his locker room, having a conversation with his tag partner prior to his big main event match.
Donovan Keane:
Tonight's your night, bro.
He places his hand on Jay's shoulder, trying to calm his nerves.
Donovan Keane:
You seem nervous, and yeah, I get it... Main event, MENTV championship on the line... It's a big fuckin' deal. But you know what? You can do it.
Gallagher lifts his eyes from the floor and looks at his partner.
Donovan Keane:
Listen, I know how it feels. I've been in your shoes and fifteen minutes look like a blink of an eye. And believe me, they'd go even faster than you can imagine when you're in that ring. That huge clock ticking is gonna give you such anxiety... But the point is, you don't need fifteen minutes to beat Neil. All you need is three seconds.
Jay seemed confused, not really getting the point Donovan is trying to make.
Donovan Keane:
What I'm trying to say is..
Donnie's eyes spot the camera, and his expression immediately changes.
Donovan Keane:
Bebe, get the hell out of here, now!
The young cameraman shakes her head, causing the camera to shake along. Not wasting any time, and wanting some privacy to discuss tactics with his tag partner, Keane turns around to grab a nerf gun.
Bebe LeBeau:
Biiiiiish!
She screams as Donnie shots her. A second dart flies her way and at that point she opted for a strategic retreat.

Singles Match
Ale Velasco VS Leia LeBeauThe Junior Heavyweight champion was welcomed by a huge pop. Leia was definitely one of the most loved stars on Riot, coming a long way from the stuck-up showgirl that first walked the scene one year and half ago. Ale Velasco had her fair share of fans as well, people who would’ve loved nothing more than seeing her turning her luck around after some struggles in her first couple of months on Riot. Maybe a match against the Junior Heavyweight champion could be the challenge she needed to get back on track, especially with the incentive of a title match down the line should she be successful tonight. La Alcadesa went for a quick body shot but Leia’s boxing background served her here and she was able to get her arm down to block it, following with some rapid fire jabs and a straight right cross that knocked Velasco loopy. She tried to come back at her but LeBeau caught her with a kick to the left knee and then blasted her in the face with a high dropkick. Leia went for her Show kicks but the Puertorican ducked them and quickly rolled her up with a school boy. It wasn’t a pinning attempt though, more like a set up for a low dropkick to the face from the Alcadesa, lightning quick to get up to her feet and hit the champion before she could get up to her feet. Baejandra pulled Leia up to her feet but she retaliated with a knee to the midsection and then swiftly connected with an excellent neckbreaker. making the cover attempt but only obtaining a count of one. LeBeau tried to keep the pressure on by grabbing Ale’s left arm, lifting her up to a standing position but she cracked her with a forearm to the jawt that hit its mark perfectly. She then began working on Leia’s dominant leg, the one she used for most of her kick-based offence. At first with a shinbuster, then following with several stomps to the ankle. The look on Leia’s face was one of pure pain, and Alejandra attempted a submission with an ankle lock. The champion tried to resist, fighting the pain and crawling toward the nearby ropes. She stretched her arm trying to reach them, her hand remained suspended for a few seconds and it looked like she could be considering giving up to the excruciating pain, but with one last effort she reached the bottom rope and saved herself. That leg was clearly bothering Leia, taking away some of her speed and strength in her kicks. And it was giving Ale a huge target to focus her attacks on. After After a fisherman ddt, La Alcadesa climbed to the top rope and jumped on her shin with the Starlight Drop double foot stomp. The champion cried out in pain and tried to roll under the bottom rope, but Velasco grabbed her foot and dragged her back in the ring, locking her into the Carolina Cloverleaf! Could we see the champion tapping out here? Luckily for Leia she was still close to the ropes and, not without effort, managed to get to them and save herself. Things were looking bad for the Junior Heavyweight champion who slowly picked herself up, favoring that right leg. Velasco went for the killing blow with her Golden Arrow (superkick) but the Show was able to move out of the way with a shoulder roll. Quickly up to her feet, or rather to one feet, the champion stood in a Karate Kid-esque position, blasting Velasco in the face with a crane kick. The Puertorican was sent back in the corner and Leia immediately charged her and hit the Jet City Jive (running Claymore kick to the face of the cornered opponent). Performing her best move caused her a lot of pain, but she still managed to drag herself on top of the opponent and make the cover for an hard fought win. WINNER: Wrestler BY: Pinfall (Jet City Jive), 11:47 |
We come to not a shot in the arena but rather what appears to be a pretape. It’s a lonely room rather than anything exorbitant while this is being shot in black and white. Sitting down on a lone chair in this empty room is the now four time world champion Seth Iser. There is the gleam of the World Championship over his shoulder. As we have come to expect with him, the champion is dressed in a three piece suit. He has a thoughtful expression etched on his face as he’s sitting there.
Seth Iser:
We are often the architects of our own demise. Whether it is the words we spew out, the actions we often end up taking, our desires getting the best of us or the people you call as friends turn out they weren’t actually friends. And then when the empire comes crumbling down around you...oftentimes you can only wonder what went wrong when the first thing you should do is just look yourself in the mirror and that’s the first place it all started to come apart. It…always starts there.
There’s a particular bite to that last sentence as Seth’s face darkens slightly almost as if he’s reflecting on certain things that have happened in his career. Though that darkening of his face is brief, faint even but it was still noticeable enough before he continues speaking.
Seth Iser:
And Duke...after hearing the same things coming out of your mouth...I don’t think you’re learning from history brother. Didn’t learn from Neal. Didn’t learn from Devin, the man who perpetrated a coup and usurped the faction away from you that you loved so much. Hell, you aren’t even learning from me because you’re doing two things that you really shouldn’t do when you get to this level in our industry. You’re projecting and you’re lashing out. Even more so after the woman you seem so smitten with proved once again to be so air headed and excuse making that she doesn’t understand a referee’s caidence. She won the tag match and then couldn’t handle the weight of her opportunity. But...enough about that. Back to you and your...projection and lashing out.
His tone is cold and completely unsympathetic though low in tone and lacking either the hot blooded anger in his eyes or the egocentric delivery he can have at times.
Seth Iser:
You went on a concussed rant about me...went on a concussed tweeting session toward my associates and you barked up a threat about my family. Hell, you threatened to be my stalker and all that on a public form. All because you’re upset your own body gave out. The hell of it was Duke...if you weren’t beaten, I wouldn’t have done it. But the moment he dotted you between the eyes with the baton and your eyes rolled in the back of your head...you were beaten. You were clearly concussed. If Devin spiked you with a second Sunset Rider that could’ve been the last match you ever wrestled.
The veteran leans back on the steel folding chair slightly while stretching his neck out.
Seth Iser:
Maybe it scares you that the man formerly known as a Deity of Destruction intervened in that moment and actually gave you a second chance at life. Maybe you can’t accept the fact that if it wasn’t for Kelsey, Rebecca, Allison, or Christian for that matter...I wouldn’t have done you that kindness. Hell...instead of screaming about all of that...if you want to drag others into it...you should thank them. Thank them for giving you a second chance with your career.
A calmness still in Iser’s tone as he says all of this before there is this shake of the head.
Seth Iser:
Instead...you bite the hand that feeds. You lashed out because you couldn’t accept your reality. And you stupidly went to the bars with the hedonistic Al Envy. All that noise...all that potential alcohol while your head is splitting with horrendous pain. All after you were given this second chance…
There’s a disgruntled sigh from the man who was coined the Ultimate Hunter but there isn’t any predatory air to him at the moment.
Seth Iser:
You’re...intent on throwing it all away dealing with me. Pride comes before the fall my overly religious father often said. It’s played itself out time and time again. But I do come with news for you Duke. If you managed to get cleared that is...and we know how it can take a while before you’re cleared here if you have a history of being rebellious to orders.
A knowing smirk that has a hint of that predatory air creeps onto Iser’s face. It feels as if he knows the process all too well. The smirk vanishes quickly.
Seth Iser:
But since you seem fully intent on not learning from my mistakes...hell learning from your own past mistakes, I’ll indulge you on your wish...assuming you’re cleared to wrestle and you don’t have the nasty after effect of post concussion syndrome affecting you. Dark Web Three. At the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix Arizona. We will wrestle for the prestigious gold that’s around my waist.
He’s calm as he states all of this but his eyes are showcasing that same coldness that’s been consistent throughout.
Seth Iser:
Even more so than with Devin...this might be the biggest match of your life. Not career...life. Because you need to justify every overconfident boast and statement you’ve spewed out from the moment you got here. From turning on friends to making a group...to where we’re at right now. You have a chance of a lifetime here. You could win the World Title from one of the few true international stars in the game and one of the best wrestlers in the world today but in the history of our industry. It’d be a hell of a feather in your cap but...I have to ask a question.
And then the predatory air is now coming to Seth as he taps the gold that’s on standby. We transition from black and white to color to reveal the all white room here and in contrast Seth is wearing an all black suit. He’s finally standing up.
Seth Iser:
How is it going to feel that you talked all of this trash...screamed about favoritism for years no matter the location for years...but you finally get this opportunity to try to prove you’re an equal to Seth Iser...and you just realize that the best isn’t good enough?
There’s then that sneer that has evil intent coming through. Almost the same intensity as what he was presenting when he made his declaration of war toward Devin.
Seth Iser:
Take anyway you can to get to the top...I don’t blame you for that however not once but twice I saved you from Devin’s trap. The second one got me the gold as well as Devin run out of the company because he couldn’t deal with getting played by me. But with me as the adversary who is calculating everything here...with what’s on the line. I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure I walk out with my hand raised and this championship still around my waist. It’s insane to think I’d do otherwise. It’s what an all time great does. Just I wonder about one certain thing...after you realize the answer to that question I asked.
He then glares at the camera and it’s finally showcasing the fire...a taste of that infamous temper even if his tone is even keeled.
Seth Iser:
Since you’re blissfully unaware of how you’ve written your own destruction and you clearly have a history of trusting the wrong people of late...who the hell is going to save you from yourself? Because I already know what’s going to happen to you...and you only did that to yourself.
He lets that hang for a moment before he turns on his heel and leaves the room while still adorning that proud championship.
Singles Match
Eliza Foley VS Dean SmithEliza Foley looked so small compared to her opponent, but didn’t let the size difference affect her gameplan. She came out swinging right off the bat with a running yakuza kick, flooring Smith. In a jiffy she was on top of him, throwing punches at his face with such aggression that the referee considered it appropriate to interrupt the onslaught and warn the former Riot champion. Eliza went to pick up Smith but he fed her a knee to the midsection and quickly sent her against the ropes, flooring her with a back elbow. He then shoved her in the corner where he delivered some uppercuts until Eliza took both of her thumbs and pressed them into Dean’s eyes. The former Invictus champion stumbled back and Foley hit him with a roaring elbow. The impact wasn’t enough to put Smith down, but caused him to stagger a few steps back. Eliza covered the distance with a sprint and kneed him in the face, finally taking him down. Dean started to rise, and that seemed to be exactly what Eliza was waiting for. She charged once again, probably looking for a running neckbreaker but Dean picked her up and violently slammed her on the canvas. He hooked the leg and made the first pinning predicament of the match, but it was only worthy a count of two. His superior strength and the size advantage allowed Dean to control the match throughout the central part. The Hook Shot easily lifted the first ever Millennium champion in a fireman’s carry position and dropped her on his knees for a double knee gutbuster that left her writhing in pain. He followed with an abdominal stretch, adding some shots to the stomach as he kept her in the hold for almost a minute and then lifted her and drove her into the canvas with a gutwrench slam. This time his cover attempt took him a little closer to the three, but still wasn’t enough to keep Foley down. The Mysterious Girl made a comeback, landing some consecutive kicks to the sides that pushed him back against the ropes. She tried to knock him out of the ring with a clothesline but Dean pulled down the top rope and she was the one flying outside the ring. Somehow she managed to land on the apron and quickly drive her shoulder in Dean’s stomach, doubling him over and pinning him with a sunset flip. The former Invictus champion kicked out in two. As the match drew to a conclusion, Eliza’s experience became a determining factor in swinging the momentum back on her side. Slipping away from a fireman’s carry, she raked Dean’s back and rocked him with a headbutt. Hard to tell who got the worst of it, as Eliza found out Dean had quite the thick head and recovered before she could, trying to behead her with a clothesline. Foley bent backwards to dodge the impact with a movement that seemed to bring back those back issues that kept her away from the in ring competition. Smith capitalized on this, turning around and catching her with a right hook while she was still holding her lower back in pain. Next came, obviously, a backbreaker, but the former Riot champion wasn’t done yet. Dean tried to end things with his Mean Dean (diving knee strike), but while he was finding his balance on the slippery ropes, Eliza quickly launched herself against the ropes, and that was enough for Dean to fall off the top. He landed awkwardly on his shoulder, but that was the last of his problems. Eliza was right there, dragging him up to his feet to plant him on his head with the Mysterious Girl. And that’s all she wrote for Dean, who fought one hell of a match against one of the best in MWE but came up short in the end. WINNER: Eliza Foley BY: Pinfall (Mysterious Girl), 14:29 |
The scene opens backstage with Neil Newman sitting on top of a wooden stool with the Riot banner hanging in the background. The MWE MENTV Championship rests on his lap. He stoically stares into the camera.
Neil Newman:
Promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.
I am good at keeping my promises. Check my resume in MWE. I said Golden Era would become the tag team champions in a ladder match. I was right. I called my shot at Domino Effect, claiming I would secure the MWE MENTV Championship. Again, I was right. By now you should take me at my word, when I say something will happen. My word is gold. Pun intended.
Neil cracks a smirk.
Neil Newman:
I made Alex a promise that I would defend the MENTV Championship against her. Many people question the dynamic we have. Some are under the impression that I am belittling her. That I am treating Alex like a child. Somehow, my intentions with Alex can’t be trusted. And it does bug me a little that she won’t embrace my vision; but; that won’t stop me from believing in her untapped potential. A potential I want to see her show by beating me for the MENTV Championship. She’d have to earn it, obviously. I believe this championship will be in good hands with Alex.
In order for our dream match to happen I need to successfully defend the MENTV Championship tonight. That brings me to you, Jay. We are similar in a lot of ways. We are both best known for our tag team exploits in MWE. Nightfall Rising has always been one of the top teams. The Golden Era was the pinnacle of the division for months before Kyle and I decided to pass the torch. We are both overlooked due to our success as tag wrestlers. The key difference Jay between us, I am the one with ambition.
As great as Kyle and I were as a team, both of us came to the realization that we needed to push ourselves further than ever before. Kyle moved to the Millenium brand. I staked my flag on Riot. I bet on myself. Can you say the same? No. You continue to hang on to Nightfall Rising, the tag team championships are still a goal of yours. I saw your tweet, you were shocked at the opportunity you were handed. When I learned I was going to compete in the ladder match at Domino Effect I smiled. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt my journey to become a singles champion was destined. My destiny leads to me defending this against Alex.
Neil holds up the MENTV Championship so the people watching this get a good look at it.
Neil Newman:
You can’t stop destiny, Jay. Welcome to my wrestling clinic. Take notes. Class is in session.
The scene fades to black.
MENTV Championship Match
Neil Newman © VS Jay GallagherAmy Maynard: “Huge opportunity for Jay Gallagher tonight. Fifteen minutes to pin or submit Neil Newman and walk out with the MENTV championship.” Sir Figgles: “You could give this punk one hour and he wouldn’t be able to beat Newman even if he had a hand tied behind his back.” Amy Maynard: “Well, he did last week though, in that tag match.” Sir Figgles: “As you said, that was a tag match, not one on one. And he didn’t even pin Neil, it was his partner who took the fall. Not that anyone should be surprised, she was the weak link of the team all along.” Amy Maynard: “Pretty sure Newman would be the first to disagree with you here. But Alex Andrews is not his concern tonight, his focus has to be on Jay Gallagher.” The Nightfall Rising member didn’t even wait for the bell to ring to strike, looking to take an early advantage before the countdown even started, blasting Newman with a running knee strike that sent the champion through the ropes. The referee figured out Jay’s intention and ordered for the bell to ring, officially starting the contest and the fifteen minutes time limit even though Neil was outside the ring and Gallagher on the verge to fly over the top rope, taking the champion down with a tope con hilo. Since the match was now underway, Jay changed plan right away, not wasting any second on the outside and rolling Neil back inside the ring after slamming his head against the ring post. Amy Maynard: “He’s thinking about the Galla-Star Press… We’re not even one minute in and this match could already be over!” From the apron, Jay jumped on the top rope and performed a shooting star press. Newman’s instinct allowed him to raise his knees to his chest, and Gallagher had the worst out of it, clutching his ribs and rolling over in pain. Newman was relentless in kicking him on the sides so hard that it lifted him off the canvas. He then lifted him and fired him in the corner, charging in with a big spear that broke Jay in half. The champ then sat his opponent on the top rope and climbed the corner, lifting him and falling back with a superplex, floating right into a cover for a count of two. Amy Maynard: “How quickly the tides have turned. Jay came into this match with a game plan and it almost worked out. A couple of minutes later and he’s in deep trouble.” Sir Figgles: “That’s what you get when you try to cheat!” Amy Maynard: “Really? You of all people are trying to be the moral compass?” Sir Figgles: “Hey, someone has to..” Newman went for a fireman’s carry rib breaker but Jay slipped behind him and hit him with a high angle dropsault to the back. The champ caught himself on the ropes but Jay was on him. The two struggled with one another for a moment before Newman planted his feet and sent the challenger over the ropes. He landed on the apron and quickly swung with a right hand, missing the target as Newman saw it coming and easily ducked the blow, connecting with one of his own. Gallagher managed to desperately grab the top rope and keep his balance. Feeling the urge and the importance of this contest, Newman took a risk he usually wouldn’t, trying to launch himself through the ropes in order to spear Jay on the outside. He ended up catching a knee to the head that left him hanging on the middle rope. Gallagher dragged him on the apron and planted him head first on the hardest part of the ring with a ddt. The champion’s body fell out of the ring, Jay waited until he picked himself up and flew onto him with a beautiful asai moonsault. He had to take him back in the ring now, and do it quickly since the referee’s count already reached seven. He managed to do so and slide back in just in the nick of time, attempting a cover that only gave him a count of two. Amy Maynard: “We’re close to the ten minutes mark, Figgles. That means Jay only has a little over five minutes to score the decisive pinfall or submission.” Sir Figgles: “I don’t think Neil will set for a draw. I hope not, this clown doesn’t deserve another shot.” Amy Maynard: “Well, he definitely wants to take home this first defense, that goes without saying. But considering how the match is going, a draw could be an option to consider.” But Newman wasn’t going to take the easy way out. He could’ve started wasting time, taking extended periods of time outside the ring and frustrate Jay, but instead he challenged the young man head on. The two traded hard strikes in the middle of the ring, and the champion was coming out on top. Jay stomped his foot and quickly connected a headscissors takedown, throwing Newman near the corner. The challenger darted with a full head of steam toward the champion, who caught him with a swift overhead belly to belly suplex that sent the Nightfall Rising member against the turnbuckle. He didn’t hesitate, giving a quick glance to the timer and realizing that he had over three minutes to get the job done. He tried with a buckle bomb, but Jay kicked out. Then with a series of german suplexes, bridging the third into a pin but once again it wasn’t enough to beat Gallagher. The time was ticking, going for a submission with the EGV but the chance that Jay would hold on for the remaining time was too high. Since the “Evolution” version was no longer an option, Newman went for the End Game Classic instead, the vertical suplex into a double knee backbreaker. He hooked the leg, getting the three count and stopping the countdown with over one minute to go. WINNER: Neil Newman (STILL MENTV CHAMPION) BY: Pinfall (End Game Classic), 13:31 |
